The worldwide Salt and Sacrifice price has seen a significant increase in some countries following its official release on the Epic Game Store (EGS) and PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles. According to Ska Studios, this is because of Sony saw that the prices on the EGS were "much lower than Sony", and they thus forced to match the game's prices on all platforms. This is both good and bad news for different countries, because for places like Brazil have seen a 276% price increase from R$37.99 to R$104.90 . What's weird is that it isn't all bad, with Great Britain's price dropping from £15.99 GBP to £12.99.

[Updated] Salt and Sacrifice Price Changes Happen At Launch

The Salt and Sacrifice price has gone up significantly in some countries, with Brazil seeing nearly a 3x price increase over its original price due to requirements to match prices in all regions on all platforms.

So countries like Brazil are expected to pay the same price? That's terrible. Will the Wolfire guys sue Sony next?

The conversion on those Brazil prices is $7.50 -> $20.75 . Which is brings the price close to the same price as the standard USD price but, doesn't take into account that wages in America and Brazil are vastly different. Which, is the whole point of having regional pricing in the first place.

Price parity rules outside your platform has to be the most anti-consumer and one of the monopolistic things ever, holy shit.

Wait, but how does Sony have control over this? Honest question, I don't get what happened
Must be a condition of some other deal with Sony surely. Games are cheaper on PC than console all the time, this can't be the standard agreement.

EDIT: Yeah, very recent indie example. Soundfall is £24.99 on PS4 and £23.79 on Steam (both when full price without discounts). It's coming soon on Epic though interestingly. And both the same price in the US ($29.99) so it's a regional pricing difference, same as this)

Sony has a dominant console yet again that they literally can't make enough of to satisfy demand and are doing everything in their power to fuck that up with their business decisions. Jim Ryan and whoever runs messaging at Sony need to be fired.

If that's the agreement they made with Sony, then this seems reasonable. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that price parity might be part of a publishing / exclusivity deal.

That isn't to say that I this should always be the case, just if that is the deal the studio made with Sony.

this is forcing change to regional prices on EGS. it's not the same thing
It's the same thing. It's price parity on all regions, but the issue is they can't control individual country prices on PlayStation, so they can't really use EGS regional pricing.

It absolutely has to be part of a deal they signed because other wise itd be text book illegal anti competitive behavior. Sony is shrewd but not stupid.

Doesn't Steam do this also?

Publisher / Developer set their own prices. Valve do show their own recommended prices for the relevant region/currency, but pub/dev can freely override.

Wolfire have a lawsuit on the way aleging that Valve does this via MFN in Steam, which is not the same as this story. A bunch of that case has been thrown out already including their lead argument to seperate Steam store and platform, so it will be interesting to see what evidence they can produce when overwhelmingly it seems prices are set independantly.
