The problem with that is SCOTUS can still destroy that too. If we ever get a new Voting Rights Act passed, it probably wouldn't be long before it headed to the Court.

Luckily HR1 is designed for that with severability.

Nothing stops them from gutting several provisions and effectively destroying the whole thing.

I don't have much optimism on this issue but I'd love to be wrong.

I think section 2's only chance is if Gorush and Robert's team up to side with the three remaining liberals. Gorush has sided with Native American rights in the past. Arizona's law is laser targeted at crippling the Native American voter turn out.

Roberts is the most "moderate" of the conservative appointees to the bench, and he gleefully tore up the VRA. Not a lot of suspense on how they rule on this.
