Change my mind.
Rule 1 of every religion) All other religions are false, only this religion is the REAL truth. And you KNOW there are some wealthy, priests out there living lives of wealth from all the tithing their parishes do for them.
The feeling that my "good intentions" were being used to further the Church itself, feels like a pyramid scheme that's meant to control people. And I can't understand people who submit themselves to that. It's an active willingness to not think for yourself.
It's saying: "I really don't want to decide for myself, I want someone to tell me what to believe."
I just have no respect for anyone even adjacent to organized religion at this point. The moment in history where religion stopped being a boon for mankind was over 200 years ago. It really is something that shackles thought and prevents people from being truly free.
"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."
