I don't know if this should go here or on resetera :/

I have these friends that I invite over to my house from time to time but all they ever do is just play my games.

I love video games. I have over 1000 games, I have a switch, Xbox, vita, gaming PC, 3ds you name it and with tons of games on those consoles. The thing is I'm not addict. I enjoy socialising with friends, going to the gym, fitness, going out and just living life. Video games aren't my personality. I don't even talk about them with anyone except this forum really.

I feel like vidoe games disconnect me from some of my friends. I hate inviting my friends over to my house because all they would want to do is play my games for hours and hours straight and we barely get to talk about anything. I find that most of the time when my friends come over I just head up into my room and study or something. It's not very fun sitting In one locations just watching people play a game for hours straight with ZERO communication. It's just lame imo and I feel like video games have destroyed all my friendships right now. Whenever I talk to them now it's just about GTA or some shit.

Don't base your friendships off of that one mutual hobby.

Also try "Man I don't even wanna game I wanna talk about shit dude". A real friend will step up. Any other friend is fair weather as shit.

if you invite people over to your house and they play games while you go into another room and study then you should probably reconsider your life choices

i dont think ive done that to someone since i was 12 and even then i felt guilty

You don't even talk.... about the video game at least?
Nope. Nobody talks. It's just total silence. Everyone starting at the screen. I say something but nobody replies. It's like they all turn into someone else when they play. Someone only talks when they do something really cool in GTA.

This is actually a lot more common than you would think. There's quite a few people's out there that have a hard time communicating about real life topics so they just stick to games.

I was expecting the relationship equivalent of "Bloodborne/Dark Souls/Whatever is ruining (other games) for me" :v

I don't understand this dynamic at all that the OP is describing. Everyone just files in, sits on the sofa, ONE GUY plays a single player game and you all just silently watch? And any convo is dismissed? Does the one player have headphones on? That'd make it even more hilarious.

Just fucking tell them you're not having people over anymore if it bothers you so much. You're getting used by these people. $60,000 in videogames and "I'm not even an addict"...christ.

The first rule of Video Games is: You do not talk about Video Games. The second rule of Video Games is: You do not talk about Video Games.

I had a friend in grade school who would invite us over and get mad when we played his video games.

His motives were suspect, though. He really wanted us to play the game he had mastered and could beat us easily. Playing a co-op game or one where we ended up beating him and out came the anger.

Well I'm not an addict. I play for about 3hrs each day approx? Having lots of games doesn't make you addict I think

These do not sound like amazing friends if you're all simply staring blankly at a TV screen together without any communication.

Games are not your problem, your "friends" are just being "friends" because you have something they want access to.

It never happened to me but seen it a lot.

As a kid it happened to whoever had the most games or comics, as a teen it was the kid with a car or a pool, as an adult it's the guy with good connections that can help you get something, whether it be a job, best seats at a restaurant, or deals on adult necessities.

And I said games for kid but it can be any age that's just when I saw that not casting aspersions.

Point being is games are not the problem it just happens to be the material goods your actual problem is interested in, or in other words, they are not your friends, they are just using you for your shit and you should be kicking their fake friend using asses to the curb and find people that want to be around you not your stuff and make friends with them instead.

The fuck? They don't talk and play video games at the same time? It's like the easiest activity to talk around lol.

Your friends are aliens who have somehow come to the idea that the best way to learn about humans is playing video games. They don't talk very much because they only have a set number of phrases they have been taught. Contact your local men in black.

Invite them over and tell them your power isn't working your gaming room once they get there. I want to know what happens....

This sounds like something elementary kids would do. I was one of your friends when I only had a sega genesis. My best friend had genesis, snes, sega CD, power glove, super scope and even a game gear. He got n64, Dreamcast and ps1 like the first day they came out. Loved going over to his house. Lol.

My friends were kind of like this when we were teens, but they grew out of it.

They probably find comfort in being around other people that approve of the activity.

When I was 12 all 2 of my friends wanted to do at my house was playing the Simpsons hitn' run demo, so I burned it and things return to normal.
Burn your games op
