I always assumed he was nominated by Clinton because he got confirmed under him...thanks for the clarification. But yeah, dems going to bat for him has to be the biggest dick selfshooting in political history.
No he wasn't. He was confirmed on October 15, 1991. At that time, Clinton was a small state B-tier presidential nomination candidate. There's no way Clinton would have kept a R nomination moving forward once he got in to office.

Trump is a man who couldn't even open a casino in the late 80s in Australia due to his connections to crime
www.theguardian.com

Trump's bid for Sydney casino 30 years ago rejected due to 'mafia connections’

Cabinet documents reveal police warned NSW government about approving a 1986-87 plan to build city’s first casino in Darling Harbour

He's been able to skate by because he's rich and has a lot of friends - our system was created to keep people like him wealthy and up top no matter the long trail of crime and broken lives they leave behind.

Hopefully with a lot more press and outrage, now that Trump defecated on the country at large, that some of his crime can be brought to better light. Even if the statute of limitations has expired for some, I hope the public can at least learn more about his decades long grifts and how he was protected by banks and politicians and other wealthy assholes.

And not just him but his entire family, including his corrupt sister who had to retire from being a judge not long ago to avoid tax fraud investigations. AGs should shine a light on all that trash, and essentially blackpill the public against the corrupt elite and wealthy and how they've always lived by different rules.
All the banks have dropped him so that's no longer a protection and he doesn't have a sea of lawyers anymore either. His defense levels are super week

I have a feeling the only thing Cy Vance needs to tie it all together are these returns.

The Yugest Evidence Win Ever? Manhattan DA Finally Obtains 'Million of Pages' of Trump Documents, Tax Filings

Just days after the Supreme Court of the United States finally did something—anything—to respond to Donald Trump's last-ditch effort to keep his financial records away from New York state prosecutors, CNN is reporting that the Manhattan District Attorney's Office has already obtained "millions of pages" of Trump records, including his long-hidden tax returns.

Danny Frost, Senior Advisor and Director of Communications for Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance, confirmed to Law&Crime that the DA's office obtained the records on Monday.
The Manhattan DA recently escalated his criminal probe with the hire of outside counsel Mark Pomerantz, a former federal prosecutor known for his expertise in untangling complex financial dealings and white-collar crimes. Pomerantz has already interviewed former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, and now he apparently has millions of documents to read and examine.

Catching up to some of the convo from page 5, Clarence Thomas was not appointed by Democrats, he was appointed by George HW Bush, and confirmed by a Democratic senate. The thing is, prior to the last 10 years, it was basically unheard of that a president wouldn't get the person he nominated confirmed. Democrats had rejected Robert Bork in the 80s, and it was a protracted political battle that hurt them in them politically, but was probably good for the courts given that Anthony Kennedy is less conservative than Robert Bork was. Since Bork, it wouldn't be until ~2005 that Bush's would-be nominee Harriet Miers wouldn't even get out of committee (she was thought of as too moderate for Republicans)

Democrats were weary of having another Bork situation politically with Thomas, and some Democrats were also concerned that if they opposed the Thomas nomination -- even after the ANita Hill testimony -- that it'd be portrayed for racist reasons. Mind you this is at a time when the South wasn't as solidly Republican, there was still Democratic split locally and in congressional races.

Thomas is undoubtedly the worst Supreme Court justice in 100 years, you really have to go back to the purely political appointments in the 19th century to find worse justices.

Even still, Thomas' confirmation was narrow -- 4 votes. 46 Democrats voted against him in an era when SCOTUS nominees got almost unanimous support. Scalia was 98-0 Yea, Kennedy was 97-0 Yea, Souter 90-0, Ginsburgh 96-3... And Sandwiched in between was Thomas 52-48. And the Democrats who voted Yea on Thomas, 11 of them, were nearly all from conservative states with large black populations. This was an era when states like Lousiana and Alabama still elected Democrats.

Wasn't the other Ginsburg also after Bork?

It's threads like these that remind me that only less than two months ago we all lived in fear of what Trump would do next. It's been such a relief these past what, 7 weeks? He was banned after the insurrection? Can't believe that's been almost 2 months ago.

Just once, just this once I want something to actually stick to Teflon Don. Just this once.

Wasn't the other Ginsburg also after Bork?

Douglas Ginsburg was never actually nominated, so he never reached hearings, judicial subcommittee, the senate, etc. Reagan announced he would be nominating Ginsburg, and then allegations of marijuana use (!!!) and financial misdealings surfaced and he withdrew himself from consideration, and then ANthony Kennedy was nominated and he cruised through.

He lost the election, don't forget that. Also he had a big defeat in court over his charity.

You're correct that his nomination was never officially submitted to the Senate, but Reagan's announcement was styled as a nomination. Which is fine if that's your standard, but I love (/s) how wrapped up the 80's were in "Just Say No to Drugs" pearl clutching.

So is the Manhattan DA and the states attorney general working on the same case? For some reason I thought Leticia James was working on a separate case.

Trump's sunk. LOL.

She is. She's conducting a separate investigation into the Trump Organization's business and real estate activities.

Non-Paywall version.
