They all got killed suddenly. Kinda didn't have a chance to launch an investigation.
They go over it eventually. What they've shown so far is an attack on the wedding and some sinister looking humans laughing.
This is off-topic, but he was written into the series extremely well as a final boss in show that ran for that long. He was always a thing, always around, always doing stuff, always being evil even during the seasonal arcs. Just enough to perpetually be a pain in the ass. Few shows hold a big bad for that long and make it work.
