RE7 was the same iirc so no real surprise. I think instead of pulling the key from inside the dead cop it was just on his body in the JPN version lol

This is probably why we will never get the cool player death animations from RE4 back.

REmake 2/3 and RE7 were heavily censored as well. Not a new thing.

RE4 was censored by CERO, that didn't stop us from getting all the gruesome deaths over here.

Then again, the Hunters decapitation kill was shown off in REmake pre-release uncensored only for it to be censored worldwide on release as well as how tame RE5 and 6 were, so it seems to be inconsistent.

I'm definitely not expecting the brutal game overs to return for RE4 remake, especially after how tame they were in 2 and 3 remake.

Japanese ratings are stricter on violence and nudity. It affects all games.

Yeah exactly they were all tame or censored in everything post RE4.
Its a damn shame. They were fun.

Really hate the way censorship works these days. Can't they just make "censoring options" like it was for Max Payne 1 for example where you could turn off blood etc. (which was of course very basic) but more advanced? So mature audience can play it let's say "normally"?

This seems par the course. I remember someone on Reddit showing screenshots of Witcher 3 and RDR2 in Japan and it's similar things.

"these days" have been almost 20 years now in Japan. That said, yes I wish they simply had options not just for RE in Japan but across all regions. That said Japan and its violence censorship is still an option as there is a "higher rated" version. Which is still slightly toned down oddly despite its deciption.

If they do that, then the game will be rated based on its most violent options. That won't do as it would probably affect sales. Having two different versions like what RE does is the best option.

Hopefully Sony don't just censor it in all regions like they did with DMCV.
Never knew DMCV was censored. Fuck Sony.

But it's weird, honestly. Why would they censor ass in DMCV, but in other games full nudity is allowed? How does this policy work?
what was censored?
I played it a bit on game pass, was it different on Xbox then?

It was patched shortly after release (it was the naked woman).

Couldn't they have used a different age rating or wouldn't that change anything?
Do japanese players have easy access to the (physical) uncensored import versions?

I live in Japan. Didn't realize my Last of Us 2 experience was less violent until I saw other people play it lol

There's also a scene in RE2R where you pull a cop from under the shutter. You expect the lower half of his body to be mutilated, but it's just covered in blood when you pull him through. Very weird moment haha

I just watched the japanese version of this RE 2 scene and my mind is blown. It's horrible lol

So does Japan censor their anime as well for gore locally or is it just the games rating board? Cause uh, yeah...plenty of extreme violence to go around with their anime.

It's not the same ratings board, but yes things do get censored. Like whenever an underage character is depicted smoking there's always a shadow over it so you can't see, and depending on the TV station some extreme gore is censored as well. Also nudity is much less prevalent these days.

For a first world country like Japan be this conservative its shocking really, i know its a cultural thing but its kinda funny since theu re the ones that come up with the most grotestic things and horror flicks.

And dont get me started on the porn..
