The last Battlefront sold more than 9m copies, yet only 200k people signed that. I don't think it proves anything.

Don't know much about this stuff, but I feel like a large swarm of angry fans can't change a business deal. I don't know, maybe that's just me...

From a financial perspective I don't know what Disney would gain from that. From a consumer perspective... I would advocate for Star Wars being so iconic that it should enter the public domain once George Lucas passes away... I know it will never happen, especially with Disney owning the IP. But at this point, let society have at it if they think they can do better (99% of them will not).

What Disney should really do is work with multiple publishers to bring out the best Star Wars content, like what Marvel is doing atm with Avengers, Spider-Man etc.

You can be certain that EA didn't enter into a contract for Star Wars that would just allow Disney to snatch the license back whenever they want. EA currently has no less than three major studios (DICE, Respawn and Motive) developing individual SW games. It'd be disastrous for them if Disney could effectively kill those projects out of the blue.

It won't change any deal, but it'll definitely change moods and goals internally for the devs. Hopefully SOMEBODY takes this to heart and really pays attention.

Marvel Games is a fucking awful example of what template Disney should follow

I would rather trust EA with Marvel IP than Marvel Games being a thing.

Disney has never cared about the quality of their games IP, and the investment they put into shit beyond Kingdom Hearts is meaningless

EA is the best of a bad situation

Even ignoring the obvious fact that contracts exist, EA is working on at least 2 Star Wars games, probably 3 or 4. What would Disney even get out of this? Another 5-7 years without a game?

So what you're saying is that James Gunn is going to be rehired? Hooray!

I have yet to see EA do anything that's as destructive as what Marvel did with Gazillion regarding Marvel Heroes. With any of their developers uinder their ownership, or their Partners initiative.
Marvel Games has nothing to show of their console initiative beyond Spider-Man looking fantastic. They trust Square Enix Europe with the development of their flagship brands, the same Square EU that can barely keep up with their own products since the release of Thief, regarding development times. Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite, an undercooked product marred byy Marvel yet again not giving a fuck about fighting games and how they're made, their constant development mettling hindering the quality of their product.
Marvel seriously does not care about their video game initiative, but rather the integrity and awareness of their IP that they control. So as long as their products are advertised properly and without obstruction they couldn't care less about the actual process. This has been a thing about Marvel and how they handle themselves with the projects they're invovled in since the 90s.

WB has a better track record with entrusting developers with their products more than Marvel. (It helps that they actually have a decent publishing firm behind them.)

EA could theoretically have other developers touch Star Wars through EA Indie, but I suspect that this would never happen because of how much creative control Lucasfilm would impose.

You're probably right, but working with Sony/Insomniac and Square-Enix is a hell of a lot more interesting and promising to me than bad Battlefront games at EA. Having said that, those bad Battlefront games as well as their mobile stuff makes a ton of money for them so I don't even think anything will change.

200,000k people that didn't buy your game (or maybe did) don't like what you did for it.
Maybe sell them them. Temporary 200th share in the license for $60+

Then everybody is happy, Disney get their money and gamers don't get an EA Star Wars game they may or may not have paid $60 for.

I don't think I've ever pulled up one of these nerd petitions and there not have been a billion comma splices.

It proves how mad people are at EA and Disney,
The game has sold more than ten million copies on top of following a service model profitable enough to justify months worth of ongoing support for the title even a year after release:

That sends a far clearer message to Disney.

They can still develop these games. Just let other publishers do the same.

Yup. No reason to lock it down to 1 publisher. Wouldn't surprise me if they do this once the ea license expires to be honest. Just makes the most sense.

Lmao, two damn near vaporware games and one good decision.

They should just stop being cheap and actually fund the damn games.

And nothing will happen. 200,000 against 9 million that bought BF2 is nothing

I agree, except for Spider-man which looks stunning, Marvel Games have been a terrible supervisor and producer on their releases. They announced this initiative years ago and none of those games did well be it critically or in sales. The only space where they found something was in the mobile market but that they already had.

I know most of you are saying that online petition doesn't matter, yet more than 200.000 signatures is a great milestone. It proves how mad people are at EA and Disney, and that their license should be revoked in order to keep fans happy.

The announcement from the drunk Respawn developer during EA Play surely didn't help. What a disaster this have been.

Wait, what is that bolded part? I haven't heard about this and Google isn't really helping.

Doesn't the James Gunn petition have like 400,000 signatures and that has done nothing. Disney just hopes that'll go away, and they clearly gave EA a stern talking to considering the content EA has pumped in over the course of this year and coming soon.

You should see how many people are mad about The Last Jedi.

Also, being mad at entertainment because it is not to your liking is ridiculous and childish, much like this petition (unless, y'know there were legitimate concerns behind it instead of just people not liking the games).

even if star wars was somehow wrestled from EA's paws i doubt Disney would allow its inheritor to do much with it. some hero shooter, a mobile game, ect

There wasn't rumors/insiders about Disney not happy with EA has done, especially since backlash over Battlefront 2 ?

The games aren't bad. The first one was lacking single player content and the second came out with an awful lootbox system, but they're both graphical showcases that do the IP justice from a visual standpoint, with decent (shallow) gameplay that's still fun to a lot of people.

This is almost as useful as the fans trying to remake TLJ just give it a rest I love Star Wars for what it is at this point and I enjoyed older BF games and the new ones both of them.

Well at least when they pull the EA Star Wars games from digital stores itll just be two games lmao

Theres no question about it, they were definitely pissed. There was a state senator calling Battlefront 2 a kiddie casino on national TV. I doubt that's the image Disney wanted for what was supposed to be a pillar of their Star Wars portfolio

This petition continues to be absolutely hilarious. Disney outright makes and publishes games way more predatory but o don't see anyone making petitions to close them down.

The best way to protest is by not buying their shit which is easy to do since, well....their games are total shit.

Other than that there's not a whole lot you can do. There's millions of casuals out there who are borderline indoctrinated into buying the yearly battlefield/battlefront game no matter what. EA's marketing is extremely powerful.

Stupid petitions like this and remaking the last jedi is the reason I cant take the one to hire Gunn back seriously.
