I suppose. RDR2 and GoW are very interesting games to pick between. Both are heavily story focused, but deliver it in such different ways that it's creating these diverging, strong opinions. I guess when you have games that are so similar yet different you are going to end up with very passionate debates.

Also, one is made by the most popular game company in the world.
And the other is a popular sony exclusive which is a magnet for the fanboys and console wars.

This is the most insufferable shitpost war I've seen since the days of Mass Effect 2 vs Mass Effect 1.

While I don't think the awards are rigged.
Theres is the public vote and the vote from about 50 game journalists.
It would be interesting to see the split of the votes.
God of war has also been out a lot longer then RDR2 so will it have more public votes.?
Also what if RDR2 got more public votes but the game journalists picked GOW, then it really is just the opinion of game journalists.
Knowing the voting split would be better.

Excuse my ignorance but is there a large enough gaming communiy or gaming indusry in Australia to justify the existence of those awards?

RDR2 will be considered the GTA IV of this generation. I have zero doubts. If anything, GTA IV had an arguably warmer community reception than RDR2.

He said that the award that matters the most is the TGA?

Anyone knows that TGA is the most important award in the business

Let's not pretend it isn't just because your fav game didn't win

"Everyone" from the industry was there, it was voted by 69 media outlets, it was watched by 26M people.

It doesn't get bigger than that

Well deserved, it's the best open world game I've played since the amazing Horizon: Zero Dawn. RDR2 is a real masterpiece, even with its flaws. I've had tons of fun so far finishing the story and all stranger missions I've seen. Even then I will not be done with this game for a while, there's still so much to see.

Man, not being into AAA and having no horse in the race makes for great popcorn entertainment.

I loves me some good old fashioned cage matches.

Well deserved, easily the best game this gen.

This thread was embarrassing though.

I'm sure this will be the result of any more threads that get posted about RDR2 winning a GOTY award.

What is it with some people's obsession to discredit a genuine masterpiece and to dismiss RDR2 achievements? The game is overwhelmingly well received, if your using this forum as a barometer, then go to ERAs GOTY thread to see that its performing well. It's a lazy argument that can be put towards any AAA game.

Judging from the picks in the other categories, I'm surprised it didn't get the indie game of the year award.
