This is a bit disingenuous, because PC gamers had other options to keep playing online for free even while a paid service was being presented. They didn't actually sacrifice anything.
Sony deserve a lot of criticism for a lot of things. But this account requirement response is disproportionate. Keep that energy for when they start implementing their own launcher like EA and Ubisoft.

Why would you call people corporate shills for feeling this way? Who is high and mighty? I think the gaming community showed one if its worst sides this weekend.
There was a minority of people who took things to far like in every form of protest. This was a shit heel move by Sony and they fucking learned a lesson. And you are comparing Apples to Oranges here, an apt comparison would be the 2K launcher and the Bethesda launcher both got the same fucking treatment. EA and Ubisoft up and left Steam a long ass time ago only to come crawling back because no one wanted their shit.

So what's the solution? What should people do if they're not happy with something that a company does, especially if it happens AFTER they've spent the money on the product?
I was honestly just trying to spark some conversation. Clearly there isn't an appetite for that here, so I'll read the room and bow out!

Hopefully this does serve as a shot across the bow against future attempts at needlessly enshittifying games for corporate gain. And make no mistake, that's exactly what adding mandatory points of friction and potentially failure to an experience that was not only working, but thriving for months without those things, does.

This doesn't condone the abuse and harassment, of course, but consumers absolutely should feel free to voice their displeasure with the tools at their disposal. I'm here for PC players being protective of the space.

You will see people complaining about GPU prices in almost every comment section on every social media platform or internet forum, I barely see anyone complaining about console price increase or the fact that PS Plus almost doubled it's price for seemingly no reason

The launch trailer for Ghost of Tsushima is going to have "PSN ACCOUNT REQUIRED FOR MULTIPLAYER" as a watermark on every frame of that trailer after all this.

As long as it also includes the following watermarks:

"ONLY 69 COUNTRIES WILL BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE MULTIPLAYER PART OF THIS GAME; THEY WILL STILL PAY THE SAME PRICE, THOUGH"

or

"ONLY AVAILABLE IN 69 COUNTRIES"

or

"YOU WILL NEED TO BREAK OUR OWN TOS IF YOU WANT TO PLAY MULTIPLAYER. THOUGH WE WON'T OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZE THAT YOU NEED TO DO THAT. BREAK TOS AT YOUR OWN RISK"

That'll be covered by a small asterisk and one frame at the end detailing all this, in a blink and you'll miss it type of situation.

Good move by Sony. I'm shocked they backed down, not a move they usually make.

Now everyone back to Hellmire. There are bugs that need killin.

Curious to see if the devs are going to try to add some story text/major order in the near future that will not so subtlety reference this whole fiasco. Something about the Automatons trying to force an update on the Helldivers computer systems so we have to defend a bunch of Automaton planets or disable radio towers for a few days. 🤣

Also the outcry when NVIDIA tried to pass off the now-RTX 4070 Ti as the RTX 4080 12GB. PC players are very vocal about this stuff.

PC Gamers did.
They burned down paid Games for Windows Live.
PC gamers don't need to pay for Online

Console players took the whole Paid online laying down.
Console players need to pay a fifth of their console purchase price every year to play online.
PC and Console players are different. Theres a reason GFWL is dead.

I mean there were plenty of games people wanted to play just no one was paying for that shit.
So in other words, PC gamers are not to be fucked with

This is what voting with your wallet really looks like. Asking for refunds got Sony to panic, and they reversed a decision that helped no one but them.
Fair enough, I actually have been offline for a few days due to rl busy so I didn't realize people were getting refunds as well. Yep, that would change their mind.

I am happy that Sony reversed this action and is hopefully trying to make this game available for the affected countries. Games should be for everyone. I don't care much for gamers living in countries that didn't get affected and just didn't want to link bother with another account. However, if they want to have PSN linking I guess they have to find another more creative solution.

Oh no, it's not a blasphemy against Sony. In fact until they reverse the whole delisting thing (unsure if that has happened or not) they should get heat. That was an actively horrible move.

However people acting like they've "won" when they already sign up for several different publishers, sometimes even have to use their dedicated clients, is super duper weird.

All this mess for something they already for most other games comes across as it being some sort of offense against PC gamers. In particular the tweet in the quote.

It's okay to not want to sign up for things, that I get and it's perfectly fine. It's weird however when this is seemingly the big exception in a sea of similar systems.

First:
People explained the difference already: Even though it was advertised before launch, it was enforced later, where they suddenly told people "sign in or don't play after X date". Other accounts were set up day one.
And in the case it wasn't, it caused outrage. There are many exemple of games implementing EOS after launch or asking for an Epic account in the steam version. Or Accounts for single player content, with Bethesda.net and Doom Eternal for exemple.

To say that "it's the same as others"' is wrong. And to say "it's the first time people complain" is wrong too. No, Sony isn't target by some sort of conspiracy.

I genuinely have no idea why anyone was defending this. This was a genuinely bad move from the jump so it's good that they're trying to rectify it.

Not sure about you, but I have in excess of ten accounts I need to play my games on this platform. We aren't anything to be admired or emulated.

My PC username is literally the same as here, but then we both know it's not a platform in its own right anymore.

The way gamerz take on these things, tongue-in-cheek but also not, is hilarious and so utterly myopic.

Like, sure, praise a good game with a good business model. Lord knows there's enough shite. But equally stop pretending it's the only exemplar, and stop pretending it's not come from the same maw as much of the rest.

It's a bit like kids convinced they've tricked the adults at a birthday party by scoring extra sweets.

Its always funny when someone who was clearly looking for a gotcha gets countered this badly haha.
Its like people either don't know or forgot what happened with the 4080 12gb that was rebranded back to a 4070ti due to pc gamers being pissed off at being misled and GFWL dying because of the same crowd.

And there's plenty more if they looked beforehand.

I've seen this sort of comment a few times and I don't understand how people don't realize that just releasing a launcher won't guarantee that they get majority or even a very significant portion of 100% share of each sale cause its not guaranteed. Its likely that they won't sell much at all.

The lesson is "make linking optional but add incentives for people to link".

There are so many weird takes in this thread It's mindblowing how deep into the "corporations are my friends and anyone acting negative against them is acting negative against a friend!" some people are...
It was not a serious post.

Thats the most nonsensical thing ever. Giving positive feedback for what should be the norm. Do you also praise your government because air isnt taxed?

I don't disagree with you.

However, In this scenario the government would be Sony, not Arrowhead. I would be fine with the negative reviews staying there if they were left at Sony.com.

"Gamers showed their worst this weekeend". The company tried to strongarm people who had already bought the game, cut off access to many, and then delisted it in litteraly hundreds of countries.

This was a godawful blatantly anti-consumer move. Like genuienly astounding. No one should defend it because of a few terrible people if you go trawling through reddit comments to find them.

Do we think they're gonna region lock Ghost of Tsushima? PSN linking is mandatory for multiplayer/legends. Tricky cause single player would work find in non PSN supported regions, but the multi won't.

And as several people from those countries in all these threads have tried to tell you all over and over again, there was nothing wrong with that and they've been happily doing that for >20 years already and were happy to continue doing so as is the norm in their countries and Sony did not care at all for it or they wouldn't have sold it to them in the first place. But no, everyone made a big stink about a non-issue and now it can't be sold in their countries anymore. So congrats, they got screwed over. I'm sure they appreciate it.
It's great that you're happy doing it but if I were in a affected territory, "others do it so I can too" wouldn't really put me at ease. It's my money on the line. It's not a non-issue, it's fucking pathetic that PSN has been operating for as long as it has and still has so many regions missing, meanwhile users in those regions are breaking the ToS to the point where customer service agents are openly telling affected region users to simply break the ToS.

At any point, Sony could take a look at your account and ban you. Effectively wiping out your digital library and access to titles online. It's in everyone's interest that these regions are officially supported or that the ToS is changed to include language that allows users to sign up in regions they're not a part of. No more gray areas.

These companies can't be rigid in their enforcement of their precious terms of service while simultaneously benefitting from their lack of enforcement when it's convenient.

Lowkey, PC players get pretty territorial about Steam too...let's not act like they don't go crazy if everything doesn't come to their platform in exactly the way they want it to.
They don't go crazy, they simply don't buy the games since they don't want to deal with the jankiness and cumbersomeness of other launchers.

Good.
Just make it a toggle geniuses, also instead of being so hardheaded about it why not making a fun thing with some celebratory PS-PC skins or something you know to have a positive spin about the integration.
Now we have this dark cloud above all the Playstation games coming to PC where it should only be a huge positive fell good thing.
This is probably the better outcome for all thier PS titles going forward on Steam. Just make it incentive wise to join PC-PSN for skins or whatnot.
