A Tale of Two Coreys - Lifetime (Jan 6)

Executive produced by Corey Feldman, the Lifetime Original Movie is based on the true story of the rise and fall of 80s' phenomenon, 'The Two Coreys,' actors Corey Feldman and Corey Haim. Feldman and Haim skyrocketed to fame after working together on the blockbuster movie 'The Lost Boys' and quickly became young Hollywood heartthrobs. They collaborated on popular comedies including 'License to Drive' and 'Dream a Little Dream' and basked in being Tinseltown royalty in their early teens. But as their stars rose, their lives began to quickly spin out of control with endless partying and drugs. As their fame and fortune increased, dark secrets haunted them. Young and impressionable, the actors suffered through years of sexual abuse at the hands of industry insiders. With studio offers drying up and their reputations becoming tabloid fodder, Feldman eventually turned his life around by getting sober, getting married and having a son. With the support of Feldman, Haim seemed to be embracing another chance in Hollywood when the two starred in their own reality series 'The Two Coreys'. Tragically, Haim's come back ended abruptly when he died suddenly from what the autopsy reported as natural causes.

5TEM7Gw.jpg

Since its creation by Cards For All People in 2015, Black Card Revoked has set social media on fire and quickly become a fixture at home parties. Although the African American experience is far from monolithic, the game is a lighthearted nod to the shared commonalities of Black life in America. If you know the answer to questions like "How many fights did the Fresh Prince get into before his mom got scared?", your metaphorical 'Black Card' will stay intact ("1 little fight," of course). But if you've never seen 'The Color Purple' or 'Friday', you might get your card snatched! As a witty celebration of African American life, 'Black Card Revoked' will appeal to all lovers of Black culture, bringing together viewers from diverse walks of life for a fun night of laughter and spirited debate. Each 30-minute episode will feature three (3) teams - each with a celebrity and contestant partner - answering questions about universal pop culture and historical moments, viewed through the African American lens. The teams will square off and put their figurative 'Black Cards' on the line for a chance to win up to $10,000.

Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning.

However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Almost a decade later, Pierce's crime-fighting days are long behind him... or so he thought. Paramount Network (Jan 18)

As part of Viacom CEO Bob Bakish's new strategic vision and framework, the male oriented Spike TV will be rebranded as a premium entertainment destination for a gender-balanced audience - Paramount Network.

The pending name change will give Viacom a film studio (Paramount Pictures), TV production company (Paramount TV) and TV network (Paramount Network) sharing the famous moniker, just like former corporate sibling CBS Corp. has the CBS broadcast network, CBS TV Studios and CBS Films. This also will align the channel with the Viacom's Paramount-branded international TV channel (Bakish comes from the company's international TV division).

On January 18, the new channel's programming lineup will kick off with a special one-hour, live episode of 'Lip Sync Battle' from the Paramount lot in Hollywood.

Later, on January 24, Paramount Network will premiere six-part event series 'Waco' starring Michael Shannon, Taylor Kitsch, John Leguizamo and Melissa Benoist. The series is based on the controversial and harrowing true story of the 1993 FBI siege of a religious sect that resulted in the deadly shootout and fire and will launch just ahead of the event's 25th anniversary.

New original scripted series coming to Paramount Network in the first half of 2018 include:

'Yellowstone', a sweeping, cinematic family drama written and directed by Oscar-nominated Hell or High Water and Sicario screenwriter Taylor Sheridan and starring Kevin Costner. 'Yellowstone' follows the Dutton family, led by John Dutton, who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States, under constant attack by those it borders — land developers, an Indian reservation, and America's first National Park. It is an intense study of a violent world far from media scrutiny — where land grabs make developers billions, and politicians are bought and sold by the world's largest oil and lumber corporations. Where drinking water poisoned by fracking wells and unsolved murders are not news: they are a consequence of living in the new frontier. It is the best and worst of America seen through the eyes of a family that represents both.

A single-camera comedy called 'American Woman' from John Wells, creator of the US version of 'Shameless'. Inspired by the real-life upbringing of co-executive producer Kyle Richards (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), this new half-hour series follows Bonnie (Alicia Silverstone) an unconventional mother struggling to raise her two daughters after leaving her husband amid the rise of second-wave feminism in the 1970's. With the help of her two best friends, Kathleen (Mena Suvari) and Diana (Jennifer Bartels), these three women each discover their own brand of independence in a glamorous and ever-changing world reluctant to give it.

And an hourlong pitch-black comedy anthology set in the present day, based on the 1988 cult classic film 'Heathers.' The much-anticipated reboot perfectly blends drama, love, rivalry, and comedy into a modern-day masterpiece.

Morocco: In Times of War - Netflix (Jan 18)

The series is framed in 1921 during the War of the Rif, and narrates the work of the Spanish nurses who decide to change their well-to-do life by helping Spanish soldiers wounded in Morocco during the battle.

Britannia - Sky Atlantic (Jan 18 in UK. USA TBA Jan)

'Britannia' is a drama set in 43AD as the Roman Imperial Army - determined and terrified in equal measure - returns to crush the Celtic heart of Britannia - a mysterious land ruled by warrior women and powerful druids who can channel the powerful forces of the underworld. Or so they say.

BET's Mancave - BET (Jan 18)

From executive producer Steve Harvey and Truly Original, this progressive new talk format assembles a diverse group of black men who will share unadulterated and provocative views about life, love, politics, sex, pop culture and more. The 12-episode weekly half-hour series features the award-winning journalist and series creator Jeff Johnson along with three other outspoken men kicking back and getting transparent about today's hot-button topics. Four guys. Different worlds. Lots of opinions.

Each episode will feature a new celebrity guest who will join the guys as they offer an unfiltered look at what men REALLY talk about within their inner circle of male friends. Covering such topics as entertainment, sex and relationships, politics, current events, sports and much more, this no-holds-barred conversation provides a fresh take on black men's views of what's happening in today's culture. Through humor, genuine emotion and heated debate, the panel will discuss their own opinions and experiences, while revealing what it's really like to navigate the world as an African-American man.

Cocaine Godmother: The Griselda Blanco Story - Lifetime (Jan 20)

Catherine Zeta-Jones stars in this Lifetime Original Movie based on the life of drug lord Griselda Blanco, a pioneer in the Miami-based cocaine trade. At the age of 17, Griselda Blanco, made her way to the U.S. with a fake passport with her first husband Carlos. Living in Queens with her three sons, Griselda became enticed by the money the drug world offered, and quickly became embroiled with local drug runners.

Griselda masterminded the use of beautiful women, the elderly and children as the mules and created false-bottom suitcases to smuggle cocaine from Colombia. With money rolling in, her sons abandoned school and entered the family business instead. A move to Miami would further expand Griselda's empire, and lead to the death of her second husband Alberto, giving the rise to her nickname, The Black Widow. Her willingness to use violence against her Miami competitors, led her rivals to make repeated unsuccessful attempts to kill her. In order to protect her youngest son with third husband Dario, Griselda moved to California where she was later arrested by the DEA and sentenced to a decade in jail. The case against her collapsed and upon her release, she was deported to Colombia, where she was ultimately gunned down in 2012. I'm also assuming Star Wars Rebels and The 100 come back in January but this is not confirmed.

I won't bother listing returning show because that would make the list too long but here are the new shows I'll at least check out.

Grown-ish (I'm a fan of Black-ish so it was a given I'll check this out)
A Tale of Two Coreys
Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams (curious about it but I probably won't watch it right away)
Black Lightning (nice to see a CW cape show not filmed in Vancouver)
Waco
Step Up: High Water (I'd like to check this out but there's no YouTube Red in Canada)

Hmm, not seeing anything in OP's list to push to the top of my queue, which is currently a backlog. I need to watch:

Mr Robot - season 3
Latest season of Orange is the New Black
And I need to finish season 2 of Outlander

If Philip K Dick is on Amazon Prime, I'll check that out too.

Anyone know when The Americans is returning?

Everyone, I have an announcement to make, even though nobody gives a shit: I dropped Walking Dead. Didn't even watch the current season. I just can't anymore. I don't care about a single thing going on in that cheap (visually and narratively) show. I used to read the threads on the Site That Shall Not Be Named, so I'll miss that, but not the show. What a waste of a premise.

Currently watching:

Shameless
Mr. Mercedes
- This show makes me want to take a shower after every episode.
The Girlfriend Experience S2 - This show is bonkers. I'm less impressed with the Erica and Anna episodes (lots of bad, campy dialogue and overlong male gaze sex scenes), but Carmen Ejogo is incredible in her episodes. It's a shame barely anyone watches this as Carmen definitely deserves an Emmy nomination.

Will be watching this month:
The X-Files - Last season was wretched, but I can't not watch this season.
Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams - Maybe, maybe not, I haven't heard great things about it.
Counterpart - I've got to watch JK Simmons in something other than bad comedies.
Wolf Creek S2
ACS: Versace
Hap & Leonard S2

Dynasty: I can't wait for this show to come back, I thought it was going to be a guilty pleasure show/support my friends kind of thing, but I'm genuinely enjoying it. The nods and twists on the original have been fun, and I love the cast. I really hope this show gets to keep going... the full season order was awesome news.
Riverdale: I guess just a guilty pleasure at this point, this season hasn't been as solid as the first, but still entertaining.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: This season has been amazing, I'm so excited.
The Good Place: Like with Dynasty, this break has been difficult, I miss this show's warm pleasantness so much.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: The last three or four episodes of this have reminded me why I enjoy these characters so much.
Fresh Off the Boat: This season has had some bright spots, but mostly just a comfort watch.
Ghost Wars: Another kind of support friends watch. But it's been an interesting ride so far.
Happy!: This show is great so far, I can't wait for more. I JUST finished binging the episodes that are out it went by so fast.
Marvel's Runaways: I wanted to finish The Punisher before getting to this.
Schitt's Creek: This show is so good, undecided if I'll watch as it airs or just wait to binge on Netflix.
Grace & Frankie: Guilty pleasure.
The Simpsons: I just... I can't stop watching this. I know the quality and style isn't the same, but these characters have been with me most of my life and it's both a comfort watch and guilty pleasure.

I also want to catch up on:
Ash vs the Evil Dead
Silicon Valley
Red vs Blue

And finish up The Punisher if I don't do that this weekend.

Just added Counterpart to my watch list when I realized what it was about. This is why I love these threads, it exposes me to stuff I didn't know about and may really enjoy.

I'll be giving Waco and The Alienist a try. Kinda intrigued by Counterpart but don't have Starz.

I suppose I'll suffer through X-Files and hope there's some good in this season.

There's a ton in my backlog I need to catch up on, which I can start getting to since I've finished my grad school courses.

Everyone should watch Happy! Its hilarious and over the top in the very best way. A kinetic rampage across the underbelly of NYC that will leave your stomach hurting from how much you will laugh. Chris Meloni is a run away freight train of fucked up hilarity

Don't really watch much besides sitcoms. I'm looking forward to Fresh off the Boat, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Modern Family starting again. Also One Day at a Time, the first season is still in my mind the best Netflix show they've released.

I wish Counterpart was better than it was... and I wish there was anything good in it other than J.K. Simmons himself that wasn't just wholesale copy pasted from Fringe 5+ years ago.

But maybe it'll get better later in the season.

I'll be watching/trying these new/premiering:

The X-Files: Hopefully better than last season. There were a couple episodes I loved, but it was really inconsistent.
Sneaky Pete: Might watch this. Liked the first season well enough, but I don't watch as much as I used to so maybe not.
The Chi: This looks good. Worth a try.
Electric Dreams: I currently have Prime and enjoy his short stories, so will give this a try. Could be cool.
Britannia: Like these sorts of period pieces, so I'll give it a shot.
Counterpart: Loved the first episode. Can't wait to watch this one!

Plus continuing these:

The Good Place: Best show on TV! Can't wait for more of this!
Jane the Virgin
Life in Pieces

(Behind on these next three somewhere in their current seasons, but will watch when I catch up.)
Modern Family
This is Us
Riverdale

Great job with the thread Ratsky. I said this before, but I think monthly threads are the way to go.

Waco, for my boy Taylor Kitsch.

Also, one scene of one episode of Devilman Crybaby. I voiced two characters/two lines despite zero dubbing experience. It will be terrible, but I want to hear it.
