Spain
It is the year in which the unions begin to be formed seriously and there will be some controversy with some personality saying that it is a bad thing.

2. Metroid Prime 4 gets delayed
Everybody's excited for Metroid Prime 4. However while it will get shown off next year in some form it will be announced to come out in 2020. This will, of course, make fans super angry with the inevitable claims of Nintendo being doomed. To make up for this however, an HD Remaster of Metroid Prime 1 will get announced and released in 2019 but while the sentiment is nice, not being the entire trilogy will also make fans angry.

How would it be a delay if it never had a release date of any kind to begin with?

Anyway, a few predictions:

1. Days Gone will surprise a lot of people with its quality- an 85+ MC.

2. Retro Studios will finally reveal their game for a fall 2019 release, and it's not a Star Fox racing game.

3. The Last of Us 2 will be Sony's big holiday game- DS and GoT will be 2020.

4. Neither Bayonetta 3 nor Metroid Prime 4 will release in 2019

5. Pikmin 4 will be a surprise announcement for a 2019 release

6. PS5 and Xbox 4 will be announced, but won't come out until Holiday 2020.

7. Dreams will be a strong contender for Game of The Year

8. Super Mario 3D World comes to Switch Holiday 2019.

9. Microsoft acquires a few more studios.

Ok, I was more right than wrong for 2018 so let's see if I can do it again in 2019!

Sony
Either Last of Us 2 or Death Stranding will release in 2019, but not both!
Just repeating my Days Gone prediction from last year: Will do quite well, but will still "underperform" to those who simply don't like it.
PS5 gets announced for 2020
PS4 finally gets a decent permanent price cut at some point
Hardware moderately down from 2018

Nintendo
E3 will be all about the new Metroid and Bayonetta 3, but both are set to release in 2020
We get a first look of a new IP that will be launched in 2020
The rumoured revision is much smaller than people think and very few will upgrade, but there will be a spike in new buyers
One more Wii U port, just because.
Hardware relatively flat

MS
New Gears is released to little fanfare, but will be massive on game pass and dominate MS's most played charts
First look at 2-3 games as a result of their studio acquisitions
Crackdown will come and go and will be brought up at the end of the year as a "holy shit, crackdown was released?" sort of thing
Hardware will be steady due to MS pushing game pass

Wow... .... in terms of realistic predictions, I think I'm about 99% in agreement with this. Just a few slight adjustments I'd make/add:

Nintendo:
- We don't see Retro's new project, cementing further extreme worry about the future of the studio
- Agreed on Switch revision, but teardowns and impressions will prove that - unofficially - it's clocked higher or something, causing a small increase to performance (think a bit more than Xbox One S)
- I think we either see a decent change to Switch online or the anger surrounding it grows and grows. Switch Online is awful in it's current state.
- Animal Crossing + Pokemon + MP4 are the big titles for 2019. Rumors will be that Bayo 3, Pikmin 3, and Retro's game are the big 2020 titles. One brand new IP will be shown off and people will be really excited for it (think more like Splatoon, less like ARMS).
- "Star Fox Grand Prix" never materializes. Was always bullshit. MAYBE it's a Star Fox game or something and people defend the rumor saying "things change.," but I won't be convinced.
- New Switch hardware and/or bundle will keep the hardware sales momentum.

Square:
-No TWENY 2 or FFXVI news at all.

Anthem:
- Will only be okay, will sell okay; yes. But still drastically miss expectations. Also - game will be SEVERELY light on content. Destiny issues x2, basically. Also, MTX will be added a month after launch and piss people off. We might get one expansion or MAYBE a new Dragon Age... but ultimately, Bioware is on its course toward Papa EA's graveyard.

Others:
- Blizzard or Valve do something truly unexpected; good or bad, I don't know what. But both seem... in a weird place right now. I don't know if that means a "WoW 2" or "Overwatch 2," - a brand new IP - maybe HL3 spin-off, maybe a new piece of hardware. But one of these guys is gonna have a surprise for us.

- I don't see a new Skies of Arcadia happening, unfortunately.

Too much negativity on ERA and in the gaming community nowadays so my predictions will all be positive!
-The big 4 games that everyone and their momma on this site (except me apparently) are excited about (KH3, DMCV, Sekiro, and RE2 Remake) will all live up to the lofty expectations fans have for these titles and will be financially successful
-Anthem will make an 80+ Meta and be financially successful for EA and Bioware which will give them some much needed job security, and will not have any controversies besides maybe a downgrade
-Days Gone will outperform 99% of ResetEra's expectations both critically and commercially
-Dreams will be considered a GOTG contender and will make a 95+ Meta
-Rage 2 will be a critical hit and get gamers to install Bethesda's launcher to play it
-TLOU2 will come out in 2019
-Gears 5 will also release in 2019, and be considered a breath of fresh air for the Gears franchise
-Microsoft will have their best year of the generation in general first party wise with Gears 5, Ori 2, Cuphead DLC, and Battletoads, and will give gamers even more faith in Xbox next gen
-Nintendo will have one of the best years in their history as I am expecting Metroid Prime 4, Bayo 3, Animal Crossing, Pokemon 2019, Town, UA3, and more to come out and put in work
-Sony's PS5 presser will melt our faces off with megaton on megaton
-Persona 5 will come to Switch ;P
-Microsoft's E3 2019 will also melt our faces off
-Rocksteady will announce their AAA superhero game, will look amazing
-WB Montreal will announce and release a Batman game in 2019
-Crystal Dynamics will also give us a gameplay reveal of The Avengers Project with a name, story details, and a kickass gameplay trailer that will be MS' "one last thing" at E3
-Splinter Cell will also be announced at Ubisoft's E3, will be next-gen
And those are my jolly 2019 gaming predictions! May all of the games you are excited for live up to your expectations and receive the reveals of games you have been wishing for!

Ok, let's try this.

  • Nintendo Switch will continue having a terrible online service.
  • SNES or Gameboy games will be added to Nintendo 'Netflix'.
  • Microsoft will unveil their Next-Gen Console.
  • Epic Store will share the same fate as Discord Store. Sales will be so low that developers will continue releasing their games in Steam and other storefronts.
  • Bethesda will be forced to release Rage 2 on Steam. Same with Fallout 76.
  • Also, since Fallout 76 and Rage 2 had low PC Sales, Doom Eternal will be released on Steam.
  • Nintendo will release a second Fighter Pass for Smash Bros Ultimate.
  • Microsoft will add more games to Game Pass for PC.

5. Sony coasts this year.
Unlike Microsoft, Sony will not unveil their next-gen console next year and will save that for 2020. However Days Gone, Dreams, and Ghosts of Tsushima will all be released in 2019 with all three garnering positive reception and help the PS4 continue to sell well. The Last of US II and Death Stranding will also be dated for 2020. However combined with no other new announcements Sony will have a relatively quiet year with many continuing to speculate.
I can see why you think this given the false narrative that is being pushed, by that is sooooo unbelievably unlikely.

"No new announcements"... I mean, really?

-The Smash Fighter is pass is all third party characters. None of them are of western origin, and there is no season 2

-Pokemon Gen 8 is only a marginal improvement over Gen 7. It still sells ridiculously well.

-MP4 and Bayo 3 get shown off and dated for 2020

-Ace Attorney 7 gets announced for Switch. May be multiplatform.

-Nintendo enjoys a strong year led by Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, and Pokemon. 2-3 smaller first party games like Pikmin 4 get announced and do well for themselves.

They haven't had any major new announcements in the past couple of years really. Just don't think they're going to announce a major first party game until the PS5. What matters more is having a solid lineup of games which they have.

Sure, but according to Benji, there's one more "major" AAA exclusive left to be announced for the generation. Not every announcement has to be major. I don't think not announcing heaps of new games counts as "coasting". Even if PS5 isn't announced this year, there will be leaks that will be verified and count as news.

1. PS5 / Xbox Next are revealed.
2. Nintendo Switch has it's best consistent year of releases.
3. Nintendo Switch doesn't meet it's 20 million salesgoal in the fiscal year.
4. Doom Eternal won't be the best FPS. It will be a game that comes out of nowhere.
5. VR has a big year for software releases and standalone headset releases. Not mainstream, but picks up significant more pace.

CTRL+F -> Half Life 3.

Oh, well...

My last prediction: A new Half Life gets revealed in 2019. For real this time.

Look, this is just my predictions. I don't see anything that indicates something like that but I could be wrong and that's ok. Don't take this as console war bullshit, because it's not.

WILD SPECULATION TIME!? THE HUNT IS ON BOYS

- We will not get any official word about next gen consoles, but we WILL get credible leaks about performance and features...along with patent-induced McCarthyism and blatantly fake "leaks" getting traction due to gamer hysteria.

- Anthem will be FAR better than Destiny was out of the gate and eat into Destiny 2's user base, but still go through teething problems with both network performance and providing things to do for the most obsessive players. It will also usurp Destiny in the "popular game people performatively whine about despite having no interest in it to begin with" category.

- DMC5 and RE2 will both live up to the hype; RE2 will hit its sales targets, but DMC5 won't, effectively killing the latter franchise.

- Pokemon for Switch 2 will draw from Let's Go in visuals and QoL changes, while also offering both traditional and Go catching options for wild Pokemon. The fanbase will writhe in agony while the game sells like hotcakes.

- Epic will throw ALL the money into making their store a viable alternative to Steam; inertia, habit and existing buy-in for the latter will grant them little progress next year, but will begin to bear fruit in 2020 and beyond.

- Bloodstained will just "whelm", and be forgotten soon after release.

- Fortnite will still be as popular, but will appear to be losing steam because the press won't talk about it as much.

- Bigotry and sexism will still be a plague on the community; worker exploitation and sexual harrassment will still infest the industry itself.

You will still use Discord. You will accept Epic as your new king. If you think that Epic won't make Fortnite our reality then you haven't been paying attention.

Scarlet (the next Xbox) is announced/teased, like the Xbox One X was as Project Scorpio at E3 2016.

Days Gone is highly successful critically and commercially.

New Switch model is revealed in the first half of the year and release in the fall.

Borderlands 3 is announced/teased.

Epic Games Store is highly successful, garnering more exclusives and even some migration for games to become exclusive.

Metroid Prime 4 is properly revealed with a targeted release of 2020.

Anthem will be a critical and commercial failure, ultimately leading to the shuttering of BioWare.

Microsoft will acquire more first party studios.

Ninja Theory's next game will be announced/teased.

Media Molecule's Dreams will not be released.

- A new Ninja Gaiden game will be announced. Alternatively, Microsoft will fund a spiritual director developed by Itagaki (Ninja Theory + Itagaki?)
- Nintendo will publish a new Doshin The Giant game for Switch
- Bethesda will announce a new Hexen game

alternative to lootboxes
I believe the lootboxes will be on their way out but something will happen in it's place. Perhaps a more focus on micro transactions. We're not out of the wood yet with that one.

Bayonetta 3 delayed
I think there's a few more years left in the oven for this yet. I think they'll show another CGI trailer at the game awards at the end of the year.

Nintendo will unveil a new casual project
I dont they're done trying the labo thing and will try 1 or 2 more packages. Perhaps a game sort of like Minecraft where the camera takes a photo of your cardboard designs and puts it in game. Sort of like a cardboard Lego Skylanders lol.

Also Switch Fit and Switch sports has gotta happen.

Netflix app will appear on Switch
I believe more apps will happen such as Netflix

Playstation now to be rebranded and marketed as a strong competitor to Game pass
I'm thinking a name change and a bigger push.

Chrono Trigger Remaster for all consoles
i think the success of Octopath Traveller is not lost on Square so we'll see a lot of the 2D final fantasy games remade and put on Switch for sure. This is a wild guess but the time is now to release a rake of 2D RPGs.

Metroid Prime 4 delayed
We're fairly certain trilogy is coming at some point. Thing is though I can't see Nintendo releasing them too close together. Either trilogy doesn't happen at all and we see Prime 4 next year or they'll take their time with 4 for next year and release trilogy this year.

Snes online unveiled in January direct
They're running out of interesting Nes games. I think by the Summer we'll be playing Snes games online. It also ties in with the news that they are pretty much discontinuing the classic consoles.

Last year I was: 5.5/14, not too bad I'd say.

My predictions for 2019 in gaming are as follows:
  1. Discord is Acquired. I think a large company like Amazon, Epic, or Microsoft would be likely to pursue something like this.
  2. Microsoft continues acquisitions. At least 2 more studios are purchased by MS
  3. Microsoft opens a new studio - built from the ground up, like the initiative.
  4. The next Xbox is announced at E3. Launches 2020. Fully BC. It has hardware support for ray tracing
  5. Playdead's (Limbo, Inside) new game is given a title and trailer at the Xbox E3 show
  6. A Forza product launches in 2019, but it's not FM8. Perhaps major FM7 expansion or new franchise entry
  7. Ghosts of Tsushima launches in 2019.
  8. Death Stranding and TLOU part II are 2020 games.
  9. Sony's decision to skip E3 does not pay off (considered a poor decision. Sony is back at E3 in 2020).
  10. PS5 is announced. Launches in 2020. BC with PS4. No ray tracing.
  11. Unreal Engine 5 is revealed.
  12. Metroid Prime 4 is released in 2019
  13. Square's Avengers game is revealed as a next-gen / cross-gen title
  14. GOTY for 2019 is a game that is not currently announced (as of Jan 2, 2019)

3. Actually, Anthem is pretty good
Last year I made a less than optimistic prediction about Anthem and then I turned out to be entirely wrong mostly because it didn't get released in 2018. I'll backtrack and say that while there will be a lot of pressure (and haters), it'll be heralded as pretty good even if it's not the proper return to form for Bioware that fans expected.

@ me in a year.

3. Actually, Anthem is pretty good
This is such a nice sepia-framed sentence by the end before 2020. This is the only debunk you need in case you thought Anthem was "disappointing" or "outrageous disaster!" etc. EVERYONE called it, and only few people would go against the grain and do this "You know, it might actually not suck!" thing.
