Or an umbrella. The Mary Poppins bit is fine, if I had the skills to do a fan edit, maybe the only change I would add is a more obvious force force field effect around her protecting her from space.
There's nothing that can save Phasma from fighting with a chrome toothpick and going out like a chump, right?
Exactly what I was thinking, lol. So many nitpicky and passive-aggressive changes that seem meant to spite Rian Johnson's authorship. I'm so glad fans like this aren't in charge of the franchise.
The whole list is full of 'but why doe" but this one is especially, uh, why:
"⁃ Removed Rey's triple-TIE combo shot, with the Falcon's involvement in the battle being first revealed with its shadow sweeping by and a single TIE being shot down"
That makes no sense because you just see the ties exploded, have no idea what did that and THEN you see the shadow. The shadow is already the intro.Initially I thought this was to "nerf" Rey, but it sounds like it might just be for a cool intro shot with the Falcon.

Would Finn's sacrifice even matter though? His guns were melted so he was riding on his rusty old ship being able to destroy the cannon by crashing into it. His plan was shortsighted and likely driven not by the desire to save the Rebellion, but rather to deal a blow to the First Order which he hates. The end line from Rose is deeply stupid though, when Holdo, minutes earlier, sacrified her life to save all of theirs (and minutes before Luke does just that), and of course in the background of her saying that, as she forces a kiss on Finn, the 12 remaining members of the Resistance are potentially burned to a crisp as the Ram fires on the base .
It's literally a farce imo.
I think Phasma is coming back on some Super Shredder type shit and she's going to kill someone importantFinn could have developed a dynamic with his former tormentor that made his final battle with her mean something, make us feel something. Finn should have got his ass beat by Phasma on Takodana instead of Lieutenant TRAITOR! Then he trains some more or has some learning experiences before his fight in TLJ where he defeats Phasma. Instead the director says Fuck Phasma. She's sold enough toys and fuck JJ Abrams joke characters I'm not going to rehab this one.
Aw hell naw!
⁃ Removed the detail from Kylo Ren that Rey's parents are buried in the Jakku desert, as this seems at odds with the vision we saw in The Force Awakens.
⁃ Abbreviated Finn's suicide run, so that the audience hasn't had enough time to accept it and get totally on board with it (toward the end of a film that relishes jerking its audience around)
⁃ After Rose saves Finn, removed her line about not "fighting what we hate" and "saving what we love."
I don't get these changes.
I hated the movie, and I'm not white.Only the scream of white alpha masculinity being violated or something.
The caretakers are removed :/
So you just want all the cute alien shit out of the movie, huh?
Some Star Wars fans don't actually want Star Wars... they want Star Trek. There's your 100% serious human drama in space, people. No cute shit to bother you.
I honestly have no idea what you're talking about in the context of this thread. This is a fan edit in line with previous fan edits for the prequel trilogies.Ah then by extrapolation there was no mysoginist or racist organized backlash against the movie. I must have dreamed it all.
Oh there is no doubt those people existed. They're the loudest assholes right now as well and I want no part of them. What is annoying is the blanket idea that they're the only people that had an issue or dislike for The Last Jedi. That's something that has always bothered me from day one. I'm a black guy and I've had issues with this film and none of them have to do with Rey or Rose. I happen to like both of them. Yet time and time again my thoughts on this film and others that don't fit in with the racist assholes seem to be dismissed and ignored or you're wrongly assumed to be one them. The belief seems to be only those people are the ones with the problems and are complaining and everyone else is just fine with the film. There seems to be this push that there are no other groups that had/have issues with this damn film and maybe for other reasons. It's not a black/white issue and it pisses me off more and more.Ah then by extrapolation there was no mysoginist or racist organized backlash against the movie. I must have dreamed it all.
You might as well be! I mean you hated the movie! How could you!?Just kidding I hated it too and I'm not white either but the apologists have to keep propagating this narrative.
Those films didn't have hardcore apologists/defenders.There was one for the prequels. No one had any issue with those.
Yes they did. They still do.
⁃ Removed Luke's line to R2, "Nothing can make me change my mind."
This sounds absolutely awful.
Fan edits are almost always terrible.
Its a little different when you're promoting a pirated edit of a movie that came out almost 20 years ago vs one that got a blu ray release 3 months ago. There was one for the prequels. No one had any issue with those.
Some of these sound so oddly specific.
Disagree completely about Rey's parents line being cut. Dude, what's this fetish with SW fans and bloodlines? Why can't Rey not be the messiah from a skywalker or solo or whatever shitty bloodline they created?
This is so weird.

Oh my GOD you guys, stop! The movie has issues but if it's not harassing actresses, it's making fan edits removing women, it's fans requesting through campaigns a full remake, its fans review bombing the movie, or its fans making a second fan edit. This got old fast. Move on already.
The OP is not about any of those things. You're listing four awful things that happened and then conflating it with the fifth, which is a fan edit of legitimate interest to many.
Why are people endlessly trying to conflate the toxic, politicized sub-section of the fandom's reaction with legitimate criticism? Is this movie beyond criticism now? This is a discussion forum.
The OP is about a talented group of community editors who have been doing this for nearly two decades. It's not about beating up on actresses, or 4chan kids being triggered by purple hair.
You harped on and on about how people would defend the last jedi no matter what it was yet deny that there's a group that staunchly defends the heaping piles of shit that is the prequel trilogy?
