At least two spooked horses, one of which was covered in blood, have caused chaos this morning after getting loose and running through central London.

Photos showed two horses, with saddles, reins and bridle, racing through the streets in Aldwych. A witness reported that a soldier was injured during the incident after falling from one of the animals.

City of London Police said they had managed to bring two horses under control in Limehouse, east London, and were awaiting the army to collect them.

Big Bus Tours confirmed that a horse ran into one of its parked vehicles, causing the front windscreen to shatter.

"Fortunately, none of our team members were injured," a spokesman for the company said. "Our primary concern lies with the welfare of the riders and animals involved in the incident."

Buckingham Palace Road had been closed, as well as Victoria bus station. Witnesses said the animals were also seen running through Tower Bridge.
Bashir Aden, 48, a construction worker, told The Telegraph: "I saw a soldier falling down into the street after the horse ran into a car. One of my colleagues called the police.
"The man hit the floor hard, he was screaming in pain. You could see blood all over the parked car.

Damn, feel sad for the horses :(

Also: reminds of that one Dexter episode with the horses. Tho that was a little more gruesome.

Hoping for the best outcome for everyone and everything involved. That's definitely not something you see every day.

I should also admit that, when I saw the title, I immediately thought it was a publicity stunt for a movie or something.

I really hope it's not human blood. Is there report of any serious human injury?

To my knowledge, none so far. London Ambulance Service have confirmed four injured, but not noted severity. Could well include their riders, who if unseated might have fallen in a rough way.

But yeah, at least two vehicle collisions - one bus and one minibus

Witnesses also suggest one of the horses had a head injury. This currently from the BBC

Bonkers.

Hope the injuries to animal/people aren't serious.

Horses have such soulful eyes imo. Not that I trust them...

This could've been so much worse, there's a lot of school trips around that area and I dread to think what could've happened with one or two classes of kids in the way.

That photo is amazing though

Here y'all were watching the sea for dolphins when you should have been keeping an eye on the stables.

London is Bloodborne and this a Bloodborne boss.

The Sanguinary Equines or something similar.

Horses, especially runaway ones can be pretty scary when you realize how much bigger they are compared to the average person

"And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat upon him was Death, and Hell followed with him."

Plus he was covered in blood, so it was fucking metal.

When I first reas the title and story I was thinking it was some known planned publicity stunt or something. "Riderless" I thought.

Exactly what I was thinking as I started reading the headline and article. Aldwych is very Bloodborne sounding as well.

That photo is pretty crazy, feel horrible that the horse is obviously injured but man what a scene that must've been to see first hand.

I've worked with horses before and it can take so little to spook them (sometimes seemingly nothing to our human perspectives), and a spooked horse can be incredibly dangerous, both to itself and people around it.

Hopefully the horses and people injured aren't too seriously wounded, and make full recoveries. Must have been an incredibly scary situation for all involved.

I'm very glad that there are people out there that aren't familiar with what blood looks like in real life.

Lol I wish. I've bled enough throughout my life to know what it looks like, just suprised to see blood that intense of color and that much on animals hair, whatever happened to those horses or the creature the horses came in contact with must have happend very damn recent if it's not caked up and darkened yet.

I hope the horse recovers without anymore undue stress but that's a great pic in the OP.

It might look like there's a slight discrepancy here. Five horses ran loose, while only four soldiers fell from their saddles. This is because one soldier was responsible for two of the horses, the spokesman has said.
This is almost certainly not the case, but I'm choosing to interpret this as one soldier falling off a horse, then immediately getting on a different horse and falling off that one too.
