At least they don't need to switch divisions or do a massive realignment.

Ice lasted longer in the desert than it probably should have. Hope the franchise gets the love and care it deserves now.

‘Utah’s ready for a team,’ new owner says | NHL.com

Discusses name of team, arena renovations before 2024-25 season with NHL.com

Smith said "Utah" will be on the front of the jerseys next season. The team will take its time to determine its name, logos and colors.

"It will 100 percent be 'Utah,' and then it will be 'Utah Something,' obviously," he said. "I don't think given this timeline that we're going to have time -- or nor should we rush with everything else that's going on -- to go force what that is in the next three months."

The Utah Latter-day Saints is right there.

After so many years it finally happened. Hope the organization has success in Utah, and hope the NHL returns to the valley someday with the right conditions.

Nothing in Utah could come close to the jersey they're replacing, the Kachina.

The funnier part was our then CW affiliate broke away from showing CW content to show Yotes games and now lol.

I know they are in the running for DBacks to fill the hole though.

Has anyone besides Meruelo vocalized a desire to own an Arizona NHL franchise?
Ishbia was in the running but that was pre Suns sale. And before Murelo locked them up.

Shocked they're not just stealing another state's aesthetics and name. As a Coyotes fan, I'm shattered. I've never understood people who burn jerseys and merch, but mine is going into the firepit this weekend. Becoming a Kraken fan now. May Utah never experience any happiness with this franchise.

Ryan Smith now owns 3 Utah based sports teams lol

It's like he is collecting Pokemon cards.

The man is preparing for war with the Kroenkes for Mountain West pro sports dominance.

Perhaps more than figuratively, since one would assume the NHL will reward Smith by placing an Avs-Utah Stadium Series game at Rice-Eccles in the near future. Maybe even next year.

Don't burn your jerseys, sell them and buy a Kraken jersey.

Or go two hours north and come cheer for the Canucks. We have Conor Garland!

Nah, not getting rid of mine, it's a good totem.

Rocking the fuck out of the Vegas reverse retro at this point. Also getting that gold alt.

This going to be a Washington Football Team situation then I guess.

Sad for the fans in Arizona but they have deserved far better from the Coyotes ownership group for a long time.

I'm gonna laugh if the team comes back via Ishibia and some others like the portals scene from Endgame and suddenly buy the Tempe dump.

If they don't end up with a bee themed named that's such a letdown, considering the Beehive State, and now the flag literally having a beehive it feels so easy

Much like Thrashers fans, bad ownership screwed them over.
Yup. The Thrashers became a red-headed stepchild to the Hawks once the Atlanta Spirit ownership group took over. That combined with zero playoff wins in over a decade of existence was a bad combination.

People will make jokes about Atlanta getting a 3rd chance at an NHL team, but seeing how much this city has grown over the past decade and seeing how well it's supported Atlanta United, I have little doubt in my mind that they would support an NHL team now, as long as the ownership group is bare minimum competent.

If the arena development gets approved in Arizona this July, they will return. (As expansion)

Stinks ownership sucks ass.

Love how Canada gets screwed over the table non stop esp for a sport like HOCKEY. Toronto should be allowed to get a second team (Leafs shouldn't have final say) same with Quebec. Not a sports fan, just like wrestling it's not my thing anymore but still.

Toronto will get a second team with time, and Quebec is going to struggle due to the lack of corporate sponsors, but it's a hurdle that can be overcome.

I still remember the days where RIM was so close to getting a team and talk was Hamilton/KW or Mississauga. They could have been Apple and now they are dust. Whenever i walk around Waterloo, I still am shocked at all the buildings that they once had and the University that is no more.

the one problem with toronto as a 2nd team is always the *where*

markham? mississauga? vaughan? brampton? hamilton?

Leafs (and raptors, jays) are super super popular because the go trains feed from the entire golden horseshoe meaning it's super easy to go to a game for 25% of Canada's population and almost the entirety of english speaking media is based out of toronto... so the same favourable conditions that exist for the Leafs likely won't exist for a 2nd team.

It's more than just an arena, it's an overall land deal including a casino and shopping.

There's no casino. Maybe a sportsbook, but that's it. Meruelo has a sports betting license but has essentially wasted it so far. The tribes have rights to casino gaming in AZ and it's not tribal land.

You were right, it was a sports book!

"The new arena site would include a majority of the same elements as the proposed Tempe site, which included residences, hotels, restaurants and shops, a sports book and a practice rink adjacent to the arena."

Utah Fury ain't bad given it's a wink at the church.

Using a Gila Monster and going with Venom would be fine.
