I stumbled upon this video the other day and decided to take the plunge since it's only $30 + tax w/ shipping. Sure enough, once you get it setup, it works controlling Spotify on my desktop.

This is great for me since when I'm working from home, I'm remote desktop into work which means the Spotify interface for me isn't immediately available and I'd have to go back to my desktop to get to it. Even voice commands work too. It's nice having a dedicated interface to control Spotify without having to swap back to it on your desktop. It even works with the free version of Spotify so there's no need to subscribe in order to use it. I imagine there's other situations where this could be handy too like maybe while playing a game.

I didn't realize they were selling these for so cheap. It's now sold out, unfortunately.

I generally just control it with my phone for that use case. I don't drive much these days, so my Car Thing doesn't really get used. Maybe I'll try bringing it indoors for a while.

You can do this with your phone if Spotify is on the same network so I wouldn't worry about missing out if you don't have one

I really like mine but I got in when it was only paying for shipping. This is definitely a neat secondary tool though. I also like that I can control other audio players from my phone with it too.

Oh wow, I only ordered it last week and saw the buy now button still there today
I guess clicking on it tells you it's sold out. Guess I lucked out with timing. Hopefully it comes back since $30 is pretty reasonable.

Wait, what? How does this work?

Usually I'll start something like a podcast on my phone while it's connected, then I can control the audio etc on the device once it started. It's not super robust but at least gives me a nice tool to pause or skip

Hmm, is this iOS only? Doing a quick Google search seems to imply they only have it currently working for iOS. When I searched for Android, I also saw this:

www.theverge.com

Spotify has stopped making its Car Thing dashboard accessory

Say goodbye to the short-lived accessory.

So sounds like Android support is never coming if they stopped making them. Guess I'm really glad I got one when I did if they're now sold out.

Can't you just use anything that has Spotify installed on it? Like literally anything. Someone put Spotify on their iPod lol that'd be cool, too.

Probably, but this has an interface designed to interact with Spotify. A nice rotating knob to interact with the display, touch screen, four buttons that you can assign for certain things, etc. Sure other things can do some of it, but has a few extra bells and whistles.

Yeah I looked back at it and it reminded me of the iPod haha

It does look ultra cool, I can't lie. I love weird gadgets!

Shame this is like the buggiest piece of hardware to ever be released because it can be pretty neat once you get it to work, and keep it in a working state.

Is there a way to keep track of stock? And do I need a Spotify account to buy one?

It worked for me and I'm on Android. I can try again tonight since it's been a bit since I've used the feature though
