Are you kidding, Urien's always ready for summer fun.

This sucks. Vavle managed to organically position itself as a place to get certain types of content that no other major platform could get due to console manufacturers having rating regulations and no other major PC digital distribution platform existing. That all goes out the window here and Steam ends up with the same dumb regulations as consoles.

If it's legit a legal issue, then the only thing I can blame Valve for here is a lack of communication and not being prudes.
They really should have done what i was thinking it could have eventually have been a thing: have a separate Adults Only section in the store that can only be unlocked by presenting some sort of valid ID. Purchases in this store part of the store would disable the use of payment processors that are against porn.

Yeah, that would have been a fine fix.

Preview on Disco Elysium: http://www.rpgfan.com/previews/Disco_Elysium/index.html

While I waited for a kiosk at ZA/UM's very popular booth to become available, I chatted with community manager Danielle Woodford and game designer Robert Kurvitz, who both effused their affection for the timeless Black Isle RPG Planescape: Torment — a fondness I happen to share. Between the three of us, we agreed that combat was the least interesting part of the old Infinity Engine titles. Much like in tabletop, Planescape: Torment shined brightest when the player navigated its syrup-thick lore, shaping their protagonist in a way that was wholly unique to each playthrough. This, Kurvitz explained, is why each of Disco Elysium's combat encounters is an important story event decided through narrative-heavy skill checks and dice rolls, as opposed to a more traditional combat engine.

Initially, I'd taken our conversation simply as praise for Chris Avellone's knack for high quality, immersive narrative design, but once I was set up with the demo for myself, it quickly became apparent that Disco Elysium has no doubt also been inspired by Planescape: Torment's surreal brand of existential horror.

Game is going into closed beta soon.

I mean i'd just take a option anyone could check to unlock it, but that's not very realistic. A ID check for the unlock would be a decent compromise. Better than just removing games, at least.

Also not all countries are as terrible as the US to get a ID either.

I'm not American, so I wouldn't know.

I also wouldn't know what it's like or what the problems are in every other country Valve does business in.

I also don't know what type of implications there are for supporting ID issuances that exist in every other country. I also don't know what political stances could be interpreted by supporting ID issuances that may or may not exist in every other country.

I mean, if you want worms...

I have finished Super Lucky's Tale, which is on the Microsoft Store (the store which asks you to reinstall Windows in order to install a game if you ever uninstall the store application). The game is mostly aimed at kids, or people who have a bit of nostalgia from the old days of 3D platformers, although the final boss is not a piece of cake.

The game engine is nice, I like how you can zoom-in in almost situations, and the variety of gameplay (3D, 2.5D, oblique perspective, etc.). I read that it is a sequel of a VR game with the same protagonist, so this might be the reason why.

It is like a little Mario for people who do not own Nintendo hardware. The inspiration for level design in my opinion mostly comes from Crash Bandicoot though. Jumping feels nice. The little fox can dig holes and move underground. It is fun and creative. You never feel truly lost.

^^^ I have a Game Pass trial and was considering trying that one out. I feel like it's been a WHILE since I've played a platformer like this.

How long did it take to finish?

If I trust the Xbox app, 4h24 to collect 72 clovers, which is the minimum required to face the final boss, and beat the boss.

Edit: It looks like I'm super fast, or the Xbox app cannot measure time properly.

is there a possibility to check if a game was in any kind of a bundle in the hidden gems list?
I am curious if bundling affects the user rating heavily. I would think, that bundling would drive the rating down because you have users that didn't buy the game on their own.
Most niche games that are competent/good have a very good rating because the users who buy those games know what they get into and get not a lot of blind buyers who don't like the game after they tried it, bringing the score down.

Right now, there is none. If I want to check, I can click on a link to the store, and check whether a game has been bundled with the Enhanced Steam browser addon.

If there is an API, or if isthereanydeal.com allows scraping their website, I could automate the process and see the results.

That being said, the rating of a game is not directly the ratio of positive reviews, and:
  • having a slightly worse ratio of positive reviews yet with a ton more reviews could lead to a higher quality measure, because the confidence interval becomes narrower.
  • the list of hidden gems also factors in a measure of the popularity of a game, so a bundled "hidden gem" should become less "hidden" and less likely to appear near the top of this ranking.
One bundled hidden gem is Glass Masquerade.

Wok when is that HD Ascension update out?

I don't know when it will be officially available. There are still frequent updates. However, if you want to try it, you can follow the procedure here:

Horizon Chase Turbo is neat y'all, it's a game even JaseC would like: It has collectables! Granted you may end up replaying a stage to either get all collectables or be 1st place to get more points to unlock stuff but its soundtrack is nice and the races are mostly fun IMO....just make sure to never ever ever bump into other cars

Also the track that plays when you are first place is just badass...but I can't find it anywhere online :V

Steam generally doesn't do preorders.
Is that on publishers not caring, or does have something to do with store policy? Because it's strange how you can preorder almost any big title on GMG and co. but very often, on the Steam store page it just says "Release Spring 2019" (or similar) until a month or so before release.

Actually supposedly you make more money with no preorders and a launch discount.

I see. That's a fair price but I'll wait for the Steam pricing first.

That is why I said the more expensive choice =p

But I've been pre-ordering games on Steam left and right all these years.

Do you mean for certain publishers only?

It isn't a forced thing. Its more of a suggestion.

As I said they say no preorder and launch discount typically gets more money - especially for the non big games.

I don't think Valve wants to sell porn. But I totally agree that they should have a seperate section for games like HuniePop etc. But then comes the question, should Witcher and GTA be in there?

Something that just occurred to me with the Steam/anime titties issue - this pressure would most likely happen from multiple places, in the end. For example

https://www.resetera.com/threads/the-uk-will-block-online-porn-from-april-heres-what-we-know.25775/

Sex & Censorship's Barnett has been concerned that a great deal of content could be caught in the new regulation's net that shouldn't. But the law does attempt to clarify this. It refers to videos or parts of videos that are already assigned an R18 certificate, but goes on to refer to "any other material" that "would be an R18 certificate".

The law also covers works "produced solely or principally for the purposes of sexual arousal" – the inclusion of the term "principally" seems subjective, and will require the BBFC to use its judgment, possibly creating its own rulebook of what is and is not NSFW. "This is legal content, and creating barriers for adults to access that legal content is in itself damaging to freedom of speech and access to information," Paul Bernal, a lecturer at UEA Law School and author of Internet Privacy Rights: Rights to Protect Autonomy, said in 2017.

So how would Valve react to this? A short-term solution would be to remove everything porn/nudity, but I think long-term they've got to be thinking about an AO section of Steam.

Worried about this bit;

their liberal use of slurs definitely made me feel like I was back in high school, though personally, that's not a feeling I'm keen to recapture.

Curious what the mean and how off putting this aspect really is.
