I was just browsing Steam when I found an interesting game named "Imprisoned Queen" in the newly releases tab. Not going to link to it.

It's literally a game where you can rape a prisoner and the presentation doesn't even hide it :
This Game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work . The game contains Nudity or Sexual Content, Frequent Violence, sexual assault, non-consensual sex, drug abuse, self-harm, General Mature Content.
All characters are over the age of 20.

I know that hentai or sex games are now allowed on steam and I don't really mind as long as it's not gross, but this ? yikes.
And their next game to be released in november is also a game where you can rape a prisoner.

Report it and it will be removed in a few days.

Steam doesn't have any kind of filter at the beginning, anyone with 100$ can submit anything.

You have to report the games, they don't have people actually checking all the games submitted, it's automated.

I can understand that, but the game was released friday not today, they don't moderate what is releasing in their platform even after 5 days ? It's literally in the newly releases tab, it's not hidden.
Previous games from the same devs are still available on steam

Quite amazed this has made it through Steam's filters to be honest

It's hidden unless you have view adult content enabled in your account settings.

They don't moderate the store, not after 5 days or 5 years. Only if a game gets many complaints or press. But not by default.

If you don't report, they don't manually moderate or check the content, it's dumb but this is how they work at Valve.

while you are all at it, report their next game too, Natsuki's life in Prison, it looks to be exactly the same rape simulator with different art.

Even ignoring the non-consensual sex, I'm still not used to Steam having straight up porn games. Felt weird seeing that store page.

Wait, there's no approval process at all for Steam? What's to stop someone from loading a virus into an .exe and selling it for 49 cents?

100$ entry free, that's it.

(I mean, it wouldn't last much and maybe they do have an internal antivirus check in their deployment pipelines, but nothing more)

Despite what people are saying here, there is actually a review process that isn't automated (though done by an outside company than Valve themselves), but its less about the games themselves which they lead to user automation. Basically, they check for viruses, that the game launches, the game is what the store page says it is, has the features on Steam you say it does, doesn't break any immediately notable laws, and if any violent, gore, sexual, nudity or adult content you properly label it internally and on the store page (this part is mostly audience moderated, but if you're caught selling such content without properly labeling it, you're banned from selling on Steam).

Saying this as a guy who's released several games over the last 7 years on Steam, anyone claiming there is zero review process is spreading misinformation, but its more for technical checking than content approval. Also when you upload onto Steam's servers there's an auto-virus scan and launch check of every file uploaded or updated.

Steam does moderate the store for R18 content (you can ask VN devs about it with their weird standards), but it mostly applies to younger looking characters and real life (or metahumans) representation, basically stuff that could actually get them sued. Which is still very weird how the allow some very very cuestionable content but then not another more "normal" one.

Pretty sure for R18 content they also check the kind of R18 content it has... hence why some VN devs are not allowed or some games have not been allowed. It is just very weirdly implemented with some weird boundaries.

There was at least one high profile game that installed a rootkit as a part of an update (and Steam did nothing about it). Thankfully that particular developer rolled back the update when the press called them out on it, but Valve themselves don't seem to do a lot of quality control.

There are also games on Steam that trigger an antivirus warning when launched. This one in particular is almost certainly a false positive, but it's not like Valve could tell that when they approved it.

it has it's issues and all but shit like this really makes me appreciate that EGS actually has some curation and you don't get trash like this

It's really weird that some LGBTQIA+ games have trouble even releasing on Steam while literal rape games don't. Valve needs to get its shit together.

Why did you think they weren't allowed? There are publishers that have been putting out games like that for years that haven't faced any issues.

Since I don't have steam on this laptop, was curious and looked it up. There's a snippet on youtube.

Not even my worst thoughts about the subject of rape in a game could have prepared me for that fucking dialogue. WTF.

It's interesting people here don't know that Steam/Valve doesn't moderate shit by themselves. Hence, we've been banging this drum about demanding them to moderate more. Why do you think there are plenty of bigots on the platform? But then you had a lot of people on this forum saying it's impossible and to let it be the wild west. They would prefer users or developers to sort it out themselves rather than do anything up front. Anyway, reported.

www.resetera.com

Steam has a right-wing extremism/racism problem on their discussion forums that needs to be addressed.

Specifically under the DEATHLOOP discussion threads I'm seeing tons of hate against people of color. People boycotting the game because it is "WOKE" and has a black protagonist. I...cannot believe that nobody at valve has tried to combat against this...

I mean, no.

It was probably in set of another 300 games that were uploaded on friday. If it's never reported, then it just stays up there. That's how Steam has been for years.

I assume that you disabled the adult content filter for a reason, but there are hundreds if not thousands of titles on Steam that are as graphic and extreme if not more. Drawing a line for what is "gross" and evaluating the morality or ethics of thousands of pornographic games isn't realistic.

Is that how you feel about rape games? Do you think it's not possible to define them as gross?

Hasn't steam been ok with them for a while now? I remember I turned off the adult filter to steam, and my god. It was horrible. I turned it back on almost instantly.

I didn't even know this was a thing till today, oh my god.

The fact that I have been getting unknowingly shielded from a tsunami of trash like that is mindblowing.
Ignorance truly is bliss. Keep up the good work Steam filter.

I reported it as well, honestly it's pretty shameful what people get away with putting on Steam lately. It's even worse when they throw it in my face despite changing my preferences to not show me that kind of stuff and it being reset a few times now...

I think drawing the line at shit that includes rape is pretty realistic and easy to enforce.
