Can I ask why this makes the game an instant skip for people? I'm not being wilfully obtuse or anything, I'm new to PC gaming and have no idea why this has made people lose interest.
The client and service from Bethesda is pathetic. There have been absurd security issues, and the most basic functional issues, such as difficulty download, installing, or even playing games. Worse still is the infrastructure through which online capabilities are handled leading to issues playing online, cheating etc. Add to that the sheer stupidity shown in updates, banning, questionable refunding potential, issues with the ability to maintain client stability and Bethesda's poor policies on pricing to begin with, terrible minimal feature set and utility - - why should I buy from them?
The fact is, there are tons of excellent games to play, so much so that I barely have time for anything new. If you present me with such an awful crippling of a game and very questionable perpetuity, security and stability for what I buy vs another game on a better more trustworthy service, I am going to leave Bethesda's offering every time.
Bethesda out competed themselves through their own stupidity.
Sadly a game I really want - Doom Eternal, is likely to be in the same situation, and just as above, I will not buy the game unless it is on a better service that I trust. I'll just buy a different game on any number of preferred services (which I actually already did anticipating this). Epic has the same problem, and I'll do the same thing. Their loss.
