Hades 2 early access released boys!!!! What a day.
Oh shit. I like Sony in general, but this is not good news for the movie industry. Argh.
Especially as I could see Comcast wanting to join in on the "fun". They competed on the Fox deal before Disney closed it. There was some speculation of a potential Universal (Comcast) and Warner Bros. Discovery merger. If Sony gets Paramount, I could see this becoming more likely, as they'd be the last two major studios unmerged. Prior to the Disney/20th Century Fox deal, it was "The Big Six": Disney, Fox, Columbia (Sony), Paramount, Universal, and Warner Bros. After the Disney deal, it was now "The Big Five": Disney (now owning 20th Century Fox (renamed to 20th Century Studios)), Columbia, Paramount, Universal, and Warner Bros. If the Sony deal goes through, it would be the Big Four: Disney (with 20th Century studios), Columbia (with Paramount), Universal and Warner Bros. If the hypothetical Universal/Warner Bros deal happens, it would be down to the "The Big Three": Disney (with 20th Century studios), Columbia (with Paramount), Universal (with Warner Bros.). That would be worrisome.
If the latter happened, there could be some interesting theme park ramifications, as Universal would have access to all the Warner Bros. IP (they already work with them on the Harry Potter stuff), but Islands of Adventure in Orlando could overhaul their Marvel Comics land and convert it to DC Comics, opening up Disney to utilize the Marvel IP at any theme park east of the Mississippi River (the current deal prohibits them from doing that).
