Don't see the problem with this or why anyone is mocking Trump's "law and order candidate" status.

All he did was facilitate illegal campaign contributions. Its a bullshit charge and something that Trump feels that less people should have their lives ruined over. #legalisecampaignfraud

Its not like D'Souza got caught with a spliff, or had a broken tail light or something major like that, which needs the full extent of the law thrown at it.

Chill, people.

The fact that presidents and governors can pardon people is absurd. What's the point of having a court system when one can be pardoned with right connections for anything?

Trying to set the record for most scumbag pardons I see. D'Souza's not even in jail. I love how on his wiki page, the outspoken defense of his actions (given by Alan Dershowitz, of course) is that "everyone commits campaign finance violations."

GOP: We're so corrupt it wouldn't make sense to convict us all.

Trump's basically doing the minor pardons that have no actual consequence so he can try to let his friends know he will pardon them if they protect him, but he won't actually do that

Crazy. Even the CPAC doesn't want anything to do with this asshole. I'll be very surprised if we see any of them speak out against this, though.

You're right, but pardoning can also be used to commute sentences that a president may deem are too harsh for an individual.
Still seems like a waste of a pardon, he's probation is almost over, am sure it's hell having to teach non-english speakers English, 8 hours a week.

All you need to know... edit: oh, beaten by CloudWolf and even before by heavy liquid.
In 2016, D'Souza released a documentary film and book, both entitled Hillary's America, in which he offers his version of the history of the Democratic Party. D'Souza's films have been the subject of considerable controversy, including criticism for espousing conspiracy theories and other unsubstantiated representations of fact

Knew D'Souza's name rung a bell. Really not surprising, unfortunately.

As many have already noted, this is a pure messaging ploy: so long as you kiss the ring, Trump will make sure the law never comes close to touching you. Once again President Don trying his damnedest to be the Mafia Don he always aspired to be.

There needs to be a constitutional amendment stripping the presidency of the pardon power. It was always ripe for abuse, it's just that unwritten political norms generally worked to prevent gross misuses in the past.

If there's one thing the Trump presidency has demonstrated, it's that norms alone won't constrain abuses of power when the president is absolutely shameless.

So much of the government is held up by implicit honor system shaming that doesn't work with people as gleefully abhorrent as the Trump admin and the modern GOP. So much is going to need to be addressed if the country's ever going to even hope to recover from this.

You can't pardon someone who is charged or convicted on the state level though. Pardons only work for federal offenders.
Certain offenses can only be tried at the federal level. This is also assuming Federal investigators will for sure go for state charges where they can.

The running tally:
1. Joe Arpaio, racist sheriff who was convicted of criminal contempt of court for refusing to stop racially profiling latinos
2. Some Navy dude who took photos of classified areas of his submarine and argued for a pardon on Fox because "Hillary got away with mishandling classified info"
3. Scooter Libby, a man who obstructed justice into an investigation of the president/VP for outing a CIA officer, and whose sentence was already commuted, already was reenfranchised, and had even been readmitted to the bar, so the pardon did nothing of meaning.
4. Jack Johnson, a man who was genuinely wrongly convicted and also happened to be dead for 70 years
5. Dinesh D'Souza, a racist, disgusting conservative conspiracy theorist who pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations

Very awesome.

Trump also commuted the sentence of Sholom Rubashkin, a dude who was convicted of bank fraud and had served 8 years of his 27 year sentence. This seems like a relatively normal use of the pardon power. Wonder how that happened.

Make it stop

for the love of god please make it stop

This guy pleaded guilty for fucks sake

Add this to Joe Arpaio as some of the worst pardons ever made by a sitting president

If he's still in office, Trump will certainly try to pardon Manafort and Cohen when the hammer drops. That won't stop the evidence of either's wrongdoing from coming out.

These tweets were in response to Parkland shooting survivors crying after Florida politicians voted down a ban on assault rifles & high-cap magazines (but voted to declare porn a public health risk).

Neither was the dead guy Trump pardoned last week.

This sets a dangerous precedent, Trump gonna pardon all his cronies.

That ship has sailed, but it's hilarious how fucking transparent Dummy Donald is with all this.

Dinesh plead guilty to campaign finance violations, the same crimes Cohen (and him) are potentially facing.

The thing is they're still suffering from legal bills they have to pay.

Hundreds of thousands in some cases millions in legal fees, trashed reputations, family life severely impacted, stress taking years off of life, not knowing if trump will actually come through. He won't before midterms. Even if he does pardon, will he premptively pardon before charges filed? And even if he does pardon, you know the special counsel will appeal pardons granted forfcrimes in furtherance of the pardoner's interests, this racking up a massive amount of appellate expenses. This is all uncharted territory and these chumps are the guinea pigs and whatever happens they are feeling the pain.

Counter point-ollie north, of course who rebounded nicely unfortunately.

Damn, now I can't goad D'Souza on Twitter for not voting in the past 4 elections cycles (because, legally, he couldn't)

Trump continues to dismantle the rule of law. D'Souza was guilty and deserve no pardon.

I'm keeping my opinion of him being a dangerous intellectually dishonest liar out of this, the man is threat to America and its ideals.

Yeah, this is another dangerous knock on the rule of law.

I am honestly livid at this. Dinesh D'Souza is an abhorrent scumbag of the highest (lowest?) order. Fuck everything.

Looks like the meeting with Kim was a big success!

can't think of a more vile pair than Arpaio and D'Souza. Then again Marc Rich was a fucking travesty.

For some reason this is especially depressing to me. Donald just essentially said "I don't care how blatantly illegal what you do is, as long as you're on my side." But we all know if you've ever done anything he perceives as disadvantageous to him, you're automatically a pathetic loser who deserves to suffer and be ridiculed.

I feel broken at this point. Why did the world turn out like this?

In February 2018, D'Souza was widely criticized for a series of tweets which mocked the survivors of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. In response to a photo of survivors reacting to Florida lawmakers voting down a proposed ban on assault weapons in the aftermath of the shooting, D'Souza tweeted "worst news since their parents told them to get summer jobs"

Fuck you, D'Souza
