Synopsis for season 4

After the death of Alfred, the alliances between the kingdoms are fractured. Uhtred believes the timing is right to challenge his uncle Aelfric, played by Joseph Millson (Casino Royale, Banished), and take back his ancestral home, Bebbanburg. However fate shifts in a different direction, leading Uhtred to realise that his destiny is tied to Alfred's dream of a united land. This, and Uhtred's feelings for Aethelflaed, drive him back into the politics that threaten to break out into war."

Not as big as a timeskip as in the novels judging from the trailer. Still, very much looking forward to seeing more of the arseling.

Yay! So glad to have this back.

The fourth season is 10 episodes from everything that I've seen.

Hyped for this. I wish it came out on Friday so I could marathon it through the weekend, but yeah I'm excited for this season. Time for arseling to go take back his home.

Man I'm really hoping Netflix finishes the book series. I haven't read it, but I'd like to see this come to a good end.

FUCK YES! But super-bummed about Swedish Netflix not even streaming the third season, doesn't bode well for the fourth one at all :(

I'd say they can compress the 6 remaining books into 3 seasons worth.
We're at the halfway point of the book series right now, S4 should cover books 7 and 8. There are currently 12 published books in the entire series, a final thirteenth book is due out this year.
I'm assuming you have all read the books. I'm curious your thoughts about the time skips.

I've been wondering how they would handle Uhtred reaching old age. In the books his son is involved in or leads some larger battles. Given the difficulty of doing that on the show without replacing Alexander Dreymon I figured they'd just combine Uhtred and his son for convenience.

That would be the best way to do it without needing to age Dreymon via make-up/CG or casting an older actor.

Man, Uhtred's arc really just is this GIF personified:

Don't get me wrong, show's still wildly entertaining, but it's almost a meme by this point.

In the later books, which I assume will be mirrored in the show, he's pretty comfortable in his place as defender of the kingdom. That's not to say he doesn't have issues or get thrown out on his ass as an enemy from time to time but that happened far more often than you'd think in pre unified Britannia. Lords would regularly leave favor, try to overthrow, then be brought back into the fold. It was constant jockeying

Yeah kinda, but think about it the dream of a united kingdom is as much Alfred as his own, without him and his efforts wessex alone wouldn't even exist, that kingdom is his baby as long as it needs him he will come back to protect it

I mean, I get it; that sense of honor is key to Uhtred's character. I just think it's funny how often they return to that particular well.

I'd rather have it released on Friday so I have the whole weekend to watch it instead of (inevitably) watching all of it on Sunday.

So if I got the times right, this releases in around 3 hours time on Netflix?
Really excited what comes next.

I just got into this show within the past month so suffice it to say I was thrilled to see season 4 was right around the corner. I'm all in on this.

My brain will never be able to cope with the fact that Succession's Tomlette is Uthred's dad, never ever.

Hyped as hell for Season 4, but just like the third one Netflix Sweden seems to have no interest of streaming it here... Fucking abysmal.

Oh damn,
Father Beocca no!! Will be missed so much but at least he's back at Bebbenburg.
Been great thus far. Ed kind of feels weak kind of expected but much more influenced than I anticipated.
The battle was a sight, Aethelflaed is awesome, I was really surprised by Steapa's death though which was brutal.

I watched the last two episodes of season three last night to ready myself. Everything with Alfred in the ninth episode is the purest shining gold.

Glad to hear the early impressions are good.

Destiny is all.
