Naughty Dog collaboration with VASG (or a new studio with Uncharted veterans) might be the best case scenario, really hope that is the path they're pursuing. Even with some hiccups they can announce the game a bit early (2-3 years out), it is a huge IP and they will be able to attract top talent to work on it.
While anything is possible I do have some doubt about ND announcing such a project 2-3 years out. It goes against what Neil said about not wanting to announce games too early as it puts pressure on the devs. And let's be honest, this is ND - that fact alone automatically draws top talent to the studio. They don't need to announce an Uncharted game just to draw even more talent, their pedigree speaks for itself.
nathan's story was definitely over. not to be argumentative but i feel that a 5th game would seem a little tasteless especially with the recent and mostly pointless tlou1 remake/tlou2 remaster
Nate had a wonderful "end" to his story with UC4. There's still plenty of directions they can take the franchise in for an Uncharted 5, as we saw with Lost Legacy. We can only speculate what directions they might be looking to take the franchise. Keeping it to Nate does make sense as he's the face of the IP for games and film. It's not mandatory though.
As for TLOU Part 1 remake and TLOU2 remaster, why in the world would you call that pointless? There're multiple ways that those projects had a point.
After TLOU Part 2 launched in 2020, ND had a problem in that they didn't have a new project to slip into since they couldn't do their normal pre-production prior to the game launching. This left a massive gap in their release lineup because they would have had to begin concept/pre-production of this new game (this being Neils game) in 2020 which typically takes about 3 or so years, and then add a couple of years for full production on top of that to get it out the door. Normally once a project launches, ND would go through a cycle of layoffs/rehiring between projects which would also cause problems in getting new folks up to speed on their tech and processes. What they were able to do with this gap was fill it with projects like Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection, TLOU Part 1, TLOU Part 2 and TLOU Online. Those projects allowed them to retain their team after TLOU Part 2 launched, it allowed them to update their tech for the PS5 and train their team on developing for this new platform. Plus of course it also brought in revenue for the studio since they are a business. These releases also had synergy with the HBO show as sales spiked with the shows release.
On top of that, those games were getting PC ports, so it makes all the sense in the world to give PS5 owners a modernized version to take advantage of the benefits of the platform. There was absolutely nothing pointless about those projects.
