Histoire - The Holy Empire of Sanbreque
Drake's Breath
Masayoshi Soken and the CBU3 sound team has already made so much of my favorite FF music in FFXIV, and they did not disappoint with their first single player FF. FFXVI's soundtrack has an overall more focused style than what's usually found in FFXIV to better match the world and story, though there's a few treats to be found that break the mold.
2. Octopath Traveler II - 464 points, 50 votes, 30 top spots
Composer: Yasunori Nishiki
Ochette, the Hunter
Critical Clash II
The Crestlands
As you may be able to tell, I adore this soundtrack, it carries the same more succinct JRPG soundtrack approach as the games that inspired Octopath in the first place, which is to day the tighter melodic loops of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 6 now with modern production values and even down to the sole composer credit (Yasunori Nishiki, you absolute mad lad), it understood the mission statement and matched both its predecessor and those classics.
3. Alan Wake II - 277 points, 34 votes, 12 top spots
Composer: Petri Alanko
Wide Awake
Herald of Darkness
Dark Ocean Summoning
The work of returning Remedy collaborator Petri Alanko is the musical glue that holds the game together, with a score that is both beautiful and deeply unnerving. It's appropriately understated and atmospheric in-game but still shines in isolation. Alanko also contributes diegetically to the game's music via otherworldly janitor Ahti's Yötön Yö. This is alongside other long term Remedy collaborator Poets of the Fall with their now infamous rock musical earworm Herald of Darkness, which reacts dynamically to the player's progression in-game. Ultimately, Alan Wake 2's soundtrack is a combination of eclectic moving parts that come together to form a remarkably cohesive whole, and it is a one-of-a-kind experience.
4. Baldur's Gate 3 - 243 points, 32 votes, 6 top spots
Composer: Borislav Slavov
Nine Blades
Raphael's Final Act
Down By The River
I don't really know what to say about this, the whole game is special and the soundtrack is no different. I love the use of the "Down By The River" motif throughout the whole game, it's an insanely catchy melody. I also really dig how they use the soundtrack dynamically in fights. It never fails when you get the first kill in a tough fight and the horns start rising up. Honestly the best buff in the game!
5. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - 207 points, 30 votes, 5 top spots
Composers: Manaka Kataoka, Maasa Miyoshi, Masato Ohashi, Tsukasa Usui
Main Theme
Colgera Battle
Dragonhead Island
Tears of the Kingdom features a lot of returning music from Breath of the Wild, but there's no shortage of new material either. Many areas (including the introductory sequence below Hyrule Castle and each of the game's dungeons) feature complex, multi-layered compositions that change dynamically as you play through them. Simpler moments, like skydiving from a tower or falling into the depths, feature recurring musical cues that help sell the majesty of the game's greatly-expanded world.

Fires of Rubicon

Steel Haze (Rusted Pride)
wins the award for best ambient/mood setting music for the year. From software is among the best at this and there's something especially effective from Armored core with its horns, mechanical grit and transient reverb that just fits the game perfectly

My Heart Feels No Pain
Too Big to Fail
I actually only played Hi-Fi Rush in Streamer Mode, which I imagine is not how most people played this game. And for all the love the way the licensed tracks were used, it'd be a shame to let that love completely overshadow the great work The Glass Pyramids did with Tango to craft original songs for players to hack-and-slash with to the beat.
8. Pizza Tower - 105 points, 13 votes, 4 top spots

It's Pizza Time!
The Death that I Deservioli
Bye Bye There!
An off kilter mix of chiptunes, modern instrumentation, weird vocal samples that feel like they could have been inspired by Sonic CD, and the occasional dose of pure hype. The final boss theme is an all timer.
9. Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed - 99 points, 15 votes, 3 top spots

New Battle!!!
Cent-Omnia Region
Redeem the Future (Finale)
Xenoblade 3 was easily my game soundtrack of the year in 2022 and has continued to be one of my all time favorite OSTs. Future Redeemed adds to Mitsuda's magnum opus with 14 stellar new tracks that are amongst this years finest songs.
You have tracks such as the Cent-Omnia Region that just make you stop and listen as soon as you reach the region, evolving area themes like the with the Black Mountain that evolve the higher you get, fantastic remixes of old songs and boss themes such as with Yesterdale - Colony 9 and Redeem the Future ~ Finale. plus bringing back Joanne Hogg with Future Awaits was a perfect way of closure to the Xenoblade Trilogy while also paying tribute the past Xeno games.

Genshin's OST is among the best in gaming but this year's music proved that it can excel without the guidance of Yu Peng Chen. Things are looking bright for the game's soundtrack!
