PS1 low-precision geometry is just less instantaneously noticeable than the really low resolution, smeared textures from the N64, especially through a CRT. Quirky and weird, but not obvious (to the uninitiated).

Once you know what you're looking for, you can't unsee it, tho.

Through the magic of emulation, though, we can get PS1 games with proper precision geometry and texture mapping. Rendered internally at a higher res, some late PS1 games look like PS2 games.
