I know Key VNs are mostly cheesy fluff with mostly bland lead heroines who can't do anything for themselves but rely on the protagonist (especially the earlier ones like Air/Clannad), I can't help but love a lot of their work. Clannad made me cry like nothing before or since, & that run they went on from Kanon through Angel Beats/Rewrite was legendary. Hell, even Charlotte/Harmonia/Summer Pockets had some redeeming qualities.
So this is just sad. Oh well. I guess they're going all in on Heaven Burns Red & other mobile projects now.
They're already pivoting towards mobile so the pessimist in me feels like that's that for long-form traditional VNs once whatever current projects they have come out. That said, there is a chance that, with more backing, they could go back to releasing more consistent lengthier experiences again.

The project started in 2016, when Baba (Visual Arts president) asked him to create a work similar to Touken Ranbu or Kancolle, with lots of characters and has battles. Visual Arts needed to do something different as "the era of playing VNs on PC had passed". Maeda played popular games to know what players wanted.
Adult game business was spun off last year.Do Tencent know that Key is not the only brand under Visual Arts and some of them make porn games?
