Man, every thread with the word Sony be a shit-show now?

I don't know who their COO is but that dude or dudette deserves major props, more forward-thinking than most major countries and economies.

They've been handling this pretty well to be fair, from the quick reaction in terms of canceling conferences to protect their employees, as well as paying their workers regardless of their ability for remote work and now this.

It really makes you think how people were giving them shit for cancelling their PAX appearance even to the point of saying they don't have anything to show or they're hiding something. Good to see a corporation act humane for once

Hot damn, even discussions about helping others during a crysis we still get platform wars. Bill and Melinda have been donating billions over the years for various causes.

Which will never be enough for many people because he just has even more money. Simple Google search shows they've donated 36 billion as of 2018. Incoming defending billionaires.

Great by Sony, especially given they have the imaging tech as well that the medical industry benefits from. Hope they continue to make smart and proactive decisions with their own employees and contractors going forward as well. Savings lives > short-term gains.

Sony has been superb in how they've carried themselves during this pandemic. With their pro-activeness in pulling out of events for employee safety, as well enabling their employees and contractors to work from home and getting resources they need.

This $100 million gesture is amazing. That's no small amount.

Eh, how is this released to gaming though?

Sony are market leaders for this generation of gaming, so it's good to see them being at the forefront to help people during the current global health crisis? Also:

Furthermore, in terms of the creative community such as music, pictures, games and animation, together with its group companies engaged in the entertainment industry, Sony will seek ways to support up-and-coming creators, artists and all those in professions supporting the industry, who have been impacted by the cancellation or postponement of concerts and live events, or the shutting down of film and television productions.

Very well done by Sony. They reacted really quick (canceling their PAX and GDC appearance early) even tho people gave them shit for it.

Then this:
www.resetera.com

NA/EU PlayStation Employees will continue to work from home until at least April 30th, workers paid regardless if they can do remote work or not.

Didn't see a thread on this but good news. And in another tweet says as far as he knows it extends to the WWS teams as well.

And now this:
www.sony.net

Sony Establishes $100 Million COVID-19 Global Relief Fund

Tokyo, Japan - Sony Corporation today announced the establishment of the “Sony Global Relief Fund for COVID-19,” a 100 million US dollar fund to support those around the world affected by the COVID-19 virus.

They are handling this "world crisis" the best they can. Just awesome.

Sony has somehow been constantly ahead of the curve in this, and their response is what more companies should aspire to.

Some of the posts in that thread absolutely did not age well.

Might be a fever based reaction but this is the kind of thing that might get me to jump in day 1 on PS5.

True, but I've heard the PS4/Pro's CPU isn't that good for that sort of thing, at least compared to the PS3.

It might not be relatively as good, but in absolute terms the Pro especially is much more powerful than PS3. And in this kind of use numbers matter a lot too, and there are already more PS4s out there than there ever were PS3s.

PS5 will bring a power bump, but the architecture will be much closer to PS4 than PS3, and the install base will start from zero. It will take some time before the PS5 install base can exceed the distributed computing power of the PS4 install base, even with more powerful hardware.
