They're not really contradictory - Sony may be making approaches but that doesn't tell us whether Remedy is open to it or not.

Anyway, we'll see.

I get that. It just seems.. odd.. even backed by their own analysis.

Zhuge said there were being explored - and well every Corp "explores" acquisitions - they have teams dedicated to it.

I mean, if the source was rock solid and movement with legit offers were happening.

You would just think they would lead a story of that ~as news~ where as this seems to be a single throw away sentence in the middle of a "wish list" article that has a poll.

Like you said, wait and see I suppose.

I'd be ok with that. I'll always have a Playstation and their games seem like a good fit for Sony. Potentially getting more funding under Sony could result in some very amazing games on next-gen hardware.

I'd lose their games on PC, but Control is already lost by being Epic exclusive which means that it might as well not exist at all on PC as far as I'm concerned.

Quantum Break was quite bad, as was Wake...I couldn't still force myself to finish Break after repeated tries over years...

If control turns out great I can totally see it happening, should pick up insomniac too while they're at it.

Didn't they just visit Remedy and vice versa?
I'm not sure.
I mean the type of games they make are similar to some of Sonys heavy hitters, but has remedy every really worked with Sony?
aren't the Max Payne ports on the ps2 the only time they've even released titles on sonys platforms?

Not complaining if Sony grab em, just seems random to me.

Quantum Break is one of the most boring games I've played this gen, the game has terrible dialogue and writing, why would Sony think about picking them up?

We've also heard from a number of sources that Sony is lining up a bid, although the company's recent reacquisition of the Alan Wake brand casts some doubt on that speculation
Remedy didn't "reacquire the Alan Wake brand", they got the publishing rights to Alan Wake, the game they made 10 years ago. Alan Wake the IP was always owned by Remedy.

I would not be against that. Would mean they continue making Story-driven Singleplayer games.

Alan Wake 2 as a Playstation exclusive would be hilarious tho.

I think if Sony try to acquire Remedy, this is because games are long to make and the first three years of PS4 were not great from an exclusive point of view, not enough great games(Bloodborne and UC4...). And Sony close Evolutions Studio. They need to step up for having a much better PS5 first three years...

As someone who's bought every game Remedy have put out on the PC I really hope this isn't true.

Remedy is a good fit for Sony. They do the 3rd person story driven action games we often have on Playstation. I wonder if their games would sell more if they were a Sony first party studio (being exclusive, big budget).

Microsoft had their chance and blew it.

Why do you think that? QB seems to have been heavily funded, and Remedy will have benefitted from the technology support provided by MS.

And how much of Northlight has Microsoft input? Can't see them being to happy about that getting punted to Sony.

(I really enjoyed QB, while Control just looks like it's the same concept with cheaper assets.)

Waste of money for an okay studio. The amount they're going to pay could probably fund a couple of good exclusives.

Yes, they would totally sell more than being multiplat on every platform...

With backing from Sony of course they would.

There's about 3 studio from Sony who in my opinion can sell more being multiplatform and that's ND, SSM and Guerilla with Horizon. The rest would probably have lower sales if not for Sony's pedigree and reputation.

Just like Gears and maybe Halo wouldn't be what they are without MS.

I was never a fan of their work and I love third person strory driven games. But I think that's a smart pick by Sony. They fit their style and with Sony's resources they can be MUCH better at what they do.

Note of course that Remedy is a publicly traded company and the top 5 stakeholders are:

remedy5dk9j.png

The stakes decline very rapidly after #1 and continue dropping precipitously. Sony would need to convince quite a few people (Top 12 investors selling 100% of their stake, or some combination of a larger number of lesser investors) to sell and I don't think this is a deal they could do quietly, we'd get a period where they expressed interest, and then people would have to vote on yes/no. Not an expert on corporate law in Finland, of course, I just don't expect some kind of stage announcement where they go "yeah, Remedy is now a Sony studio!"

Holy shit yes please.

Sony is setting themselves up as the one and only mature single player story game platform.

But also seeing Quantum Break, maybe Sony can make Remedy do good with some shackles.

Seems like an odd pick when Remedy's games is kinda in the same mold as a lot of Sony first party games.

? MS just acquired 6 studios in past 12 months. sony should also bolster their first party a little to keep with competition and not get too comfortable

And some of them made only small or even indie games, others already developed exclusively for Microsoft and another is a completely new studio. And none of them are anywhere near the level of Sony's top studio's, so I think they're just fine even without any acquisitions.

I would turn it around: let's hope for Microsoft that Sony doesn't acquire anymore studio's and especially not studio's like Insomniac and Remedy, because if they do, next gen is gonna be a very long one for MS.

Sony's biggest exclusives have gotten to the point that they do that.

A big reason that those three are at that point is because they are part of WWS. They didn't get there on their own. ND and GG were not elite when Sony acquired them. GG is just getting to that level recently.

I'll wait for something from a insider here on this or official confirmation. Anyone can make up such claims. That being said, those visits that took place could be a sign of it, can't it?

Well, at this point the 'third IP' being developed is more than likely Alan Wake 2, considering the rights buy, the TV Show announcement coupled with Sam Lake's comments in this Variety article from last year.

https://variety.com/2018/gaming/news/alan-wake-tv-show-1202938003/

So, possibly a Game/TV Show tie-in, a-la QB, but for realses, on a real TV channel.

Also, the Remedy Wiki page notes 505 Games is a lead third-party investor on Control.

Seems to me, Remedy are keen to spread themselves around and remain independent, I don't see what incentive they would have to tie themselves to one studio, it would for them be like Microsoft all over again.

Some people seems to forget before 2017, the exclusives release were a bit dry... They need more studio to have a generation with good excluives game every year...

From the second year onward, they widened their horizon, with a "This can be done because this is PS4" feeling. As a side effect of this ambitious attitude, there were also some delays. On one side, there were hit games like Bloodborne, but on the other end, the studios couldn't release as many games as planned.

After that, the games that were developed slowly but surely started to appear, and Yoshida-san feels that 2017 was the year in which the console really came into its own, even if he would have liked to publish some of the games earlier.
