With 2020 almost here, and is here for some already, I've suddenly started thinking about this tonight. It was pretty apparent that 90s nostalgia ws running really rampant through the 2010s, so it's very likely, esecially in the next couple of years, that we're going to start hearing the 2000s babies waxing poetic about their childhood.

So, what do you think is going to get the good old Nostalgia Second Wind?

Can I start wearing cargo shorts outside again?

80's nostalgia felt like it had more presensce than 90's nostalgia this decade. 90's nostalgia feels more recent tbh.

i hope 2000's nostalgia brings back customizable social media pages like og myspace themes

oh it's already happening. I'm seeing a ton of nostalgia for early 2000's R&B music.

Also true. All the SpongeBob, Raimi and Prequel memes.

Nah, culture has been moving at glacial speed since Y2K. Look at the period from 1975 to 1995 for example. Then look at 2000 to 2020.

I'm already seeing a ton of nostalgia for music from that timeframe. Especially the high profile "emo" groups like My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday.

The 90s was the last decade with any defined edges to it. Everything since has been one big smear because of the internet making all previous information readily available to all. And regardless of age, we're all experiencing and absorbing the same shit.

Honestly I just hear '00's babies crowing about 90's shit like they lived through it so it's a bit of a mystery. Even the kids born from 95 onward act like they "grew" up in the 90's - like exactly what part of the 90s do you remember lol

This is so true as someone who grew up in the 80's/90's. The internet definitely changed and smeared the lines of nostalgia when cell phones dropped.

I'd argue you're underestimating how much modern social media defines this decade. Vine/TikTok alone will probably be a huge part of the eventual 2010s nostalgia.

Isn't most Spongebob meme stuff nostalgia for the early 2000s? Really everything is from pre-2004.

I think we're already seeing it. Just look a Shrek, Prequelmemes, Spongebob's ubiquity on meme culture etcera.

It's here already.

On the internet, EARLY 2000s nostalgia already happened around 2015-2018. During that time people were making memes about stuff like Spy kids, skater punk, purple ketchup, Y2K aesthetic, and Shrek, and said how they missed the early 2000s, or that it was better than the rest of the 21st century.

Now in 2018-2019, the new wave of Zoomer nostalgia for LATE 00s-early 10s things like Party rock anthem, iCarly, Minecraft, Black Ops 2, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Cool math games has already swept over the internet.

But weirdly, nostalgia cycles seem to move faster on the Internet compared to other media, maybe because the Internet skewers younger than movie producers.
People are being nostalgic for things that were 8 years ago? Wtf?

This being a gaming forum, I think it should be pretty apparent. There is so much nostalgia already for the PS2/Xbox/GCN generation. Remakes, spiritual sequels, kickstarter campaigns, etc

Fuck off

This, I was born in 1985, I consider myself a 90's kid.

A 90's kids is born IMO in the mid 80's, lived through the entirety of the 90's and able to remember it all clearly. Someone born in 95 would barely be able to recall until anything of their first four years due to how human memory works.
