There was this quote I think I saw it on the internet that republicans are envious of the cultural power that democrats have in society and would trade political capital they have in the courts for even half the power that democrats have in like hollywood and all that

I think about that quote alot because the culture wars they keep pushing are so against what everyone wants, the way they keep doing this to distract from their lack of agenda says alot about the alt right and the traditional right wing. It says alot to how much their way of life is dying and how religion is fast becoming a thing of the past for most people.

It does seem all the low-level 1/6 arrests the DoJ pursued has had a successful affect of chilling MAGA rioters from just reflexively joining a high profile Trump protest/riot. Every single post 1/6 Trump protest has been a wet noodle. They really do feel the FBI is embedded within them.

I think once a Republican is back in the presidency, we'll see how this deterrence will hold up because perhaps the MAGA heads will think pardons will be back on the table. But at least for now, the low-level arrests have actually been effective in deflating Trump protests.

Now we just need for a higher up and/or lawyers to face serious charges to create a deterrence for the people near the top.

bruh it is way too early to say this, at least until he's formally charged (for multiple) and on trial and still running for POTUS. that will be a true test imo, not even going up to a conviction. the degenerates have no bottom. edit: but of course i hope you're right. scattering like roaches is a great outcome.

He lucked the fuck out last year going up against the single worst Dem candidate, and given the other stinkers in 2022 that is REALLY saying something.

Nah, Fried would've lost by even more. But despite being milquetoast, even Crist actually got shots in on DeSantis that might've mattered if the median voter weren't a combo of boomer 50-year olds who moved to Florida so they could have the freedom to go to Applebee's after working as a contractor all day and socially and economically liberal Hispanic's who think all Democrat's are socialist devils because of Spanish-language radio.

1/6 had almost a month buildup with support from various tentacles of the Republican party. This "indictment protest" is just something Trump screamed about last weekend with most of the GOP pretty tepid about and mostly discouraging it. I don't think much will happen, especially against the biggest police force in the country. Most will stay home.

Or, to put it another way, the Republican machine has not yet finished changing gears and so if the arrest happens in the next few days the response is likely to be tepid.

If it takes a couple of weeks or months, though, they'll have an opportunity to get on the same page, and that's where things get dangerous. I'd expect the trial to be a shit show.

I don't really rare the "look, even other Republicans aren't on board," stuff at this point. They're never on board at first. But eventually, somebody does the electoral math and everyone gets their marching orders and we're right back where we started

I'm 100% going to refer to Desantis as Meatball Ron, Pedo Ron, Little D, etc over Thanksgiving this fall. My brother and his wife are crazy right-wingers in Florida. They love(d?) Trump and also adore Desantis. I only speak to him briefly a couple times a year so I've not gauged where he sits on all this.

So, because they're little bitches, the GOP are opening their own investigation, not into Trump, but into Manhattan DA Bragg and want to question him.

House GOP demands testimony and documents from New York prosecutor investigating Trump
As a possible indictment looms over former President Donald Trump, House Republicans are coming to his defense and arguing that Alvin Bragg — the New York prosecutor investigating alleged hush money paid by Trump to adult film actress Stormy Daniels — is politically motivated and his probe won't stand up in court.

House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, House Oversight Committee Chair Jim Comer, R-Ky., and House Administration Committee Chair Bryan Steil, R-Wis., kicked off their own probe on Monday, sending Bragg a letter demanding documents, communications and testimony related to his investigation of the former president.

Bragg has until Thursday to respond to requests to set up a hearing, according to reports.

Because this involves an ongoing investigation and an upcoming trial, I have strong doubts that Bragg will ever respond.

But this is in alignment with the overall GOP strategy to keep up appearances and back Trump no matter what strictly because they fear their current voter base.

And as usual, trump's a little bitch and the idiot media just falls on his every word...

Not only does this sound like an "I shit myself on purpose" retcon, even if we accept this as true then the plan was a laughable failure. There are obviously no mass protests going on. And at no point was private info leaked by Trump or even appeared to be leaked by him since it was widely reported that he had no special information and was basing his prediction on existing reporting. And that the Tuesday date was invented by him.

My guess is Trump goes for "Small D santis" for Desantis's nickname.

Honestly I can't say I'm thrilled that the first Trump indictment is going to be for what appears to be one of the weaker legal cases against him.

My hope was that the Fulton County indictment was going to be the first to drop.

Two weeks out from the Wisconsin supreme court race. Can't stress how much I hope we can pull off a win there.

Kicked a few bucks towards Protasiewicz today.

This was the earliest investigation/case.

The Georgia investigation is moving remarkably fast even thanks to the state's specific "special grand jury" rules.

Same.

Not only is it a relatively weak case, it's basically a process crime before he was President. I mean I'll take whatever gets him arrested. But this is definitely easiest case to hand-wave away among Trump's legal exposure.

That said, having the entire GOP apparatus defend hush money payments to a porn star is never a good thing for a party. The more the GOP is out there vocally defending Trump for abhorrent behavior, the better it is for Dems to keep the majority of moderates/independents in their corner.

I do hope the Fulton County indictment is right around the corner though. That's the most consequential because it goes directly to the Big Lie and represents everything that was bad about Trump during his presidency.

I hope american politicians are keepin an eye out on what's happening to macron because european neoliberalism is quickly falling by the wayside with many in france not totally liking what's he's doing

And don't forget the documents case. Of all the cases, I think that is the easiest to prove ( for the charge of obstruction). Doubly so if they get Trump's lawyer to testify against him
