To follow up on the dim sum: I ended up going to Din Tai Fung with a few people. There were four of us and we ordered six items from the menu of different varieties. It was...fine? I didn't think anything was particularly lights out, it was all just fine. My favorites were this dumpling bowl thing in a special spicy sauce and the spicy soup. Cost was around $20/person, not bad for a nicer meal (lunch). I don't know that I'd go out of my way to eat there again, but that's a YMMV thing. I think the flavors are a bit blander than I'm used to, growing up in a Japanese household with curry, katsu, omurice, etc. Thanks all for the recommendations, I am glad I tried it!
