People here always seems to enjoy these, so here's a place to share and discover lesser-know, underrated, hidden gems during this year's Steam Summer Sale

Main thread over here

I'll start off with some recommendations. (Wi-fi's out for me, so I'll add links and details later)

The Mind's Eclipse - $4.99
Dark sci-fi point-n-click reminiscent to SOMA and System Shock

Drifting Lands - $9.49
A sidescrolling SHMUP with an ARPG approach to skills and equipment

Orbital Racer - $7.49
A sci-fi arcade/simulation racing game with a focus on zero gravity physics

Tower of Time - $19.99
A CRPG with clever-designed real-time tactical combat focused on controlling and dividing incoming enemy

Push Pipe Paradise - $5.99
A smart puzzler that I'd describe as 2018's Stephen's Sausage Roll due to its fiendishly challenging pipe-pushing mechanics

Cypher - $3.74
A unique first person cryptography puzzler from the creator of Hexcells

Oneshot - $5.99
RPGMaker puzzle/adventure game with over 7000 reviews, 98% positive. Cute and charming main character, well-constructed metalinguistic puzzles and story (you are a different entity than the character you control). One of the best games of its kind.

Bleed 2 - $5.99 (less if you have Bleed or buy the bundle, which is also recommended)

2D-action game with a time-slowing mechanic and the ability to reflect bullets. Well-designed bosses and enemies, fast-paced combat, a welcoming atmosphere that oozes fun, and a variety of modes which makes it pretty replayable.

Alpha Protocol is dirt cheap. It has that Obsidian polish we all know and love, but the dialogue/choice and consequence system is one of the best in gaming. Not exactly a hidden gem but a lot of people missed it.

Great PnC game with a Del Toro-like horror story.

Heat Signature? Nah, never heard of it.

I hope you feel ashamed for not playing this game sooner.

Essentially a modern Marble Madness/Hamster Ball. Ive been playing through it recently and have been having a great time with it.

One of my favorite games right now. Its by the creators of the Gmod Tower and Cinema gamemodes. I backed it on IndieGogo and have 200 hours in it and enjoyed all the time I spent with it. Its a mix of a bunch of different games like Minigolf, Monkey Ball, and Timesplitters Infection. There's also a casino with poker, video black jack, and slots, and a hub area with more minigames and stores and condo's you can fully decorate.

Its a shame that Golf With Your Friends ripped off the Minigolf and got all the attention.

Aarklash: Legacy.

Nice RPG- lite / tactical combat game with a real time with pause system where you have to control your positioning and cooldowns, pretty nice and 90% discount right now!

Stephens Sausage Roll is one of the best designed puzzle games out there. It'll make you feel like an idiot but it's one of the most satisfying puzzle games I've played. The depth that the core mechanic has and how they reveal it over the course of the game is crazy.

How similar is this to Marble Blast Ultra?

Its pretty similar, But its top down and isn't as fast paced as Marble Blast, There's also no jumping or boosting like there is in Marble Blast. If you're looking for something more similar to MB, You can get Marble Skies which is 50% off right now.

The games soundtrack was done by HOME which is also a huge plus.

Roguelite top down action with a future twist and a LOT of guns. It's got online co-op as well, which is a nice rarity for indie titles.

I haven't played it yet, but I heard some really good things about it. It's sort of like a slice of life with beat-em-up elements reminiscent of Yakuza and River City Ransom.

Slay the Spire is a Card Game mixed with a Roguelike. You pick one of 3 classes and dive into a dungeon where after each battle you gain a new card for your deck and as you progress through the dungeon you obtain more cards, relics which can give you various effects, some good and some bad. You can find Merchants along the way to buy cards and relics, you can upgrade cards or recover HP at camps, and fight both normal monsters but also rare monsters and each floor has a boss you must defeat to progress. Along the way there are also various events you can do which can give you money, more cards, relics, or other more negative things can happen as well.

It's a really amazing game for Early Access. If you are a fan of games like Magic, Hearthstone, or pretty much any card game I'd highly recommend checking it out. The game has been frequently updated with new patches coming almost every week, I've put more then 20 hours into and never once regretted the purchase. It's early access done right, and in general I think the game is a great example of a good Roguelike as each time you do a new run you can select from randomized bonuses which make each run feel different and unique. The game has a few other modes as well, check it out for 10$ you really won't be disappointed.

Blue Revolver is 50% off.

One of the best indie STG's. Simple but fun combo system, good music, great gameplay, plenty of extras. Black Label is also a thing, but at this point I have no idea when that might actually come out. It'll be a pretty big free update when it does.

Monolith

Do you like Binding of Isaac and want to play something vaguely similar, but fresh enough to feel new and not just a clone? Try Monolith. It's great.

A really neat action game with bits of stealth. It pulls a little bit from Hotline Miami and a little from Gunpoint, but manages to have a strong identity of its own. You play as a grim reaper who hunts down various monsters. The best thing about DEADBOLT is how it manages to introduce new mechanics in almost every single level for the entire length of the game. It just keeps bringing new, interesting scenarios for you to fight (and die) through.

Concrete Jungle is a weird genre-fusion that works really well, and has pretty great production values on top of that. You play buildings onto a board, which will make adjacent regions more or less desirable. Then you play residential districts onto the most desirable spots to gain points and win. There's a sizeable campaign that has both solitaire matches and 1v1s with AIs. Local multiplayer too, if that's your thing.

Is it easy enough to find people to play with? I was considering this, but the player count appears to be an issue.

Like Super Metroid? Like the idea of a Super Metroid that is new and different each time you play? How about ongoing free updates and lots of support for a game? Do you want cookies?
A Robot Named Fight fulfills all these things... well... maybe not the cookies... you have to make them yourself...

... you should make me some cookies too while you are at it for telling you about this game...

... now I am hungry for cookies... thanks assholes

Depends on what you're doing and what time you're playing. Minigolf is always pretty populated and as of right now (I just checked a few minutes ago) every gamemode has a few servers up. Player count has always been rather small anyway, I usually play with friends so I don't experience much issue with it.

Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine is a really fun top-down stealth game with some great class based multiplayer co-op both online and offline. The playerbase is probably pretty dead though, but it's still playable single-player, albeit quite a bit more difficult.

Brilliant twin stick shooter, eye popping visuals, and a fantastic soundtrack that keeps the momentum going. Made by the infamous Housemaruqe

Strongly second this and had came to post it. Bought it for $11 or so a while back and have 23 hours and counting and I don't normally like card games.
Uh... what is going on?

You've quoted me, with the words of someone else. xD

Anyway, moar recommendations

Will always recommend this game. Literally the Dark Souls of FPS.
Cryptic, creepy, slow paced, atmospheric, challenging, lose your shit in death and scramble your way around to get it back.
The last level still gives me chills, fucking A+.

Awesome beat em up, with great music, nice animations, alternate routes with different endings. Also lots of unlockables w/ playable characters. Totally recommend.

Awesome top down run n gun type shooter. It reminded me of Wild guns for the SNES and its pretty cool.

Ruiner is also good. The problem with Ruiner is that it´s a pure single player experience that can be finished in 4 hours.

Synt is a roguelike, so it will last more than that. And I prefer the shooting mechanics in Synt more as well. The game has cool guns and nice perks. I´d go with Synt!

If you like the surreal, games with a unique gameplay style and outlook then this is it. Ice-Pick Lodge nailed everything - strategy/resource management game where your life can save yourself or save a dead world. Cannot recommend this enough, as I do every sale.

These are the two coolest zombie games on Steam, barring State of Decay 1 and Project Zomboid:

Rebuild 3 is a zombie survival 4X/RPG hybrid that attempts to simulate a post-apocalyptic society as much as the survival within it. It's not terribly deep, but still highly replayable and a lot of fun. This one is one of the biggest surprises I've ever stumbled across on Steam.

Ok, now y'know the horrible Saliens tower defense Steam has going on? Emerge is that same pitch, but good; it's essentially a tower defense 4X/action RPG sort of thing. It's rather arcadey, has an immense campaign, and a lot of different ways to play (even if they get kinda samey after a while).

I highly recommend both. You've probably never heard of them before, but y'all should!

dont let early access deceive you honestly, game is stacked with content, 4 huge acts ( last and final act coming later this year) after 4th act theres an endless type mode that gets harder and harder and you can change affixes on map for it etc. difficulty loot and skills was recently all fully updated to where it needed to be and is properly done, supports ultrawide etc aswell, game is made by 1 person.

highly recommend if you love arpg games and puts alot of them to shame honestly.

Coolest games, high seas edition:

Maelstrom is a piratical Battle Royale game. Choose a boat, sail the high seas and sink your foes through sheer strength, or wit, and revel in the loot that is revealed. I love this game, the only problem is the playerbase is tiny. Like, I'd account for 10% of the total playerbase if I was playing right now.

Requires Mount&Blade: Warband, FYI, which is a highly recommendable game on its own. But Viking Conquest feels like a sequel in terms of the new systems and content added to the game. I don't wanna get into a huge list, so I'll say if you've ever wanted a more immersive, reactive, and interesting single-player campaign in Mount&Blade: Warband, Viking Conquest is for you.

Once again, highly recommend both.
Have you played They Are Billions?
No, unfortunately. I want to. I also forgot it existed while typing up that post.
