https://www.sbnation.com/2018/5/11/17332768/dwane-casey-fired-toronto-raptors-coach-of-the-year
Dwayne Casey earned Coach of the Year consideration after guiding the Toronto Raptors to a 59-win campaign and the top seed in the Eastern Conference in the 2018 NBA Playoffs. It took him 82 games to build that reputation — but just four to completely unravel it.

Casey was fired by the Raptors on Friday, three days after his team was swept out of the postseason by the Cleveland Cavaliers. The news marks the end of Casey's seven-year tenure in Toronto. He had gone 323-238 (.576 win pct) with the franchise during the regular season, but just 21-30 (.412) in the playoffs.
Shocked, and not shocked.

Seems like they're blaming him for losing to a Lebron that is clearly in the zone. Might as well fire any coach that goes up against Cleveland in this year's playoff.

This won't solve a thing. The raptors are just going to have to take their lumps until their cap space clears again.

He lost his team at the end, you cant keep a coach whose team doesnt listen to him no matter how good he is or was.

Reminder: He has not won Coach of the Year (yet, at least). He won the coach's poll.

This is going to end up like the Sacramento Kings post Adelman. They will suck and Toronto fans will deserve it.

There's a trend here.

Pistons: 12 straight losses to the Cavs in the postseason, Stan Van Gundy fired last week.
Hawks: 12 straight losses to the Cavs in the postseason, Mike Budenholzer fired 3 weeks ago.
Raptors: 11 straight losses to the Cavs in the postseason, Dwayne Casey fired today.

LeBron is a coach killer confirmed.

George Karl doesn't have to stand on that mantle alone anymore of being COTY and fired at the same time.

terrible decision.

everyone loses to the cavs in the east, that's not his fault lol. Them missing 3-4 close baskets to win Game 1 isn't his fault, Lebron hitting a buzzer beater (could be but gdi) isn't his fault. Demar & Kyle not being the superstar duo they get hyped up to be, isn't his fault.

I mean, he wasn't the problem.

It's hard for basketball players to make shots when they have their hands on their necks the entire time.

Lmao and wow @ him being the scapegoat. There was 1 game where LeBron had better stats than both DeRozan and Lowry COMBINED.

This is so dumb on their part. I'm betting the Bucks scoop him up real quick. The Raps better split up this Derozan/Lowry tandem in the process while getting rid of Ibaka as well or they're going to be even worse next season.

Scapegoat firings won't change this

It's the right move, sadly. The Raptors have consistently been out coached in the playoffs in the past few years. And since they are capped out and committed to their core for the next few years, then this is the only move.

It's similar to Cleveland firing Blatt or Golden State firing Mark Jackson. Jackson and Casey were good at building "winning cultures", but bad at playing the matchup games with shorter rotations in the playoffs.

The series was incredibly one-sided and the team mailed it in for the last two games. I think this was honestly the right thing to do, but finding the right successor will be the tough part.

I don't blame Casey either. He's just another coach that had a GM put together a team of overachievers that were never going to win anything other than regular season accolades. DeRozan and Lowry as your only star tandem isn't winning you shit in the postseason no matter who the coach is.

Meanwhile, Brad Stevens is doing more with less talent than the Raptors have.

It had to happen, even if it wasn't his fault that his team rolled over and died. Ownership couldn't sell this guy to the fan base for next season.

First time COTY has been fired just after receiving the award?
No. George Karl got fired after winning COTY

And people defending Casey are fucking morons who obviously don't watch a lick of basketball. He's a good regular season coach but is a terrible strategist/tactician and is a large part of why we were often embarrassed in the playoffs. A large part of that falls on DeMar and Kyle too, but any Toronto fan will tell you Casey is a shit coach.

Scapegoat for DeRozan and Lowry choking yet again.

Right! I'm not a Casey fan but when your best players are those two going against Bron, wtf is a coach supposed to do?

The main problem been that roster. Meanwhile, Victor O got the spirit of Wakanda and took the Cavs to 7. Raps just had a sorry ass team build to win in the regular season but not the playoffs

Should have just traded DeRozan and Lowry for draft picks and start over, since the Raptors aren't getting anywhere with LeBron in the East, and then the Celtics and Sixers are going to dominate the East after that.

Never forget. (Because, sure sending Aaron fucking Gray out to double Kobe fifty feet from the rim is a good idea)

Don't you feel what you just said is a contradiction? If Brad Stevens can do that then would that not show you the effect a really good coach can have on the team?

The Celtics definitely have more talent, even hurt.

The Brown/Tatum tandem with this Shaker Heights kid? WTF? The Celtics are fucking blessed with talent from the b ball gods

It's not just LeBron, the Raps looked lost at times vs. the Wizards, and the Pacers/Heats series' from two years ago were bad as well. Can't remember if they played well or not against the Bucks last season. The point is, they can't handle lesser teams easily.
