Obviously he's been associated with some controversy in the past. Generally speaking, a lot of people in the press and enthusiast gamers don't really like him for various reasons:

Deflecting issues. Blaming others. (Aliens Colonial Marines / SEGA)
Lying.
Go after members of the press (Jim Sterling) - also calling him fat
Telling journalists "to do their jobs"
Accusations of Owning pornographic content of underage girls. Pitchford claiming his USB was filled with "barely legal" content. Hmkay....
Accusations of embezzlement and fraud.
and then there is this...

Update:
And now his reasoning of why Steam is an evil monopoly and how the Epic Games store is the savior to PC Gaming.

As the CEO of Gearbox, the developer of Borderlands 3, I'm curious to see if they don't want him being on the front for Borderlands 3. Like he was for the first two main entries. Borderlands is generally a well liked series, with a lot of fans on this forum. But also said fans really don't like this guy, and it's always just seems unfair when you have a lot of people working hard on this game under a CEO who just kind of ruins it for everyone. I'm not exactly sure what the benefit of having PItchford be the face of the franchise exactly does, but it seems -at least in certain circles- it provides no benefit, but only harm.

Him calling out PAX for the technical difficulties during the showcase was cringe AF.

99% of people buying Borderlands 3 will have no idea about the Pitchford allegations, or who the fuck Randy Pitchford is in general

Yes, he should distance himself from the entire industry tbh. But its not gonna happen unfortunately.

The only game you'll see him distance himself from is Battleborn

No. I didn't. I loved Borderlands 1 and I'm ready to jump back in. So I'm trying to go on gameplay blackout for BL3. Can they not read the writing on the wall? Why not have the lead game designer come out and be the face of Borderlands 3?
You thought that reply was about you?

... Weird.

But anyway, Randy should maybe distance himself a bit, yeah. Will that happen? Not a chance.

Given the allegations in the currently ongoing(?) lawsuit, and even just his general reputation, I think he should.

I think the stream today made it fairly clear that that's not going to happen though.

No because I want to see him tweeting about 'reports' of a subreddit for rule 34 with Borderlands 3 characters.

Can't wait for the report a year from now about RoR2 losing all their money to BL3

Yeah even beyond the porn/child porn/sex theater in his mansion for child porn thing, he's also facing embezzlement accusations in the millions, and there's the Aliens embezzlement rumor. But this is gaming, so people won't really care. People have actively defended worse.

The casual audience won't know about his antics and the people that are informed know that he's the CEO of the company that makes the game so him distancing himself really wouldn't mean anything

I think Randy should just stop being the figure head for Gearbox and their reputation would suddenly be way better.

What's going on with that lawsuit that alleged he owned child porn and would throw underage sex parties? Those are some serious allegations and I don't want to touch anything Gearbox with a 50-ft pole.

But what does BL3 'gain' by having him in the forefront?

In addition to the serious accusations against him going on now, the members of the press don't like him, at all.

No one outside of this forum cares. He's not going anywhere.

Shit, even here most people don't care. It's just a handful of people who always bring it up in every Gearbox game's thread.

A lot of people in the entertainment industry would be out of their job after stories like Pitchford's. But everyone seems to not care in his case. I'm interested in BL3 but hesitant to buy it because of everything Pitchford.
