Take-Two Expects Almost Half its Sales This Year to Come From Zynga's Mobile Games - IGN

Take-Two has just released its first set of earnings since it fully acquired mobile developer and publisher Zynga, and it looks like mobile is already playing an absolutely massive role in the publisher's future.
Take-Two is expecting Zynga to account for a whopping 45% of its total net bookings for the entire fiscal year ending March of 2023, with 2K making up 37%, Rockstar accounting for 17%, and Private Division making up 1%.
When asked if Take-Two was looking at mobile ports of existing games or spin-offs, he pointed out that Take-Two has historically brought many of its games to tablets and smartphones, but added that "what we're talking about when we talk about bringing Take-Two core intellection property to mobile is a brand new title made for mobile."

Yeah, I can see a lot of games going F2P in the future....With 75% of revenue coming from MTX you literally earn more just by removing the entry price.

RDR2 numbers utterly insane, good for top 10 all time.

Also RDR2: lol dead game

Easily the craziest case of opportunity cost I've ever seen in this industry. GTAO is madness.

Came to reiterate the same thing. It's such a damn shame lol, just throw us a bone 60fps on next gen consoles ffs!

Edit: For someone who doesn't play it, can someone explain the main MTX loop for GTAO? Is it just the in-game money so you can buy more and more ridiculous things?

Yeah. You pay a ridiculously large amount of real money for a ridiculously small amount of in game money to buy dumb shit you don't need.

The main draw of Online are the Heists, where you... are given specific outfits, weapons and vehicles you must use. AKA the shit you'd spend real money on.

No Season Pass either, which is baffling in 2022. Even Red Dead Online had them.

In the end, when you move 170 million copies, even a fraction of a percent of that being whales is going to generate absolute boatloads of revenue.

I forget just how huge Borderlands was. Obviously 3 sold a lot but Borderlands had a huge cultural impact back in the day

75% of revenue from MTX.

Imagine if GTA Online was actually F2P. 10x the players is probably worth the revenue lost from selling individual SKUs.
GTA 6 will probably be a$70 SP only release and they are gonna pull a COD and make GTA Online a separate F2P client.

What 2K produces aside NBA? Does that mean that NBA generates 37% of revenue? Two times more than GTA Online? Sports are crazy profitable.

The two main non sports releases were:

The Quarry
Tiny Tina's Wonderland

In general 2k does things like (other than sports which is definitely a big earner) Civilization, Bioshock, Mafia, Borderlands, Xcom.

45 million is an amazing number, but I wish it was even more than that. RDR2 is a fantastic game and more people should experience it.

So only the PC and next gen versions of Midnight Suns are planned for the first of next fiscal year, but the old gen and Switch versions could be even longer. Something definitely feels up with the development of that game beyond just needing some polish.
