OFFICIAL LAUNCH TRAILER

Planet Coaster is the next generation of theme park simulation games. 12 years after RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, Frontier brings us the spiritual successor of that game. And its not a surprise, as Frontier was the studio that made RCT3 and its excellent expansions, and helped Chris Sawyer with the expansions of RCT2. And even with this 12 year gap, Frontier has amassed experience in the theme park game territory, working on games like Thrillville, Disneyland Kinect Adventures, Coaster Crazy and Screamride, helping shape some of Planet Coaster's development.

Getting near the 1st anniversary of the game, since release the game has been updated for free, with rides, management updates, and new mechanics, and has gotten its first paid expansion and the future couldn't be brighter.

Most importantly, Planet Coaster is a game planned to last for multiple years, just like RCT3 did. What this means is, Frontier is going to offer free updates (rides, improvements on gameplay...) and full expansions (completly new gameplay expriences like soaked! and wild! for RCT3), during its whole life.
As you can see in the Updates and DLC section, during its first year the game has been updated A TON, and it will continue to be updated.

With more than 1 million players right now, and the Spooky Update being super succesfull, content will keep coming, like...

The Anniversary Update

Planned to be released during the month of November, and started to be shown during FX2017 but not fully revealed yet, this are the things that we know are coming.
  • Staff management. Build your own staff working back-areas so staff can go and rest. Staff in the shops will even leave their shop when they energy is low, and now need to go there to be trained, and another member of staff will get inside if you have enough of them or the sotre will be closed. Also for guest AI Frontier has added preferences to certain foods.
  • A new flat ride, the Weisshorn (a classic carnival ride with a roof that covers the guests.
  • A new water ride/coaster, Cascade (a Mack Rides water coaster)
  • A new coaster, Hop the Gaps (a vintage wooden side friction coaster).
  • A second, unnanounced new coaster.
  • The much requested Picnic benches and tables. Now you can build you own working food areas an restaurants and guest that are eating will actually look for this tables to eat and relax in there. There will be different types of benches and tables, including parasols.
  • Another much requested option, change any coaster cars into any coaster tracks, with a sensible option and a override bonkers option. Whats this would do is basically adding more "new" coasters to the roster.
  • The big reveal, the Planet Coaster Scenario Editor, with a bunch of freedom option to build your own scenarios with different missions and share them with other users on the workshop. You want to make the whole RCT1 campaing? you are free to do that!
  • And more...

Is this game available for Mac?
Nope.

Where is the weather?
It was planned but difficult to implement because of the hitboxes in the complex building system that would make any PC explode. They are looking into it but not coming soon.

Why is the path system not doing what I want?
The path system takes some time to get accoustumed too, but once you get it, you will be able to make every path you want with all the improvements thay have been adding during the beta, including the olds RCT square style. Just remember to do not use angle snap when wanting to go more advanced, and use Z to make diagonals.

I want to take a screen without the UI. How?
Press "Right Ctrl+Right Shift+G" and voila!

And any recommendation to upload my screens to ResetEra or any other internet site?
I recommend using abload, will not compress your beautiful screenshots.

Wheres UGC, RCTW has it, why not Planet Coaster?
Maybe planned for the distant future, they want people to play creating new themes or whatever you want using the tools in the game. Also RCTW is crap and they included it so people finished the game for them. And who knows, maybe unofficial modding comes to the scene like with RCT3, infact theres already a user called gregroburns that has tweaked some stuff in the game opening that possibility.

It's the game Steam only?
Yes, because one of the most important aspects is the use of the steam workshop to create blueprints and share parks.

Is there a limit for the blueprints?
You can import to your game as many blueprints as you want, but theres a 4000 piece limit for blueprints when you create them (expanded from 2000), so take that into account when you want to make a building for sharing it.

Ive seen someone on youtube creating an AMAZING building, but when I try it seems difficult and takes too much time.
Remember that Rome wasn't build on a day, guys like Silvarret and me take 10 hours to create some of the most complex buildings, sometimes even more. It may look easy and fast on timelapse, but theres a lot of work to be done. Remember, be creative and have fun, thats the most important thing. Also lots of members of the community will help you making realisitc theme parks if you need help.

We invite everyone at ERA that has the game to post their creations, can be screens, videos, parks or building blueprints from the Steam Workshop.

If you want to post something you can add your steam username, and I will put it here so people can add you as friends, with your avatar and links to some of your works.

Glad to see you Ridley.
You don't have an idea who I may be, but your threads, enthusiasm are sight to behold.
I just lurk from time to time, don't participate as I don't have the game yet.

Wishing that this will thrive fully, the Planet Coaster Era.

Yeah no idea, but wow, thanks anyway, really appreciated :D

I have almost 150 hours clocked in this game. I haven't played in a few months because I grew tired of many of simulation systems in the game ruining my fun in sandbox after I beat the campaign. I'm hoping that the new scenario editor brings me back. I'm also very interested to see what their first actual expansion is. I enjoyed the changes Soaked and Wild brought to RCT3.

Thanks everyone.

Right now part of the planet coaster community and frontier themselves are working on 2 tribute parks for the user Anneke. She has leukemia and the doctors gave her a few more days only to live. She had 1800 hours on the game and we are trying to finish her egypt and fantasy parks between the people in the community.
Bo, the PR Planet Coaster at Frontier, did a special stream on Tuesday on twitch were Anneke was present to show her parks and bluprints, and James Stant, Planet Coaster's sound designer and creator of the planco language, played some music tribute to her in Planco.

Tables! They actually added tables!

Also, here's hoping that the water coaster leads to more water-based rides. I want my park to have its own Mark Twain Riverboat.

The game had a ton of crashes yesterday on bigger parks with billboards, they released a hotfix and it seems to work well again.

Tables! They actually added tables!

The tables are amazing! The water coaster... not so much. The water part of it is really crappy and doesnt let you make real rides.

Holy damn! That is even lower than Steam! Going to jump in and be confused.

So Adventure is the best DLC in the game, much better than spooky (and i was already happy with spooky)
The amount of vegetation the game has now is really impressive.
It only had 2 fault when it released, and it was that guests went outside path with the vista points (those actually come for free, and are amazing, as geusts will take photos that make them happier from points you want in the park (for example, a building, a statue, a coaster...) and the two boat rides acted only as transport and even if you used only one station, guest would not ride them as just a track ride (like the Jungle Cruise at disneyland, the boat ride in planet coaster is directly based on that).
The fixed the vista points some day later saying that the fix for the boats was probably more difficult than anticipated and until after chirstmas we would not see it.
But just yesterday, SURPRISE, the fixed the boats and now they work as track rides for the guest amusement.
Not only that but they probably fixed one of the worst crashes the game could have on big parks. So the bigger your park wa, the more chances it had for, when moving something with the multi select tool, the game crashed to desktop (sometimes wihtout even autosaving). That seems to be fixed now.

Thanks Bow.
And yes they have been updating performance with every update.

For that price is a steal. If you really like building stuff then i recommend after you get accoustumed to the game getting the spooky and the adventure dlc packs.

Havent played any custom scenarios as im more of a sandbox guy, but i think there was one that is about building a small fairground tight on money that many people say it was fun. Dont know the name though, sorry.

I already picked this up and won't have a home computer for another couple of weeks.

I have a question - is it possible to mod in new building blocks / import geometry to use as props?
I work in 3d, mostly environmental art and have a decades worth of old projects that would be great to optimise and drop in.

Been really enjoying this but have only tried Career mode. Is there a mode I should try if I want to focus more on building rides than managing my income? I like both and want to do both but so far I've felt like I've mainly been micro managing cash flow. I know there's a sandbox mode but is there any challenge to it at all?

No, theres no modding still.
but if yiy are an enviromental artist you will be able to build anythibg your imagination wants with the pieces the game has. The things ive made and other people have made with this pieces game are out if this world. You will need to think out of the box though.

Sandbox mode the only challenge is building your dream park as best as possible.
Theres free money and management is on the easy side.

  • Hotel prestige is also boosted by nearby scenery
  • Hotel perks become less effective when the hotel has not been cleaned by a janitor

Made a studios pack update overview and also a sneak preview of the project im working on:

Wow! Really impressed by your Superman queue and gift shop interiors. The glass windows look really nice here. I can't even imagine how annoying that Superman attraction sign must have been to make.

Thanks zoso.
Yeah that superman logo was really really annoying to build, not because of the games fault but because i wanted to be a perfectionist, something that i thought i coild finish in 2 days at most (but working lile 4-6 hours on it each day, turned into a full week of making the black linework with a piece not intended to do that and hard to work with. I was having zero fun making it so im glad thats finished and looks nice.

I've been playing this a lot lately and have some questions.

- Why do all my bins and benches get vandalized and how can I stop this? It seems my mechanics do not auto-fix them either so I have to go around the park myself and replace everything. In a bigger park this is a lot of work.

- Whenever my park is growing, vendors start quitting their jobs and leave behind empty shops, how can I prevent this?

- What is a good rule for how many staff you need?

Thanks!

I dont play a lot of management, prefer creative sandbox but hope this helps:

-More security guards, cameras around the park and mechanics. If your guests are happy there shouldnt be vandalized stuff aroud the park (vandals are very unhappy guests), the bigger the park is the more stealing people theres gonna be (those are not guests and do not use your services, nor vandalise), and the only way to get them out is security guards and camera systems. See if the mechanics have some sort of menu for each one where you need to tick a box to fix benches and bins.

-You need a staff room near every x number of shops (dont know the number sorry), they will go into it after feeling exahausted and get up their energy, you can get more staff without shops to change between them. Remember to give perks to the staff room that you find better, and remember also to educate your staff (by entering that staffs menu) every few months. They will ask more money the higher you educate them, so dont forget to up their salary.

-I really dont know, but probably 3 staff for every 2 stores. If you mean every member of staff, 2-3 cleaners for big areas, 1 mechanic for every 2 rides, 2 security guards for every big area, 2 entertainers every big area. Remember to have staff areas all around the park, not only shop staff uses them (and they have a max number of staff they can carry, I think you can make it higher at more expense). Also remember to create working areas for all your workers, so they will stay in that area, you make them by clicking the building around the path you want them to visit, including staff rooms.

Hope this helped, the game is pretty easy so it shouldnt be much of a problem, seems you got too many guests for the projected park you had and thats why guests are unhappy with things in your park and are vandalising stuff. Probably they dont find restaurants (or the queues of the open ones are huge), and all the queues of the attractive rides are full and they only wonder around, as you seem to have staff quitting.

Think water parks are coming as the next dlc this summer?
0.1% chance that is happening, sorry. Same with zoos.
Because of using new techniques and AI for planet coaster (like the voxel terrain and the pathing) they are having multiple constraints to work on big expansions like RCT3.
Same with new rides, as they are made with a lot more work than before so they act, sound and look like the real ones they take months to make (depending of the complexity of the coaster they told is it can take 6 months from start to comoletition).
Thats why we have great omissions like the bobsled coaster or we have 3 water rides with no big splash ride for example.

Basically I would not count on big expansions until something like PC2 is made .

Vintage Pack announced, along with some freebies:

Are you longing to revisit traditional fairgrounds or old-school theme parks? Do you enjoy a more classic look in your parks, combined with the smell of popcorn and gumballs?

Take your guests on a nostalgic journey with the brand new Vintage Pack, coming to you on July 10, 2018! The latest paid content pack is filled to the brim with Victorian touches and a timeless charm.

We're welcoming two wooden coasters to the family: the Zephyrus, a high-speed wooden coaster with a tarnished charm; and the Aces Sky, which negotiates a large wooden pipe with biplane styled cars moving sideways through it. We've also got five new rides for you to expand your parks with! Round The World, combining gentle and spinning motions of a ferris wheel; Loop Da Loop, a twin cabin inverting swinger from the 1930s; Test Flight, an inverting plane ride which the guests can control; Hurricane, twisting and turning action as a fairground staple; and Centrum, classic carnival ride which spins at high speeds at a thrilling 50 degrees!

We've got four new Vintage machines your guests can have a play with. The Gumball and Popcorn stands bring a true vintage flair to your parks, with guests being able to purchase these treats directly. The Vintage Crane machine is a new way of getting your guests trying their luck to get some lovely park merchandise, and the famous Zoltan will predict your future. You are in charge of the probability of these machines, like how likely it is to win a prize or how positive the guests' fortunes are...

Then there's a whole new set of vintage-themed scenery and wall sets, Victorian pillars, decorative trimmings and lightbox lettering, and animal statues. For the ultimate fairground flair, you can add a barbershop quartet or some highly skilled trapeze artists!

Again, all of this is part of the new Vintage Pack - but don't forget this release will be paired with the free update containing in-game branded vending machines, recolourable staff members, scenery grouping, and filters. We're also adding a free wooden coaster - the Mouse Hunt, a historic wooden mouse coaster preserved forever in the game - and a planter set with new plants to decorate your parks!

Yeah, it looks amazing and up my alley.

Some more screens were leaked yesterday but they were deleted fast.
I really cabt wait for the wild mouse wooden, the wooden bobsled and hopefully a switchback wooden panorama coaster.

Im sad this thread was buried in community from the start without a chance to be in the open first. I tried to apply to the chance of letting it for a month on the normal forums but it was aleays denied.
Its a pity because the community of it is healthy and people are surprised when things are posted like the aliens ride in the normal forums.

Looks like a nice pack, should be a big boon boo guys like citytrader and fisherman. I still haven't picked up any of the dlc yet, this being the third big one, I wonder if they'll ever bundle them together at some point. I've been getting back into Planco a little lately and some of the dlc scenery looks perfect for what I'm doing.

The only big thing I really really want from the game is a chairlift, I've built my most completed park around one and the fake one I've built isn't cutting it

Can you post some of your work here?
I would love to see what other era users are doing in the game.

And I really recommend all the dlc (BTW this is the 4th big one, we had spooky, adventure, studios and now vintage).
This seems the biggest ride number wise.

From all that jas been showed today this seems lile the best pack of all. Also the free stuff seems amazing, with a wild mouse coaster and finally piece by piece supports for the coasters.
