If this game is actually balanced to be a challenge, and make choices meaningful, I'll be all over it.

In the original no matter what choice I made with my build I could get past pretty much every check, was flooded with cash and items, combat was ridiculously easy... Loved the rest, hopefully they do those parts better this time.
It all felt a bit toothless overall. I appreciated bits and pieces but there was nothing that really sticks with you. Still cautiously optimistic.

Feels a little to soon for a second one but I enjoyed the first one, so I'm excited for this to come out.

if it had a punchline, if they were going that route they should have did something like showing a board room full of old out of touch white dudes saying "nailed it"

So you just didn't like the joke. Which is fine. I thought it was pretty funny.

Hopefully the Microsoft budget can allow them to better realize the game's potential. The first one was good, but a bit disappointing as well.
The writing wasn't up to snuff from what people associate Obsidian with. They can use a budget well, hell they used Gamebryo to make New Vegas- but that game's strength was the writing and quest quality. Having more bells and whistles won't translate into quality automatically unless they are up their quest design and writing. I think the Outer Worlds DLC showed a little more promise in that regard.

The hooks are there, but like you said, the 'corporations' involved in the first game IIRC only bought that one galaxy.

Which means there are room for more/others to pick up the slack, I suppose.

Yeah, the companions, on the whole, were a bit limited by how tied into they were into the world (aka the corporate ideologies), curious to see how they revise that with either new companions in 2, or if some of the ones from the first tag along again.

(Assuming it's even the same player character, or a different blank slate)

It should be noted that this still takes place in a universe where the trusts were never broken up so you still have galaxy spanning mega corporations. BUt it should be more steampunk/firefly and less idiocracy. They don't own the other colonies they just have a ton of power there.

Least favorite trailer of the show probably, thought it was going to be completely different, then it changed more, and it turned out to be outer worlds 2.

Probably far off, but the final game should be good considering OW1 is solid.

I never played the first one because the people who's opinion I trust indicated the game was a dumbed-down not very good RPG.

But hey, I am open to this being a lot better.

The game's problem is not with budget, it's the writing.

I did have some issues with the writing, to be honest Parvati is the only thing I remember from that game. But a lot of my gripes with the game had to do with the scope as well. It's a game that tried its best to be Fallout in space, but just didn't have the scope to pull that off. So I believe budget can help it as well.

New solar system and new crew is exciting. That gives them a lot of creative freedom.

The Outer Worlds 1 is a game my thoughts have gone back and forth on--there are parts of it I love, and parts that I have issues with--but it's the perfect game to get a sequel to. I want to see how Obsidian builds on the first game.

Trailer was pretty much what I was expecting. If you are going to show nothing and waste my time the least you can do is make light of that fact. It is like they made this trailer specifically for me. I am hoping the bigger budget will be put to good use shutting up those people talking about how terrible the first one was and how Obsidian has clearly lost their magic.

Interested, I like the message/themes and writing of Outer Worlds but I'm not sure if I'm particularly interested in the exploring more if it's rather one note world. I still can't get over how the two main planets use the same premise with surface level difference

I really enjoyed the first game for what it was, but lots of room for some deeper RPG stuff to be added.

Perfect trailer for that kind of situation where a sequel was kind of up in the air after the acquisition and Obsidian being super busy with other projects too. Nice to get that confirmation even if it's 2-3+ years off.

This could have been the Starfield trailer as well.

If the game is better less people will have issue ls with it? Nothing to do with budget though, really.

Strange how that works ..

I have no idea what they can do with this. The Outer Worlds is one of the most disappointing games I've played in a long time. It's Obsidian's bad, unintentional parody of a Bethesda game where they sink to their level of uninteresting characters, clumsy writing, bugs galore and unbalanced and boring itemization. What the hell were they doing with that game? And now it needs a sequel??? I had really hoped they'd kill it off and start on something fresh.

This trailer was also not even remotely funny. "We have a logo - hur dur derp".

Please. Half the complaints were from people bitching that it wasn't the Fallout/Bethesda killer they hyped themselves into believing it was going to be. When everyone, including Obsidian, told them not to expect that because it won't have the budget for that scope. The other half were crying it didn't have the amazing writing of Disco Elysium.

Na. Majority of complaints were about legitimate issues the game had.

It's great you found something to enjoy, but this is a pretty weak attempt to dismiss the legitimate issues people had.

I don't know about, I think out of all my problems with the game, Balance was probably the least lol.
It was the most glaring issue imo. Made it feel pointless to play.

It's like when some says something racist then says "Satire"
I'm... not sure that it's a good idea to compare this trailer, which had nothing politically controversial, to when people are racist and it actually causes harm. This trailer doesn't do that.

I'm sorry, but not enjoying the trailer is one thing and this is another one. Especially insulting to people who are actually hurt by racist shit.

the whole "they're making fun of the thing they're doing so it's hypocritical" angle assumes they like, did it of their own volition and not because their parent company said hey we really need to announce some games at E3, which feels at least somewhat likely. to me it read as making the most of it. they could've just done the thing they were making fun of so why not at least have some fun with it?

See, if you're going to have a CG trailer, this is the way to do it. Have some fun. Hasn't sold me either way, but I was entertained.
