i wont be playing this because of the mc model (please hold your applause) but im noticing a lot of reviews/comments about her not having 'desires or motivations'. are alloy or jesse from Control or any other third-person action male lead (the dead space guy or vanquish or dark souls or sekiro) really that deep? overcoming your trauma while wearing pasties would be very jarring.

i mostly agree with EntelechyFuff above, they got my thought across better

Well, this is game is now on my wishlist. Can't justify getting it now, because I'm so deep into Unicorn Overlord. Nothing will make me drop that.

Good to see this go above my expectations. The only criticisms I see are towards the plot, so I know that this has succeeded as a great action game.

The obsessive need to inject oversexualisation into the game ends up, unsurprisingly, running to the detriment of good, interesting parts of it. It's not only unnecessary but it serves to cheapen everything by thinking it needs to harvest fruit that's on the ground in order to be appealing.

it's evangelion all over again
I think Evangelion deserves more credit: I know Anno is on the record saying "rule of cool" but you can easily see how these biblical ideas are leveraged thoughtfully throughout the OG series. Obviously the series has nothing to do with a traditional Abrahamic god, but the way these concepts are used in metaphor shows a strong enough understanding to twist the ideas in a fun way--that is still very cool.

That's just my thought on the OG series...dunno how well that continues to be the case with rebuild and so on.

I didn't expect SB to be a sci-fi recitation of Old Testament stories, but I kinda hoped it would do something at least on that level.

High 7s, low 8s is about where I thought it'd land. Curious what players here will think over time because there seemed to be a decent amount of dissonance with Lies of P when it came to the MC averages (which were still good at around an 80) vs. what folks here thought (90+/GOTY). :)

Damn, a pretty nice score. Such a shame at the overt sexualization and just overall boring MC. I've mentioned this a bit, but Tachy had more character than Eve in the 10 minutes from the demo, AND she wasn't as sexualized (from what I remember).

Glad the game turned out well, I'll be picking it up later once I clear up more of my backlog.

Literally everyone shares the same sentiment that the mc should've been Tachy instead of eve

Oh Tachy has a ridiculous body model in the demo intro too. But she definitely has a sense of chemistry and charisma from the start.

Happy to hear that we have a fun new game coming to the PS5, and I'm extra enthused to see a blossoming console game development culture coming out of South Korea. There are some seriously talented devs there.

I do love me some character action games. I'll probably wait a bit though. I have way too much to get through as it is.

Tachy is definitely sexualized but I find her character more "sexy" (or compelling rather) than Eve if that makes any sense. She's just more badass and has a giant sword and has a strong British alto voice actress.

God you're an idiot
About what I expected. It wasn't a complete bedshit like Wanted: Dead, and it's not a genre-defining masterpiece like the gooners were claiming it would be.

I look forward to picking up its eventual PC port.

I personally think it's rated correctly, but over appreaciated by people.

Is this another thread where we all turn a massive blind eye to Shift Up's history of shitty behavior and the overt objectification of the main character?

Edit: oh and there's a Hard R joke? Misogyny and racism? jfc

That's part of the appeal for some though. The blind eye's will be drowned out by the high five bro!

Not surprised with the score based on the demo.
Absolutely gorgeous visual, janky movement and combat, great BGM. so yeah, a decent action game

I'd say every protag you named has explicit, well defined desires/motivations, except for maybe the dark souls protagonists? But I haven't played SB so it's tough to comment on how Eve compares to your average action protag

(Oh I also haven't played vanquish, so no comment there)

Kind of surprised by the lackluster story and writing considering how good Nikke's is. Oh well, save me some money.

Oh yeah, I remember in an early trailer when there's a shot where a helmet visor retracts and you see her face and expression for the first time. I was immediately "Oh wow!" about it.

On the higher end of review scores than I expected! Excited for a well executed character action game.

Now that Korean studios have started breaking into the premium console space with good results, I hope we can see Chinese studios do the same. These two regions both produce pretty unique games I feel are underrepresented outside of the F2P/mobile space.

All of this honestly. The obsessive need to inject oversexualisation into the game ends up, unsurprisingly, running at the detriment of good, interesting parts of the game. It's not only unnecessary, but it cheapens the game by thinking it needs to harvest fruit that's on the floor in order to be appealing.

I love that review - "You can like Stellar Blade's sexualisation without going on a hate campaign against all other types of women in games, and women working in the games space, but then admitting that would make too much sense." Truer words were never written.

I think playing this game, and understanding and identifying that overt sexualization is at its core and fundamental to the game identity is a huge part of it though. Developer's choice, and vision - that's their call. I do wonder what it may have looked like without it, but considering that was a primary focus and it went viral because of it, I don't see how it would be detached from that. I mean if you're in for an action adventure game with a ton of outfits, you've come to the right place. The spirit of Itagaki is alive and well.

That end bit about the hack and slash, or odd dialogue is actually hilariously endearing. It's like let's talk about the fighting mechanics of DOA without mentioning those outfits, such good core mechanics! Or maybe the brilliance of Bayonetta's combat but maybe don't mention the climax punishment poses! I don't think there is any avoidance of it, and I think it does disservice to pretend it wasn't a core pillar of design. Alongside all of its strongest aspects, good and bad.

Yup, it really is a shame

Good Review scores and right where i voted

TBH just wish they had pushed the story more heavily going by general reviews take on it.

All I really need to know is, if a stranger walks in am I gonna feel embarrassed as the game is basically soft core porn. I may be the small minority of male gamers that don't want that but I'm not touching it if that's the case.

You can change her outfit and the game doesn't have any fanservice scenes so you should be fine.

I remember facing that Mantis Beauty in MGS4 and just while the characater was doing her body ondulations and moans, a friend of my sister sat beside me to watch me play. She looked at me after like 2 minutes, woke up and left.

I was "yeah... I would do that too".

So can you skip cutscenes or not? Getting mixed messages. Wasn't planning to watch any of them so I hope you can

You can change her outfit but the jiggle will still exist. Aside from that, I'd also suggest using the Korean VO as the English battle screams are pretty terrible.

What does "no fanservice scenes" mean in a game where the camerawork in cutscenes can be extremely fanservicey (like the shot of Eve emerging from the pod) and where the protagonist's cartoonishly jiggling exaggerated assets are constantly being presented to you?

Like just because the game doesn't have a beach bikini scene or whatever doesn't mean it's not chock-full of fanservice
