So EB Games posted this Specialist Edition of BO4

DdbrFiVUQAEnuOH.jpg

Standard collectors edition material right? But, no inclusion of a season pass. Matthew Harris, the guy who had the initial leaks for BO4 (no campaign, overwatch similarities) has said that they are shifting to a free MP map model, which would be great news

"Our sources claim that this is where we will see the most radical shift in the delivery of content. As opposed to players getting the usual four maps every couple of months they will receive a map, or in some cases two maps, every month."

This would be great news IMO. Paid maps fragment communities. Having everyone having every map without having to buy them is very good. He says Zombies will have a season pass however.

Didn't see a thread about this.

If true they wont lose anything. They'll still make mad money from the zombies pass

Does this mean PS4 owners get newer maps like a month early now or something or would it be 1:1 with other versions

This is great if true and BO4 will also include 3 Zombie maps on disc day one too though not free

I would support the Zombie pass if it meant for future CODs aswell no more Season Pass and fragmentation finally, free MP maps is the way to go. They still have MTX (COD Points) so surely free maps down the line is a thing

I suspect this is happening because they've seen a sharp decline in season pass purchases in the last two COD games.

As someone playing on PC this is pretty cool. Before you were forced to buy all of the zombies maps or none at all, and the Season Pass maps were basically useless because there wasn't enough people with the pass to be able to find lobbies that used them. They're still definitely going to make bank off the Zombies DLC so I doubt this will end up being a net negative.

Probably the best route to go, to be fair. Charge for zombies and then let the MP maps be free and don't split the playerbase.

This is a good idea. I bought the 1st DLC maps for Advanced Warfare but not enough people were on them consistently to generate a lobby of players because it fragmented the gaming base. After that I never bought another map pack or COD. I might jump back in if this rumor is true.

If they can stick to giving a map a month that's not bad. Still, fear we will get far less maps overall which would suck.

I mean didn't the last COD have lootboxes? Wouldn't suprise me if they saw how succesful they were and decided it wasn't beneficial to keep selling Map Packs. I assume Batte Royale mode and MP will both have lootboxes, probably gonna make bank.

This would sound good to me if CoD was a franchise that was supposed to go a couple of years without a new entry but not so much when the game gets outright replaced year after year. Then again, when I did still buy CoD games, I never bought the season passes because I've heard too many times it slows down matchmaking the more DLC you have on top of having bought expensive DLC and not enough people to populate the maps later. I'm actually on the fence with this one rather than a solid "no" compared to the last few years though.

This is great news if true. DLC maps appearing in normal rotation has been a massive issue in the last few years.

Its the least they could do after dropping the campaign. Seems like a fair deal.

There's no 3 free maps.

This is nice improvement from the previous model they used, hopefully the PC community will stick around with a constant stream of new maps to play. I hope to see dedicated servers and mod tools day one too!

It's a good move but you just know loot box content will be off the scale. It was already pretty bad in CoD now it's no doubt gonna be much worse.

Sums up the state of gaming when on disc content is considered "free maps" lmao

Thank god. Sticking the zombie map stick with multiplayer maps was a bad idea yet I am curious about the prices of MP maps and Zombie map

'Bout freaking time. Paying for maps almost feels archaic in this day and age.

They need to take a page out of Fortnites book

No loot crates for guns, skins, or xp bonuses.

Just cosmetics ONLY

My guess is they are waiting to see Battlefield does before announcing. Battlefield may remove map packs since thats what they did with Battlefront.

Hopefully this is true , it was always annoying how DLC maps become ghost towns after a while, this will keep the player base active for longer.

Where's the money coming from besides a zombies season pass? I'm guessing they'll have microtransactions, which hopefully are only cosmetic.
