MOSCOW, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Russia's financial monitoring agency, Rosfinmonitoring, has added U.S. tech giant Meta Platforms Inc. (META.O) to its list of "terrorists and extremists", the Interfax news agency reported on Tuesday.

A Moscow court in June rejected an appeal by Meta after it was found guilty of "extremist activity" in Russia in March. In court, Meta's lawyer at the time said Meta was not carrying out extremist activity and was against Russophobia.

good thing Meta has you to speak up for em. keep up the good work!
Equating them with terrorists is insane. They're a platform which has made tons of mistakes not wantonly killing people for political ends.

It's not about speaking up for them it's how badly peoples brains are broken that words have no meaning anymore. Just quick unthinking hot takes (albeit facebook largely played a part in this)

It's not about speaking up for Meta. It's about Putin castigating one of the most prevalent resources to share information. Russia never had a problem with MEta when they were using it to push misinformation, but now that people are showing Russia's weakness, it has to go.

Facebook has indeed enabled genocide, political coverups by violent tyrants, is a well-established arm of unconstitutional surveillance against both Americans and foreign people around the world in the interests of political goals, and much more. Maybe you just aren't aware, or this does not meet the arbitrary level of wanton-ness to your personal definition of extremism/terrorism, but it's not really insane to think of them this way. There is a reason so many of us refuse to support them or their products.

Like a poster above said, Russia is clearly spinning things for the wrong reasons, but they aren't exactly wrong about Facebook being evil

Facebook/Meta has been a plague on the internet and Putin has been a plague on mankind. A good deed is a good deed, but I'll never respect or trust that company.

I thought it was somewhat common knowledge on how Facebook is complicit in various genocides (UN even called them out for Myanmar ) because it makes them money.

Obviously they're not literally terrorists and nobody believes Russia is doing that for any good reason, but they deserve harsher treatment from governments. Profiting from genocide isn't just a mistake

Facebook has very much been a tool and somewhat complicit in genocide, yes:

Facebook’s meta complicity in the Rohingya genocide - ABC Religion & Ethics

Facebook is facing twin legal actions for its instrumental role in accelerating racial violence and genocide against the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar over the past decade. Filings in California and London present an extraordinary story of recklessness, enablement, and negligence. This...

Most on the nose article I could find, but there's plenty out there on Myanmar specifically.

I can't find it now but the Bellingcat stuff on Myanmar is eye opening.
