This is the first time an official Pokémon website in any region has gone so comprehensively into the Pokémon Adventures manga, and allowing it to be called "the definitive Pokemon manga" puts to rest a long-standing debate concerning the Pocket Monsters gag manga by Kosaku Anakubo.
One of these days I need to make an OT for this. One of these days.

Edit: Here are links to buy the series officially and digitally in English:
Volumes 1 to 29 (from Red and Blue to Emerald)
Volumes 30 to 40 (from Diamond and Pearl to Platinum)
Volumes 41 and 42 (HeartGold and SoulSilver)
Volumes 43 to 51 (Black and White)
Volumes 52 and 53 (Black 2 and White 2, ongoing)

Is there still a bunch of series ongoing at once? I remember it all got a bit missed up when Black and White came out.

Black 2 • White 2 and Sun • Moon are still ongoing, while the arcs in between, X • Y and Omega Ruby • Alpha Sapphire, have been finished and put into "mini volumes" until B2W2 finishes up in the mainline volumes.

Man, I don't think I ever read it farther than the 2nd gen arcs. It's so good, I need to go back to it.

You really need to go back then. Gen 3 with Ruby/Saphire and FR/LG are probably my favorites of the ones I read. I think I stopped around mid gen 4 or 5, so I don't know how good it is later.

The problem with Pokemon Adventures/Special is that it started getting extremely delayed during Emerald and the series is still suffering from it with the gen 5 story still not even being completed.

What do they do in the manga to be considered dark tone? Serious question never read any pokemon manga.
Themes and tone in general tend to be darker and more serious than the anime (though that's not difficult considering the anime).

Pokemon also occasionally die in the manga as well iirc.

Pokemon abilities are explored way more than in the anime or games - for instance, Team Rocket surrounds Saffron with a psychic forcefield that nobody can enter, so Blue uses Substitute to get in (since the substitute doll is not a living being). This also means pokemon (and pokeballs) are used as weapons, and multiple times during the story, involving the trainers themselves in the battles is fair game, either jumping in front of attacks, knocking them out indirectly (through heat/smoke) or straight up going for kills:

Koga is wearing a bunch of pokemon as armor to use their abilities as both protection, weapons and communication system^

It really is.
If anyone was looking into it, I highly recommend reading up to at least the emerald arc

Special kicks ass! It's everything Pokémon should be. Need to catch up. I think it's time for a re-read.

Ah I see seems really interesting

Midgar, With Love
Heck. I remember loving these as a kid but I didn't get very far at all. I'm not even sure if I made to the volume 2 material.

This really digs up old memories. I had no idea it was still going. What I wouldn't do for an ongoing anime based on this universe.

I would like to add that on top of a darker tone they also utilize some really cool outside-of-the-box tactics, I'll never forget how Red supercharged his Pikachu while still in the ball so that it unleashed an instant thundershock attack the moment it popped out.

Always nice to see Special getting official recognition. It's gorgeous, it's funny, and it's the best realization of the world of Pokémon in any medium.

Same here, didn't really like the Diamond-Pearl-Platinum trio adventures as much, stopped midway through it when I realize I'm just blitzing through.

Man i used to read these when i was younger ... brings back memories. Maybe i should dig the ones i have out of the storage.

Not to put any disrespect on the current artist, but i liked the original one of the first few volumes better. Does anyone know why the series changed the artists?

Definitive Pokemon medium period, not just manga. It at the very least had the right to age up the protagonists and stick with that, with both Red and Green being in their early 20s by the time the XY Chapter happens, and I am assuming Sun and Moon will feature them in their Gen 7 attire while being in their mid 20s. The HGSS and ORAS chapters also had their respective protags in their midteens instead of 10-11 years old because the remake events take place afterwards instead of replacing previous events, and everything is connected in some way. Its why I want DPt remakes more than Let's Go Sinnoh, slightly older Lucas and Barry will be an amazjng sight to behold.

It's too bad that she got sick. I also preferred her artstyle.

Stopped getting the manga for a while after HGSS. Recently got back to collecting the Gen 3 sequel and some of the BW series. Think I will only get the remakes sequels now lol. The series do pick up again after Gen 4 which went on for too long.

I do want to read XY since Red and gang appears In those but there is a little too much to catch up, the only reason i got some of the BW volumes are due to them being on sales anyway.

FUCK YEAH! The ride from Red to D&P is one of the greatest continuing arcs in manga I've ever seen. Shit is wild.

Is this really such a big deal if Yamamoto, who works on the series itself calls this a definitive manga? :/

Anyway...Special is alright, but for me the best Pokemon manga is the fan made "Festival of Champions." I highly recommend it to Pokémon fans.

So Sun • Moon • Ultra Sun • Ultra Moon is a single arc, same as the Gold • Silver • Crystal arc. SMUSUM is going to be a bit of a pain to write as an acronym, but we'll live.

We also got the new volume cover for that arc.

In high resolution, no less.

Nothing has adapted the feeling of Pokémon quite like the Red/Blue/Green arc. It's perfect. And the Yellow arc is probably the most batshit insane/awesome piece of Pokémon storytelling I've ever read.

While the later arcs get a bit too contrived (Gold/Silver is a mess, despite being entertaining), I like how they made each its own thing. Even the DPP arc that starts terribly gets great development and ends on a positively strong note.

Whenever I make the OT, I'll link to where to buy them in English officially and digitally. For now, here's the links to each series via Amazon:
Volumes 1 to 29 (from Red and Blue to Emerald)
Volumes 30 to 40 (from Diamond and Pearl to Platinum)
HeartGold • SoulSilver and Black • White are coming out digitally in five days, so I don't have series links for those on Amazon yet. For now, I'll just link to both HGSS volumes and the first volume of BW.
Volume 41
Volume 42
Volume 43

Thanks for sharing.

I messaged Viz at March 10, 2017 if there is a chance for a digital copy. They replied to me that they don't have the digital rights to publish the series. Guess I could slowly buy one book at a time. And probably ask for Eyeshield21 too.

This manga made me love Pokemon again.

I can't wait to see how they adapt Rainbow Rocket and if Yellow returns for Let's Go.

That's small time compared to Green slicing an arbok in half (they super toned down the gore to cartoon levels after that) and Blue's arm going boom dynamite against the Elite 4.

It's a shame that the quality of the series dropped after Gen 4 due to the story not being able to keep up with the release of new games. It's still good, but just not on the same level as it used to be due to the story being rushed.

If only the mangaka had been able to switch to weekly releases.

I love that scene so much.
