I see Fox News is already supporting the woman challenging AOC for her seat. "See? We are running an immigrant minority! We aren't racist at all! We swear!"

Interesting to see Republicans "party of law and order" defending Trump's "go back to where you came from". The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission cites that phrase as workplace harassment... and it's against the law.

  • Ethnic slurs and other verbal or physical conduct because of nationality are illegal if they are severe or pervasive and create an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment, interfere with work performance, or negatively affect job opportunities. Examples of potentially unlawful conduct include insults, taunting, or ethnic epithets, such as making fun of a person's foreign accent or comments like, "Go back to where you came from, " whether made by supervisors or by co-workers.
Law and order was just another racist dogwhistle.

Alex Moe @AlexNBCNews

And @RepAlGreen says today is the day the House takes the opportunity to punish the president after finding him guilty yesterday with resolution vote https://twitter.com/alexnbcnews/status/1151489885037039617 …
Rep Al Green says the House will vote between 4:30-5pm today on his articles of impeachment. A Dem leadership aide also confirms this is the case. Still unclear what form this vote will be - to table (kill), send to Judiciary Cmte, or proceed with moving ahead

9:56 AM - Jul 17, 2019

Manu Raju @mkraju

Rep. Al Green told me he expects a vote on floor today on his impeachment resolution, and he demanded the House take a "forceful" step and show "courage" to impeach the president. He said he has NOT spoken to Pelosi or the leadership yet on the topic.

"We should not hold off"

Green called Trump a "racist" and a "bigot" who should be "punished" and that the House needs to send a "powerful message that this country" will "not tolerate" racism and bigotry. "His tweets can incite people to do harm."

But Dems are split on how to proceed, with Hakeem Jeffries saying they need to stay focused on their agenda and Mueller hearing. Rep. Val Demings saying she would definitely vote for Green resolution and Rep. Jayapal uncertain if now is the time to move forward before Mueller

9:48 AM - Jul 17, 2019

Manu Raju @mkraju

Rep. Veronica Escobar, a supporter of an impeachment inquiry, said now is "not the wisest time" to vote on articles of impeachment, saying they should wait for Mueller

The far more interesting thing is a plurality, 45%, of Republicans agreed it was racist, but only 25< said it was UnAmerican.

It shows a significant chunk of the party will openly admit they think blatant racism is American values.

I mean...

The country was literally built on racism.

Racism is a feature, not a bug.

Going through with an impeachment vote without an inquiry seems like a really pants on head stupid idea and I refuse to believe it's anything but a publicity stunt on his part because of that.

AOC is going to win 80% of her district any time she runs. She would be safe in that seat even if she was a total nobody. As one of the most famous politicians in the country she's guaranteed to win.

Is Green wrong for what he's doing? I mean, the attempt to impeach should have been done within 48 hours of the Mueller report. I have no idea on earth what "extra damning" thing they'd be expect from an organism that breathes corruption in every breath. He seems to be trying to kick things in that direction, though probably in the most convoluted way to do so.

Jeff Stein @JStein_WaPo

Mick Mulvaney, speaking at Heritage Foundation event, jokes that he's been saying: "OMB -- now under the management of the Heritage Foundation"

Mulvaney also said Trump's first reaction when discussing Obamacare repeal was: "Why don't we let the states just take care of this?"

Mulvaney says Republicans also "won the first battle" over Obamacare, citing that Dem presidential candidates are all calling for big changes to legislation

10:20 AM - Jul 17, 2019

Jeff Stein @JStein_WaPo

Mulvaney says he has 3 children: one a conservative; one indifferent; and 1 he described (!) as a "hardcore lefty"

Heritage moderator responds: "You just described my family"

Can't he just make it a vote to start an inquiry? Or wait 1 week?

I mean I want this to pass now too but it probably won't.

yeah i agree, i think they should be more forceful with the inqury and stop dragging their feet and get it all out in public for congress to decide after having the report in their hands.

I find the "he made them the faces of the party"4D chess take especially obnoxious because the media and GOP were gonna do that with AOC the entire 2020 race whether this happened or not.

Greenville is a very rednecky part of NC. Outside of the college kids (ECU my alma mater), it's just a bunch of rednecks.

It's one of the only places he could get a decent turnout in NC I think. Everywhere else is too liberal or small.

Ruhle is easily one of the worst hosts on MSNBC. She's always doing shit like that. Framing questions where she acknowledges that Trump does something wrong but still says he "won."

I stopped watching the 9am hour because of her despite being a fan of Ali Velshi.

Impeachment is mainly a PR push at this point since McConnell will quash it in the senate trial. Democrats need to be behind a unified message to make any public gain from the media whirlwind impeachment would be. So far it appears they don't agree on a central message so forcing it now could be potentially damaging in the long run.

WaPo: Inside the Women for Trump kickoff, where the president appears to have no problems with female voters
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. — The women were courted. They were told, repeatedly and at almost every opportunity, that they were beautiful, strong, intelligent and important.
To the Trump campaign, they are very important.
-------------------------
Supporters dismissed a recent sexual assault allegation by a columnist, charges of racism after the president's tweets targeting four female congresswomen of color, and the polls, one of which shows women backing five of Trump's potential challengers by strong margins .
-------------------------
The gathering featured daughter-in-law Lara Trump, who is married to Eric Trump, and bae-in-law Kimberly Guilfoyle, who dates Donald Trump Jr.
Lara Trump, a Fox stalwart, anchors campaign videos designed to look like news briefs. Guilfoyle, a former fifth of Fox's "Five" and first lady of San Francisco (when she was married to Democrat Gavin Newsom), came out with pistols blazing, playing fire to Lara Trump's nice.
-------------------------
"Everyone is out to get him. They sure haven't made it easy for him or anyone in our family," she said. "It was not easy for him to give up his life. He gets bashed every single day." She shared that in her home of Manhattan — booed by the crowd — people surreptitiously tell her, sometimes in near whisper, that they support the president.
The rally was a gathering of Trump campaign all-stars. They were familiar to his voters, almost all of them female. Pastor Paula White gave the invocation. Former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi stood in front greeting fans, smartphone cameras and the rows of VIPs.
A panel discussion featured Lara Trump, campaign spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany, tea party activist Katrina Pierson, former White House director of strategic communications Mercedes Schlapp and, the lone male dignitary, Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale.
Also in the house, Diamond and Silk.
-------------------------
An impassioned Guilfoyle charged that Democrats suffer from "Trump Derangement Syndrome" with "irrational emotional outbursts and complete mental breakdowns."
By contrast, "we have a glow to our skins by being positive," Guilfoyle said. "Their party is angry and bitter." Republican women will win, she said, "because nothing melts a snowflake faster than a strong woman who clings to her Bible and guns."
Other themes of the event: Socialists are coming for our country and the mainstream media gets everything wrong.
"If you ask me, it's the Democrats that are having trouble with women," Guilfoyle said of recent disagreements between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and four freshman congresswomen. "Oh boy, you've got a few of them getting a little unruly and giving Mama Pelosi a hard time," she added, labeling them "The New Housewives of D.C."
The crowd was assured repeatedly that the president and his policies support women.
"Donald Trump doesn't see color. He doesn't see race. He doesn't see gender," Pierson told the crowd. "He just sees people that he loves." To which a woman in the back, who gave her name only as Linda, rose and yelled, "Gays for Trump."
"He's a strong man. I think he's sometimes misinterpreted," said Margie Jardine before the speeches. The Downingtown, Pa., teacher was sporting not one but two Trump T-shirts, one that read "adorable deplorable." She likes Trump because "he's very passionate. He's very aggressive. A lot of women don't like that aggression."
The gathering was rich with Ivanka-Bes, many working for the campaign, ectomorphs with sumptuous long tresses, in tight shift dresses and vertiginous heels.
"The other politicians are pandering to women. He's pandering to no one," said Erin Elmore, a lawyer from Philadelphia and former "The Apprentice" contestant, wearing red, white and blue pumps and carrying a "conservative clutch" she made that read "Make America Great Again." Being a Trump supporter in very Democratic Philadelphia is "horrible. I have to be very careful."
Nancy Fields of Lake Harmony, Pa., admires the president's style. "Other candidates walk on eggshells. They don't want to ruffle people's feathers. I love that he's bombastic and to the point," she said. "I could do with a little less unnecessary chaos. I think that's what turns a lot of people off.

I can't help but note that the poster woman in that picture is the most plastic-surgery looking face I've ever seen.

Thread on how that CNN panel of women who don't think trump is racist are far from a group of average women plucked off the street. Why on earth do they do this?

One of them literally runs a group called "Trumpettes of America".
