Emet is the best villain in any game so I understand.

G'raha Tia top 10 though is good enough for me.

I think Wakka has a good arc where he's preseted as a likeable underdog sports player, but actually a fundamentalist and racist corrupted by Yevon's indoctrination, and has to overcome it. Still surprised he got on the list.

FF10 is my favourite and just as baffled by Wakka. Only thing I like about Wakka was Super Best Friends roasting him in their playthrough.

Number 1 very unsuprising, Emet Selch always dominated these polls in JPN, but the fact that FFXIV has overtaken FF7 in popularity , atleast with the people who vote within these polls, is very interesting .

Sephiroth's still popular, just not as popular as he used to be. The protagonists generally tend to rate higher than the villains in Japanese polls outside of characters like Leon Magnus from Tales of Destiny who get to be both protagonist AND villain.

Were people troll voting? lol Yuna not making the top 10 feels weird considering how she was in the last big FF poll in 2020. She was 2nd to Cloud.

XIV has an unfair advantage because of the sheer amount of time the game has to build characters andfukly flesh them out.

I also think it has some of the best characters in series history.

Another surprise is the lack of FF4 representation.

Wasn't that game supposed to be a big deal, or did Japan finally acknowledge FF5 and FF6 were better all along?

Maybe but 7R also came out very recently, which should have also renewed interest in FF7.

This poll might be an eye opener for people that a new generation of FF fans is rising.

At least no-one's said "the MMOs don't count" yet lol.

I mean, the fact that VI is in fourth place actually seems to insinuate the opposite: that the FF fandom is more diverse than it seems and isn't just an endless parade of VII fanboys and fangirls OR a bunch of 14-year-olds.

True. I'd love to see what % of new fans have actually played FFVI though. The game's likely older than them.

Emet-Selch won deservedly, personally not a big Wakka fan and am really surprised he placed second.

The top 5 seems pretty in-line with Era's tastes, although the order might be a bit iffy.

Also lol at XII not being in the top 10. Every time I say that it's one of the the FF's with the least amount of mass appeal I get roasted 🤷‍♂️
