He looks very similar to his RE4 model. Just look at the gif I just posted. Slimmer nose, but that's it.
I watched that gif a bunch of times before posting. I'm just not seeing Leon in there, I guess.
He's got a cleft chin now, out of nowhere. That's the most pronounced thing. Eyes are more "innocent", brow ridge is less prominent. I suspect that's why Serge Chrono believes him to look "less badass", actually. Darkside Chronicles Leon has a persistent look of focus and determination on his face:
Which is absent from his more recent look. They obviously opted to go for a greener, younger rookie cop look this time around, which I'm not trying to deny is appropriate... it's just very dissimilar from past designs, which (understandably) throws people off.
Of course, the noire costume is an exception. But no RE character has ever had a consistent face. This doesn't look any less Leon than the one in Vendetta, or Darkside Chronicles. Neither of which looks anything like the doll like CGI in RE2, or the Jensen Ackles look-alike in Damnation and RE6.
Resident Evil 4, Darkside Chronicles, and Operation Raccoon City Leon all look very close, as you'll see in the images you posted.
Resident Evil 6 Leon is exactly the same as the one seen in Revelations 2 and Umbrella Corps. Like, completely identical. Might even be a straight model import, in regards to the face.
OG RE2 Leon is obviously going to look bad because... well, he's a PS1 character. No surprise there.
That leaves the wack movie versions (which are all just different shades of awful, sadly), and of course, RE2make Leon.
There's definitely consistency, but you act as though he's a different looking guy every single time. Not the case by a long shot.
You're not gonna get any closer than this by scanning real people's faces though. This is not a RE7 Chris situation. Both Leon and Claire look appropriate considering the technology used. Claire even looks her age, which she certainly did not in previous portrayals of the RE2 story.
[...]
Bad example. To the best of my knowledge his face is not based off scanning that of a real person. It's easier to keep a completely fictional polygon face consistent. And the leap between PS2-PS4 isn't that big. They could easily have kept working on the same base model and improved it over time. RE has gone from PS1 CGI to scanning real people's faces and everything in between. Expecting total consistency out of this is foolish and unrealistic.
Honest question: Why is so much importance placed on "borrowing" an actor's face? To my knowledge, Jordan Mcewen (model for Claire) won't be doing mocap, nor voicing the character.
All of Naughty Dog's characters for Uncharted and The Last of Us are completely fictional, video game constructs, not based on any particular actor's face. Regardless, they're exceptionally well-animated and believable. Facial scans don't seem mandatory for realism, especially not for legacy video game characters like Leon and Claire.
Half the discussion about Resident Evil is always nonsense shit about what the characters look like
It is and it's tiring to read. There's nothing wrong with the way these characters look. Leon is not meant to look like a badass in this game and Claire looks fine too.
Welp, guess it turns out it's something people take notice of and actually care about if it's half the discussion, then. Who would've thought?
In the past week, I've posted an LTTP thread for REmake, talked about RE5 Versus in the "RE6, we forgive you king" thread, posted RE6 impressions, partook in the community Discord + the past few pages of this very thread... none of it was concerning faces, character models, anything like that. Don't undermine valid discussion just because you personally don't see the point. Not like we're otherwise seeing an influx of activity at this moment, so I'm just shootin' the shit.
