Simon is a good get, even if this is a badly kept secret. Still, Smash has had Link, Samus, Pit and Ice Climbers as Legacy NES reps for a while and got Mega Man, Little Mac, and Duck Hunt for 3DS/Wii U. Belmont feels like he should have been in this a long time ago knowing how close Castlevania's roots come from the NES.
I'm hoping they use the design from the infamous Castlevania II Nintendo Power cover. At least as an alt costume.
Fun fact: Nintendo received a ton of complaints from parents about the cover giving their children nightmares.
Sakurai has been pretty faithful about stuff like that. See: Pac-Man.
Don't disagree with you that Trevor would be fun to have, but from a marketing perspective Simon is the more recognizable name of the two. He is always been the go-to character for Castlevania crossovers.
But no way they are not doing other Belmont (and Alucard) colors for him.
I think Banjo could be DLC. I hope we get a Minecraft stage because that would honestly be really cool.
If we get a Microsoft character is want master chief more. Ideally both, we have 2 capcom, Sega and now konami characters

I actually really do wonder why there hasn't been any Tales representation. Some of the game's staff is the same and most of those games have a battle system with similarities to Smash.

Simon was the protagonist of the first Castlevania. Gives him a leg up on other Castlevania protagonists.
(And before anyone mentions Cloud, I think we can all agree Cloud is a pretty special case.)
