Like... that can't be good. It sounds like she's having a harder time doing the voice that she used to.

If by newer you mean episodes from 15 years ago, then yes. Julie Kavner can barely get the lines out, it's been that way for a long time.

Julie Kavner is 70 years old. It's no shock that it's reflecting in her voice.

Also, before anyone complains, that video is artificially zooming in to random spots to avoid YouTube copyright complaints.

Julie is 70, of course she sounds stained.

Doing the same fake voice for 30 years takes a toll.

Your voice naturally deepens as you age, so having to match a voice from 30 years ago must be rough.

Amazingly enough I watched this very episode today, first new ep in over 8 years, and Marge's voice sounds painful.

All the other voices haven't changed at all.

I remember how she sounded on the DVD Commentaries... people thought she was a smoker.
Nope, just age, go watch Rhonda and she's in it and young too, she was I think she was 30 when she first did the Ullman shorts.

Tom Gammill who's a writer who's also on commentaries also sounded like he was 70 when he was in his mid 40s.

Voices are weird.

I guess it's only jarring because the characters don't age. Still I don't think it's that big a deal. Marge has always sounded pretty husky anyway.
