Link.

Jennifer Psaki, a veteran Democratic spokeswoman, will be Joe Biden's White House press secretary, one of seven women who will fill the upper ranks of his administration's communications staff. It is the first time that all of the top aides tasked with speaking on behalf of an administration and shaping its message will be female.

Biden's press team will be led by Kate Bedingfield, a longtime Biden aide who served as his campaign communications director and will hold the same title in his White House.

Biden will also break several barriers on key economic policy positions including the nomination of Neera Tanden as director of the influential Office of Management and Budget. Tanden, the chief executive of the left-leaning Center for American Progress, would be the first woman of color to oversee OMB.

Biden also is expected to appoint Princeton University labor economist Cecilia Rouse as chair of the three-member Council of Economic Advisers, with economists Jared Bernstein and Heather Boushey serving as the other members. Rouse would be the first woman of color to chair the council.

I expected Sanders for Dir. of Communications.

"The odds are very high that if it's a story about the Biden administration, any aspect of it, at least one quote in the story will be from a woman," said Anita Dunn, a top Biden campaign aide.

Well the high from watching Trump lose is wearing off. Neera Tanden is a fucking clown who should have no power anywhere.

Thanks Biden for reminding me why I disliked you so much in the first place

I have no issue with the comms or the cea picks nessecarily but describing Neera Tanden and CAP as left leaning in the year 2020 is a strech. I guess she has political experience but director of the OMB?

I was trying to remember where I'd heard Neera Tanden before. She's like, one of those weirdos constantly trashing Sanders supporters, isn't she?

Tanden is perfectly tailored to really piss the left off, but is at least better than getting a committed deficit hawk in the position, which was my biggest fear of the transition.

Tanden gives me pause.

As for the rest, I need to look at their policies before commenting on them.

Also this quote

"The odds are very high that if it's a story about the Biden administration, any aspect of it, at least one quote in the story will be from a woman," said Anita Dunn, a top Biden campaign aide.

isn't as good as the quoter thinks it is.

CAP is roughly in line with where Warren Democrats are and Tanden is a lifelong Democratic policy wonk getting a policy job in a Democratic administration. She's also a big proponent of big tent politics just like Biden is, but has a good grasp (based on decades of work) on what that tent actually looks like-and how to constructively include people in it.

She's like, one of those weirdos constantly trashing Sanders supporters, isn't she?

Tanden doesn't "constantly trash" Bernie supporters, most of this goes back to Matt Bruenig:

This is the healthcare plan Tanden sponsors:
www.americanprogress.org

Medicare Extra for All

This proposal guarantees the right of all Americans to enroll in the same high-quality plan modeled after the Medicare program.
It aligns with how Biden talked about healthcare during his campaign, so I guess it makes for a match in the administration.

Second thread has a collection of rare Neeras so have at it.

You're quoting a toxic woman who also spends all her time beefing with people on Twitter. BrieBrie literally decided to attack John Lewis after he posted a tweet playing with cats.

Some of you all forget that many of Biden's choices have to make it past the senate. He can't choose ultra progressives or else none of his picks will be confirmed, much less brought to vote. Without 50 seats, he has to be able to peel off some Republican support and have some concessions with McConnell on who he picks.

Is that all? Some of the responses makes it sound like she killed everyone's dog or something.
She supports another approach for universal healthcare coverage. Which I guess is bad and all even though the president-elect also supports a different plan from Medicare For All.

But like, maybe an anti-left politician is a bad thing to put in your cabinet tho lol

I mean, yeah, but half of that fight was lost when Sanders lost, and the other half was lost when the GOP (probably) held the Senate. Nothing remotely left-wing is happening for two years, minimum. And only a miraculous midterm will save it from being longer than that.

OMB is pretty much the most powerful economic office in the White House, and the biggest factor in that job is going to be the person's attitude toward the deficit. Dodging someone who has worked on any one of the various "let's cut social security to pay down the debt" projects of the past thirty years is as big a win as you're going to get at this point in the game.

Lord I hope she gets bounced with the quickness.
I don't know -- to be honest, looks like Tanden has experience drafting legislation, including the ACA, and negotiating with Congressional committees and Executive branch agencies, which is exactly what's needed in an OMB Director.

I don't care whether the OMB Director historically annoyed Sanders supporters, but she looks a little lean on the technocratic skills I'd want. (Well within the margin of necessary experience, but not overwhelmingly so.) That's just from Wikipedia, though. I haven't really heard much about her.

But that's because I basically believe the OMB Director is one of those jobs (and agencies--it's a small one) that should have a workmanlike director that no one's heard of.

I'm quoting sources so we can have a citation trail. Does the past change because BrieBrie catalogued it?

I thought the way we did things here was cite sources and evidence, instead of ranking ideological purity. I could do that too if you'd prefer.

What I'm getting from this confrontation is that citing BrieBrie is not allowed because of her association with Sanders, fine. I'll look for other sources.
