So what's the deal here? People can't wait to read Blue Lock so the volumes don't sell as well as One Piece where it's readers want to enjoy a huge chunk rather than just chapters?

Well, and I don't know how much this factors, in most cases you get either a more or less equal experience going anime or manga, or the manga is superior because the anime cut details, has worse art, etc.

With TYBW, considering the changes made to the anime, you'd be getting a worse experience reading, and a lot of the reactions to episodes and such praised the changes made

If you are genuinely asking, the explanation can be summed up to "timing"

The Demon Slayer boom in 2019-2020 brought in a huge amount of new manga readers.
Once they caught up to KnY, they wanted to try another manga, and Shueisha noticed that and heavily focused the Jujutsu Kaisen marketing for the upcoming anime adaptation towards that new demographic.
From this point onward, you had a very noticeable phenomenon of a weirdly big amount of readers checking out the "new big thing". Each time with fewer people, since some got disinterested in the medium.
And so, we ended up with Demon Slayer -> Jujutsu Kaisen -> Tokyo Revengers -> Spy x Family.
It's extremely noticeable if you look at the numbers and the general trend of these 4 boosts in sales. They did not behave like boosts currently do, or like how they did before Demon Slayer.

So yeah, timing

Slam Dunk is not the norm, Slam Dunk movie is one of the highest grossing animated movies ever in Japan and Slam Dunk is remembered and regarded highly WAY more than Bleach.

Slam Dunk is up there with Dragon Ball and OP with being so well known in Japan.

That's interesting to know. It seems like the other three are/were much more popular in the West than Revengers (and I'm the same way) so maybe that's why I was a bit more confused than normal

Probably but I bounced hard off JJK but I do like the character designs if that counts. Mostly I just read the DJ if I like the art for the series I don't know.
