I think I like the idea of sticks, more than sticks or rather more than how she was implimented

The writing gets a little better over time but not much. To try keep it short sonic boom has two main issues, wanting to be inline with the main sonic franchise and also not be that and thus having characters who are clearly based on other versions of themselves ( knuckles and shadow ) who end up kind of bad most of the time because the characters don't have like the context/backstory those two have so they come off like weird...clones of the real characters spouting likes for no reason. Issue number two, which combines with issue number one in a nice mess is the writing's staff's inability to just write stories. Stories in the show will often make fun of itself or go through round about bullshit ways to tell a story instead of telling an actual story. They feel like they need throw jokes in places when in reality, lets say in the hypothetical cases of Knuckles and Shadow having an episode kind of just establishing who they are and what they are about and not trying to shove jokes everywhere might would have benefited the show greatly.
A lot of people complain that the people who hate sonic boom only want action sonic and don't like the funny buisness. And i'm sure there are some people like that, and they have a right to their opinion. But i'm not... I don't mind if you make a jokey sonic show, I mean I might mind now because... i'm a bit tired of it. But at the time... sure fuck it sounds fun. I just wanted them to actually sort of commit to these being whole different versions of the characters. Instead of the characters having noting to work with because they need to be similar to the other versions. For Sonic, Eggman, Tails and amy that works because their " back stories are so simple you can kinda warp it into whatever" but knuckles and shadow's behavior have mitigating factors outside of themselves that cause of they are. And to be honest it happens with the characters that work, particuarly for Sonic and Amy, I kinda wish sonic was more of a dick. I kind of feel there are plenty of plots in the show that sort of reel back because sonic needs to be a hero, because normal sonic is a hero. I wouldn't mind this version being kind of a dick more often, and it works with his personality and there are plenty of times where amy kind of seems like she would work better as a sisterly character in the show instead of occasional romantic interest in their interactions, but they have to be like old amy so yeah.
So you have a show with people writing who don't want to or don't care to or actually can't ( because it was leaked out that apparently sega restricted giving characters back story and more shit in the rise of lyric development especially sonic ) actually write stories that establishes these characters to make the humor actually work to endear us to these people. And because of that the characters just come off as these were empty husks that vaguely look like lanky sonic characters with sports tape spouting likes about health care that are supposed to be funny I guess.
And I don't want indepth lore, something that fits ya know? My friend saw shadow saw his design and went " His gear looks clean, what if he was some spoiled rich bratty kid like batman with dead parents and he's pompous dick because of it " bam have a short episode about that, kind of have a sad part, its still generally funny and endears us to the character. But they don't this, they don't do this for... anyone, they are supposed to be just vaguely reminiscent of characters we know, but just enough so when people actually criticize the quality of the writing ( or lack their of in some cases ) , you can break out the excuse " well they aren't the same characters" instead of actually looking at why the writing in the show and its set up isn't great in general
I didn't want world class writing ,but cartoons don't exist in a vaccume and cartoons, especially on cartoon network have gotten particularly good at telling character stories. I think speaks to how, simple the concept is that there is another show about technicolor animals in a group going on adventures that do this all the time, even with background people and it works and endears them to the characters and increases merch sales every time they do it. So not only is it bad for writing, its bad for business.
So I guess that's my peice on sonic boom I guess, its okish, you can get a few chuckles. But that's all you will get, then the question is " why am I still watching this "
