Hardware:

- Sony shipped 6.3m PS5s in Q4 FY22:
  • Significant YoY growth: 215% YoY VS 2m units in Q4 FY21.
  • Slight QoQ decrease: 4.17% QoQ VS 7.1m units in Q3 FY22.
- Record-breaking Consoles shipments in Q4 for SIE. (Highest amount of consoles shipped in Calendar Year Q1 by any Platform Holder to my knowledge)!
- Sony shipped 19.1m PS5s in FY22, beating their FY target/forecast of 19m PS5s!!
- 38.4m PS5s shipped since launch VS 40m PS4s in the same Timeframe. Launch aligned, PS5 is currently lagging behind PS4 by 1.6m Units.

Network Services and PlayStation Plus:

PlayStation Plus Subscribers: 47.4m
  • Slight 2.16% QoQ increase (Up from 46.4m in Q3 FY22)
  • Flat YoY (47.4m in Q4 FY21)

This decrease is probably due to promotional activities to retain and attract new subscribers!

Everything leads me to believe that Plus has reached its ceiling!

Haha what the fuck at that unit graph. Really puts that amazing Q4 in perspective. It's almost as much as during the holiday quarter.

So to put it in perspective.

How much would the PS5 need to sell in the next Financial Quarter to pass the PS4 at the equivalent time frame?

You can dislike Jim Ryan as a person but as far as business goes, he knows what he is doing.

Holy shit. a 60% increase in Revenue AND gaming Revenue being 8 billion dollars in ONE quarter alone that is not Oct-Dec is absolutely crazy.

Just to put some context to this Number. Nintendos gaming revenue for the whole year of 2021 was 8 Billion. The whole year. ( To put some more context, Nintendos profit margin is absolutely crazy, they probably make more profit in one quarter than Playstation does in a year )

Also Hardware being more than 30% of the Revenue is also unprecedented.

What could be the notable reason for -55% yoy in terms of operating profit for Q4?

Norway but living in France
Add-on-Content representing 24% of revenue VS 23% from total game sales (digital + physical).
edit: Removed some Activision merger talks, best reserved for other thread.

Oh... Well, damn, I feel like that's possible??? Unless there is like an absolute massive drop off. Which maybe!

Though hey... could be good time to do a Showcase!

Sony's already said they expect the PS5 sales curve to surpass the PS4's sales curve this FY. At the rate they're going, it's entirely possible that will happen this quarter.

And yup, we're only a few weeks away from a Showcase, according to the data Grubb has provided. Somewhere in the region of 4-5 weeks.

Do we know what "others" consist of?
Because it has a pretty big increase compared to previous Q4's

They're forecasting a shipment of 25 million next year, so they'd be up by about 3.2 million at the end of March 2024 if they hit it

When was the last time a thread on Sony/PlayStation's financials did not have the words "Biggest" or "Best" ever? It seems it's just not letting up anytime soon. Well deserved, though, as they are killing it with their products. Not only on the PlayStation side of the business either.

Add-on-Content representing 24% of revenue VS 23% from total game sales (digital + physical).

Microsoft wanted to keep 100% of Add-on-Content revenue for Call of Duty (leaving 0% for Sony which under normal circumstances would be 30%) for their proposed 10 year agreement, Sony saying No to that was the only possible outcome for something so silly.

There is zero proof of that and is obviously not something they offered Sony lmao

Will we get to know true figures of how well Psvr2 has sold plus games since launch? With these results?

I think they're going to obfuscate the sales numbers of PSVR2 a bit, because it's not quite the same success story as the PS5.

I do still believe that being the only console on the market that comes with the option to be a VR console is still a worthwhile endeavour, regardless of how profitable PSVR2 itself is.

Don't want to derail this thread (it was brought up in Activision thread) but it can be read from this tweet / CMA report: https://twitter.com/stephentotilo/status/1651686320568168459?t=z9hM0VkTBrj6Z-hUVeGNHw&s=19

They weren't even offering Sony a cloud deal. You think Sony got the same offer as some small player as Boosteroid, which is quite different than a main console manufacturer?

C'mon, that clearly doesn't make an ounce of sense once you take a second to think about it.

85B $ revenue, 7B $ net profit.

And yet some people here think they can't buy a middle sized publisher because they were broke in 2010… :-)
